FAQ:
Who is this lady?
Gina Petitti was born in 1935 in Faeto, Italy. It is in the province of Foggia in the Puglia region of southeast Italy. Her family ran a farm in Italy and she met her husband, Vito, in the same town. In 1970 Gina, Vito, and her 4 children immigrated to America. Gina’s husband passed away in 2012, but she is surrounded by a large family, which includes 9 grandchildren, and lives 5 minutes away from her eldest daughter in New Jersey. Gina enjoys making food for her family in the same old fashion ways as she was taught by her mother and grandmother in Italy, and also new things she has subsequently learned from family and friends in America. She also enjoys gardening, and being an active member of her local Church.
Where does Gina get her recipes?
Most of these recipes are from what she learned growing up in Italy, but some of them have evolved over time. She has also learned new recipes from friends and family in America. She is always eager to try new things.
Why is no one helping her in the video?
Grandma Gina doesn’t want help! Usually, it’s because we will slow her down or not do it “her way.” For the videos we only show her, but when the camera cuts we jump in and help form the cookies or prep for the next step.
Why don’t we buy her a new...?
Grandma Gina has a closet and garage full of new gadgets, spoons, forks, pots, etc… but she doesn’t like them because she is used to doing it with her old tools. She has fun getting her hands dirty!
Who is behind the camera and behind the scenes?
Grandma Gina’s retired son-in-law, Nick, does the filming, editing, production, and channel management. Her daughter, Maria, helps with food preparation, kitchen setup and fan support. Also, Grandma Gina usually has one or two grand-kids in the kitchen to help.
Does Gina read the comments?
We print out and show her how much love she gets from all her viewers, and she is very thankful and hopes you enjoy her cooking! Your comments bring her lots of joy, laughter, and inspiration to make more videos to share with you.
Thank you for watching, we hope you subscribe, and we will see you in our next video!
It's ALWAYS a good day when the UA-cam notification says Nonna Gina has a new video to watch!!!! Yum yum yum. Yay! Thank you, Gina!
I continue to be amazed she keeps doing this. I'm half her age and probably half her energy too.
@@tomservo75 no where near 1/2 more like 20% and totally 💯 agree!!
When my grandfather came from Arcella to NYC and then to Canada he met my grandmother on the train. They fell in love and married. She made these for us. Problem was she was coming from Scotland and didn't speak Italian. He didn't speak English. They had a big family and a long happy life. So maybe the language barrier was actually their "secret spice". ;>} Thank you so much for your videos!
That's a wonderful story....God bless them !❤ Cx
They were meant to be together in this lifetime ❤❤❤
How lovely !
What’s beautiful story ! Thank you for sharing it, it made me smile.
how beautiful!
Omg..what a great story ❤
Grandma Gina, you make every day brighter! Thank you for another wonderful recipe! 🥰💜
Oh my Dear Gina, my mother used to make something very similar (I’m 79). She used different spices in them, but no matter. No one ever knew what I was talking about, and I could not explain. Her recipe was lost. I used to watch her make the dough, roll, cut, and use the fork after cutting. Then she would fry them. She pronounced “Cannaricol”. Through the years I’ve searched for a recipe to no avail, today, I was blessed to tune in and see what you were cooking. My mother also used a syrup. I’m so happy, I have tears in my eyes; they are tears of joy. Thank you and God Bless you.
Gina's been a blessing to all of us Italians with missing recipes! I just love her.♥️ This recipe was missing for me too! The thing I love most is I know Gina has the real authentic version of each recipe she makes.
God bless Gina and her wonderful family for creating this channel for us. I'm forever grateful.♥️✝️🕊️
I love this channel! Makes any day a better day! ❤❤❤
Wonderful video. I cherish all of Gina's recipes. My favorite parts are always when she sings. Back in the 70s, growing up we had a local pizza place owned by an Italian family who was well loved in our area. I remeber as a kid hearing their Nonna singing in the kitchen while making pizza. Those memories are ingrained in my mind as well as the amazing scents and to-die-for food coming from that little place. Gina, you take me back there all the time. Much love ❤️ to you and your family from Florida.
