DISCLAIMER: Just because we posted an oil free recipe doesn't mean we are forcing anyone to eat exclusively oil free. Oil is a refined food with high calorie density so we made this recipe for someone trying to reduce their calorie intake. By switching out even one of your meals with an oil free recipe you are reducing your avoidable calories which in turn will help you lose weight, if that's something you're trying to do, or leave you with extra calories on your daily calorie intake to replace with wholefoods. We also don't intend to promote anything to cause eating disorders or the like, we are just aware that there are people in the world that are looking to control their weight in a healthy manner and we want to help with that by making healthy food as accessible as possible with quick easy recipes. This also may take you longer than 5 minutes the first time around but in time I'm sure you'll get quick and learn more efficient ways to work in the kitchen.
    All the best,
    Dave & Steve.

I heartily recommend *not cubing* tofu, just tear it and bake it for 10 minutes to dry it a little. Wet, flat sides don't hold any sauce or seasoning.
Increase the surface area by tearing it up :) try it!

Good tip, and I agree it’s so hard to get tofu to brown. Have you also tried grating and baking it? It’s a game changer

I made this last night. It's so good and nutty with the toasted seeds, and zesty with the salsa. I highly recommend this one. It's very satisfying.

Hi, guys! great ideas. I tend to fry the two slabs first-that gives a sear a lot faster. I cube them after that and continue to brown. This way, two sides are abs uniformly browned quickly.

I did something similar to the tofu, with the nooch and I used soy sauce, but with tempeh! It really brought out the cheesy funkyness of the tempeh 😋

I am not happy using tofu since watching a video about the environmental impact of tofu. It uses a huge amount of water, which i knew, but the waste water poisons not only rivers but also the nearby land, reducing its agricultural value. Apparently, the tofu industry is only just starting to deal with this issue (using the waste water to produce methane). Is there a way to identify tofu that is produced in an environmentally acceptable way?

I'm not understanding how this is low in fat. Avocado is quite high in fat, tofu is relatively high in fat. Sesame seeds are high in fat as are pumpkin seeds. All in all, you have 1300 calories, 38g of fat and 80g of protein. For two servings. Honestly, that is anything but low fat since the recommendation for a low fat diet is 30g or less per day. In one serving this dish would be 650 calories, 40g of protein (no one needs to eat this much protein in one meal), and 19g of fat, 3 of which are saturated fat. This is decidedly NOT a lo fat dish. I love your show, and your recipes seem wonderful, but please learn what low fat is before proclaiming a dish low fat just because you didn't cook with oil.
