👴 Old Composer Reactions 🤘
Geebz you gotta just listen to the entire album at this point from front to back. It makes it so much better as a listening expiereience. Especially for a new listener. BTBAM have been my favorite band since 2005 and this is my favorite album as well. Give it a listen if you can. Thanks!
Absolute facts
Colors 1 used to be my fav but Parallax II may have surpassed it at some point. I've probably listened to them both over 1000 times by now from start to finish every time.
agreed
Silent flight parliament on this album is probably my all time favorite btbam song.
A man a taste🧐🧐🧐
Future Sequence is the greatest BTBAM album.
Saw them performing part 1 and 2 together, great show
One of my favorite BTBAM tracks (out of MANY)
This whole album is just on another level. They knocked it out of the park.
REAL DRUMMER BTW
Whoever got him to listen to this, thank you.
Been here since the beginning Geebz, keep it up. I’ll always click when I see you checking out Protest the Hero, and Between the Buried and Me.
I saw them live for the first time last July with Thank You Scientist and Rivers of Nihil. I might as well have been listening to the album. They are that good live. They even had a backup guitarist (Tristan Auman) filling in for Dustie Waring and he didn't miss a beat. And Dan Briggs is an insane bassist.
I saw that tour as well in New Orleans, it was so good
@IsDavidReal I live in their home city (Winston-Salem, NC) where they ended that tour. My nephew works sound and lighting at the venue here and got to do some of the sound for Thank You Scientist. I hung out with him at the sound booth for a lot of the show. Such an awesome experience.
I've never seen BTBAM live (Sad face) but this reminds of when I saw The Contortionist with Haken and Devin Townsend. DT and Haken had a great live sound and performances but the Contortionist's live mixing was just that next level of Hi-fi... sounded like the album but live (not a backing track mimed performance)
@t3hgir I need to check out The Contortionist a bit more. I've only listened to a few songs so far. Just too many bands I need delve into to keep up with.
@@plantdesigns7889 their album Language is genuinely incredible
my first ever concert was seeing this band live last july, they played this whole album in its entirety and i'll never forget it. one of my favorites on the album for sure!
Use to listen to this baby back to back to back to back to back to back. Went and saw them when they did a tour when this album came out. Got hooked when Rock Band 2 had this free DLC pack when you got the game and their song "Prequel to the Sequel" was on. Parallax 1 came out and got that. No one knew how awesome parallax 2 was gonna be. Thanks for listening to this song. Don't listen to them anymore but I was hooked on them really hard and this brings back memories
What's great about this is the mix. You can hear every instrument clearly in this mix. Of course, when you have players who execute their parts so cleanly really helps. Just an amazing band.
one example of the genius of Blake Richardson I try to steal on drums:
instead of typical "Portnoy fills" RLRLKK + RLKK + RLRLRLKK played in 16th note, 16th note triplets or 32nds, Blake will often lead with his left hand hitting a high tom, then next lower tom, then two hits on the snare.
Sticking being LRLRKK but played in the same subdivision of 16th note triplet. Listen during any of the unison sections or heavy drum fill sections in White Walls, Specular Reflection, this song lol, Lunar Wilderness has an insane tom+double kick sections all leading left hand LrlrKKLrlrKK... with a nice accented rimshot on the snare with the left hand.
Watch a drum playthrough (or learn how to read a custom drum chart for the program Phase Shift :)))) )and you'll see how his typical patterns are so different from most of his other contemporaries!
eating peanut butter straight out of the jar while listening to btbam - if there is something close to a heaven, I am pretty sure it looks somewhat like this :D
What completely boggles my mind any time I hear them is, that even though they've been my favourite band for about a decade now, I still get goosebumps every time I hear Dans bass work during those calm interludes. Out of everything I ever listened to, these parts are my absolute favourites, and of those, the one in this song (9:10 in the video) takes the crown!
This has been my favourite metal album (period) since its release 12(!?) years ago now. When I tell you that the bass section around 7 minutes in, followed by each member joining in one by one STILL gives me chills to this day, I mean it.
My favourite track is probably still Extremophile Elite (check out the Parallax II Live official vid for best results), but there's no down moment on this album.
Just learned this song on guitar, it’s one of their most slept on songs
If you listen to a BTBAM album, thos is the album. Its one of my favorite albums of all time. Just saw that it was your birthday? Happy birthday Geebz!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE review "Racecar" from Periphery 😢 that song has so much meaning to me and my life and I would be honored to see what you think of it.