I am sure I speak for myself and our friends here. We love you Gina. Thank you sharing your great recipes. God bless you.
She's as bright as the sunshine 🌞 I love her 💕
Thank you, Nona Gina! Those treats look delicious. It was beautiful to hear you speak Italian. 😊❤
My mother called them struvolli. We didnt shape them with a fork. We just cut them small and added more honey so they were sticky. At Christmas time we'd shape them into a wreath and shake sprinkles over the top.
They are delicious!👌❤
yes, ours were made the same way. sprinkles and all, so good!
Thank you Grandma Gina for sharing your beautiful memories and recipes with us! ❤
You are fantastic! You really should be on TV😊
Aloha, Mother Gina. ♥️🙏🏾✝️Beautiful to hear you speaking your language. Could you teach us some Italian words on your video too? I love you too. Aloha from Hawaii.♥️
Love love love to you and yours…. This is the secret to world peace Grandma Gina cooking for us.
This world needs more Grandma Ginas!!
My grandmother many years ago made a treat very similar to this recipe, she came from Lipari one of Italy's Aeolian islands...the treat was called Gigi. My other grandmother came from Foggia San Marco in Lamis an area where I think Nonna Gina came from. Pity many of my grandmothers' recipes were never written down :(
Oh my! I use to eat those as q child and LOVE them. I'm definitely going to do this.
In Calabria we call them Turdilli ❤
Looks yummy! I'm so glad i stayed till the end. I don't know what she said, but i loved watching her telling her story in her first language. Beautiful 💐❤️🤍💙
She makes my day because she looks, and sounds exactly like my grandma . ❤and cooks like her also ❤ love her❤️🐝
Me too...same ❤❤❤
Me also…weren’t we lucky to have wonderful Italian grandmothers ❤️✌️😊

Howdy grandma Gina!! Ty for sharing your wonderful recipes with us 😊
My grandmother who was from Naples made these. She made them at Christmas. I didnt know the name of them. I called them Grandmoms WINE COOKIES. I Loved them as a kid. I made them a few times. But haven't done it in a long time.❤😊
I love watching your videos because they remind me of my childhood.
Hello from Malta 🇲🇹and Canada 🇨🇦
Hello!! From Florida!! ❤
It's a good day when I get to see Nona Gina! I love to hear your stories of when you were little girl and singing while teaching us delicious recipes! God Bless and love you Gina!!❤❤
Dear Grandma Gina! I say GOODBYE to my low carb low everything diet. I would eat that whole bowl of little pillows of heaven!
I’m carnivore and I’m sitting here thinking, screw that for a day! Easter I eat whatever I want.
I love the beautiful ending.
So beautiful to hear you speaking at the end…reminds of mom and Nona and all my aunts and uncles at family gatherings.I didn’t speak Italian but loved listening to the stories anyway…I’m 74 now and lost my last uncle this year( mom was one of 10 kids)…it’s sad knowing that generation is gone now…but I have a he best memories of them all…and oh the food was unbelievable!!!!!
Missed you Nonna! Glad to see you again!!❤
I want to be the first to comment, well a bit late but close :D I love you Gina! Can't wait to watch your new video! :) Watched them all !
I get so happy to see Gina too!
Okay so I watched this video now, it was wonderful as usual, you never disapoint the viewers. I kept on smiling at every single thing that you said Gina, you remind me of my grandmother so much, while I am smiling non-stop I also get some tears in my eyes but I think this is normal and I think I may not the only person watching who you have this effect on Gina. You know when you forgot to do the cross before you started mixing the dough I noticed it immidiately , and of course I had to smile again when you remembered :) Also I would like to ask the son-in-law if he would be nice enough to translate for me the last part at the end, I don't speak Italian unfortunetly and would be cool to find out that story too.
At the very end of the video I speak in my dialect, Faetar. It is an old language with French origins. I talk about how much my father loved Carnevale time. The older men would get together in the evenings after a long day of farm work and enjoy a glass of wine, a slice of prosciutto or cheese, tell stories....
Gina grande donna, saluti dall'Italia ❤
My Sicilian family called these pinolata. Always had them at Christmas time and Easter.
Gina thank you for sparking my old memories too. I remember my mother and her mother making these. The only difference was they rolled them into tiny balls. For Easter they would pile them into a pyramid and add sprinkles. Good old memories.
Ohhhhh Strega !!!! ❤❤❤❤ 👍
Delicioso, 😋 exquisito !!!
Un fuerte abrazo desde Madrid 🇪🇦
Nothing could ever be as sweet as You, Gina. Love so much ❤
Hello Gina and family!!!❤ I was so happy to check my notifications and see you had another video out!!😁 My mother used to make those, too but she rolled into little balls...fried them...coated with honey mixture and sprinkled a little bit of nonpareils on them. She especially made for the holidays. She also made Bow Ties and dusted them with powdered sugar.
I hope your children and grandchildren realize how lucky they are to have this library of videos to help them keep traditions going!❤ I wish I had my mom on video like this. How cool would that be? I always tell my 25 yr old son to watch your videos. It's the closest to watching his own grandma cooking. You and my mom look/cook so similarly it's scary! 😁 Everyone I send your videos to says the same thing..."OMG...she looks so much like your mother!".
Once again, thanks for making me so happy watching you cook!!! After all...if I wanna eat, I gotta cook!!!
😘😁💃💖🙋
Oh my, the bows! I loved them too! All my mom's recipes were lost. Did they use the same dough? If not will you send me the recipe?
The balls we call struvolli and added sprinkles too. At Christmas we'd shape them into a wreath.
Great memories!
@@onepanwonders3579 How funny! 💃 I need to see if I can get to my mother's house. My oldest sister still lives there and I hope she didn't get rid of them! I doubt she did. I can just taste them in my mind and the crispiness of them!!! 😋 I hope Gina makes them, too. Just about everything she makes is like my mother's!!! She comes from the same are as my mother's father (Foggia) so, maybe she can hook us up with that recipe? 😋🙏🙏 If my sister has my mother's recipe, I will def send to you!! Most of my mother's recipes were in her head. She just passed a little over a year ago at almost 98. 😞 I can't ask her anymore.
my family ties them in knots like the bows. made at Christmas. sprinklw with multi colored non periels after coating with honey. i too dont have the recipe my mom used sadly but my cousins probably do. i have an old polly-o cookbook from the 60s that has excellent italian recipes might have this cant recall. Seems Ginas recipe could be used and same if not similiar. If i ever have time id like to make some too one day.
Great memories and delicious.
Thank you Gina, those Turdilla brought back so many memories of my mom making them for Christmas.
Grazie Nonna Gina🎉❤

Grandma Gina, I grew up in a Dutch neighborhood where there were lots of wonderful Grandmas teaching the girls how to cook the Dutch recipes. However, there weren't any Italian Grandmas and so you have been my patient teacher for all those wonderful dishes that I love but never could make as good as the restaurants. God Bless and Thank you for the many wonderful meals you have taught the world. P.S. Keep Singing!
I’m Napoli, they were called Struffoli. I make them at Easter and Christmas.
Thanks for another lovely video❣️
My grandmother lived with us and she spoke Italian all the time. I picked up all I could as a child. Now, I am learning Italian. Part of learning Italian is to hear it a lot. I loved the end of the video Gina when you spoke in Italian. Please do more of it in your future videos. I want to pass on to my children the love of the Italian language. Thank you.
Listening is a big part of the learning. Keep it up! It is worth it!
My mom made these all the time around Christmas time.

My mother and grandmother used to make these when I was a child. I'm 63 now and oh I still love them. 🙂🦋
I remember eating these in San Genaro festival in New York!
those are zeppolis a bit different but similiar. At feast theyre a lot bigger and sprinkled with powdeted sugar they shake in the bag. loved eating them hot and got powdered sugar all over my shirt but didnt care ..so good! my dilema was always get zeppolis or the italian pastry from ferraras. i say eat the zeppolis there hot and bring the pastry home! That feast was a lot better in the past as all nyc was.
there's a lot of wisdom in those hands.....those hands have kneaded a lot of dough ❤
Ti vogliamo bene anche, Nonna Gina 🇮🇹❤🇮🇹