Finally!!! Finally someone reacting to Melting City. Omg this is in the top 3 of my favorite BTBAM songs. I can't believe no one else on UA-cam reacted to it!
Yeah I was anxiously waiting for that masterpiece of a section at the end to see your reaction. What you said you were gonna - I did. I rewound it over and over again, and I happily would've let it go on for several more minutes. It's like a brain massage.
A top 3 BTBAM track for me. That little bass section towards the end is probably my all time favourite section in music. Even listening to it here, I had goosebumps and a huge smile on my face.
Thnx for introducing me to this gem
Nice! Another song of one of their best albums for sure. I could seriously pay to watch you give your thoughts and enjoy a full album of theirs. Just one hopefully sometime.
Have you listened to Silent Flight Parliament from this album as well. My absolute fav song from them. Killer riff
Pantera - Shedding Skin needs to be done!
This is such a fantastic deep cut. So happy to see them on the channel again!
God, this song man...I gotta revisit this album, it's been quite a few years since I've done so, and that's a crime I'm committing against myself.
back for this... Miss him doing BTBAM reactions. Always wanted to see him react to BTBAM Extremophile Elite Live DVD Version. So so so so good. He would really appreciate the orchestral live arrangement and seeing them all jam live.
Thank you Geebz
Love the BTBAM content. Still hoping The Future Is Behind Us one day. I think Geebz would eat that isht up \m/
Yeah, dude.
Hot damn! Love you getting back to BTBAM!🤙
I remember first hearing of them on rock band 2 so long ago, and they quickly got to be one of my favorites with such a unique style of writing.
Love this prog and heavier stuff on the channel, Geebz. I'm still here, and keep on rocking!🤙🤘
I'm still here...I agree with many that you should listen to this album fromt to back it is epic. That could be a cool change to your channel that i thinl a lot of ppl would enjoy. Especially BTBAM fans since all their albums are pure gold and most are like one long song. BTBAM=The gods of metal
Dude, I love you so much for dissecting one of my favorite bands of all time. Much love
They also did a "live in the studio" version of this album, and it adds a whole new dynamic. Highly recommended.
This song is the most slept on btbam song in my opinion. Just such a sick track
Astral body is the track in this album, period
Extremophile Elite for me
Astral body right into Lay your ghosts to rest
Serious question as a music veteran in prog metal and rock (and maaaaany other genre): Is there a way to find music that is like the section starting around 9:30, but as a gerne? Like, no metal or screams (or even vocals) and I am not talking about jazz or smooth jazz. These intersections of prog metal bands are the best shit I have ever heard. Tesseract does that stuff, Periphery, BTBAM, Haken, even Dream Theater, any of them have these silkysmooth juicy prog intersections and sometimes a few interlude tracks, but give me 10 min songs that are that way! :D
Any suggestions are welcome!
I think the band he was looking to compare them too is Haken.
The song transitions into the greatest song BTBAM ever wrote, Silent Flight Parliament
Still my favorite metal album
What is the name of this band ,, love it
Do Kittie's new song "We Are Shadows".
As a fellow UA-camr/Twitch Streamer - how do you not get mired in endless hell contesting DMCA takedowns or have your channels deleted from copyright strikes? You're listening to really popular music with almost no breaks signed on major labels who I know for a fact are all over these platforms.
I'd love a genuine answer because I've gotten issues over the most minor of things years ago (I literally got a DMCA over an 8 bit midi of a Between the Buried and Me song played behind a video game as I was talking as well) and they've only gotten worse with overzealous enforcement lately.
Dude I used to stream NES Metroid years ago and got copyright claims not from Nintendo (which would've been annoying but at least made sense) but from music artists who either sampled something from the game or recorded a cover of it. Almost like if you were listening to Funky Drummer one day and got claimed by some rando who used the drum break once. I don't get it at all. I think both times it was through Tunecore and not the artists themselves.
Dear God you have to listen to the last song lol
Tthey used to be my fave band of all time then i just suddenly went off of them and dont enjoy anymore 😢
As someone who is taking care of multiple terminally ill family members get fix whatever needs fixed, while it's still a small issue.
I only really like the progrock part. king crimson/genesis/yes, that stuff.
one pause in the video? this is NOT transformative
This whole album is fantastic. I suggest listening to it the whole way through.
