100%, well put. I think Hazy's comment about social media / YT not really being able to show the 'whole story' about outdoorsy pursuits, hiking and adventuring is really poignant. Theres a tendency with social media to get a false perception about these things because naturally people want to just show off the good parts...whether it's a holiday, a hike, a camp or whatever, nobody is showing off the stuff behind the scenes...the dirt, the sweat, the drugery the pain etc. But that is all equally an important part of the experience! The joyful bits wouldnt be as joyful without the offset from those less enjoyable less kind moments. We truly savour the beauty and the joy because it's not a constant state, and that's the point! But oftentimes on social media, we get a false presentation wherein everything is picture perfect, yet the reality is, it's not. I always think it's something to bear in mind with social media. It's not always a true reflection of what the person experienced. It's a carefully curated version of it. Not necessarily meaning Haze's vids because he generally keeps it quite real and raw...but so much outdoors content purely shows the views, the smiles and the beers, and leaves out the rain, mud, bugs, sweat and hurting joints.
I'm going to have to dig out the special, VIP "doffing" cap for when you crack open that can of beer - you deserve it!! This is a brilliant set of videos and momentous effort, mate. Beats anything on TV by a country mile. Thank you.
Agree with you. Mesmerising. I fall asleep watching Country File...but not this. Absolutely loved watching your journey and can’t wait for you to crack open the Faith 💗
Cannot wait to attempt this trail when I retire in a few years. Must have watched this playlist about 20 times and been following the route on Google maps.
After falling, the third time flat on my back, dropping into upper Hellhole Canyon from over the ridge north of Pena Spring, bleeding from both hands and arms scraped by granite boulders hugged fast upon falling the first and second time, I sat on that steep incline and took stock…. I was 63. The promised waterfall, situated in a tributary entering from the north, was a long hard mile hike away, and the canyon floor had no trail. The 100 yards that separated me from that rocky bottom looked no easier than my previous exertions which have led me here, 63, shaking on a rock on the side of a cliff, the waterfall sounding just far enough away, and the reality of facing a climb on all fours just to regain the ridge. I had to abort my mission due to exhaustion halfway down another damn upper Hellhole Canyon. February 19, 2016 You made me remember! Hard trip but good memory
This has been bril. Thx a lot. I can relate cos back in 1980, I spent 6-weeks on Eigg to do my geological mapping project for my degree... I camped in an isolated spot and trawled all over the island every day - no one knew where I was and when I think back..... all weather, all terrain. I talked to sheep, myself, God, the flies..... I managed though and won the prize for best project.
We as Haze supporters have to share this incredible content. There is no reason he dose not have his first UA-cam plaque. We as supporters have to step it up. This man is amazing. Share, share, share………I got your 6 brother
"Mappy Gilmore", caused uncontrolled laughter whilst holding a mouthfull of vodka and coke......Straight out of my nose and onto my wife's lunch. Followed by a whipping slap from the wife, Straight round me noggin. Followed by shocking language that I've never heard her use before. I placed knocked off headphones back onto my head kept me mouth shut and continued to watch this flippin awesome video......Even domestic violence can't stop me watching. 👍
Great example of staying positive when average people would have given up! You've been an inspiration to me since your "show your steak" episode. Love your channel Haze! Big howdy from Texas
It’s just amazing. The man is a typical Yorkshire chap. The best thing I have ever seen on you tube. I subscribed a week ago. I can’t wait to see the final part. Thank you Mr Haze. You have lifted my spirits whilst working nights for the NHS 👍
I can't even explain the pure joy I get from watching your adventures. This has been such a delight to watch these 14 days of hiking, camping & everything in between. The beauty of the land, the commentary & the positive attitude you have makes me so very happy. Thank you, Haze, for who you are. You are an inspiration to all of us to get out & see our beautiful world. On a side note, take care of your feet. I've watched you limping & can't imagine the pain you are in with your feet. I'm sure you know all this but please take extra special care of your feet. You only have 2 & even one of them going down will ruin everything. Please take care Haze, we need you to spread joy to all of us, like you do.
I loved every minute of it! I thought about you on Fri. I went for a day hike alone near Loch Lomond and I fell. Face first basically. I lost two teeth and I now have 4 stitches in my bottom lip. I am such the Beauty! Still, I managed to bag the teeth and find a safe place before finding the help I needed to go back down and to AE. Watching your videos now, resting, and fighting the fear of falling. Sending you much much love and good vibes mx
Can't wait for the last one. The whole series has been one of the best ever things on UA-cam. I've thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Thanks for sharing this with us and taking the time and extra weight to bring us the highlights and lowlights of your journey. Pure, dead brilliant 💪
I don’t think you have complained or been negative at all. You’ve had a great attitude through the whole hike. You’ve kept it real and honest about the trials, struggles, and pains. That’s so important for people to see and understand. Great job you!
Well done you. Cape wrath. Been there before and what a journey. Tired as you are you shall be, never forget it you shall for that is now in your blood. Great for your mind and soul. 👍🏻🙂
A really good thing for the feet is comfrey oil. Put on at night, overnight. Takes a lot of the 'anger' and redness out, helps build callus and heals 2x as fast.
Hazey mate you are the reason i started hiking back in 2019 after i see you do the coast to coast ( also my first hike ) I will definitely be helping turning them little red dots to red dashes 😊
Been epic these instalments and look forward to the final one. Thank god you didn’t interfere with the dead animals any other way 😱 but verbally Medicccc … 🌿
Negativity is normal without it people will go to the hills thinking it will be easy, this is not Instagram life where everything is perfect, perfect locations, perfect holidays, perfect body doing this give a more negative view that is not real. enjoyed the series so far.
just an incredible show of resistance, of perseverance, of mind over matter, of putting the pain to one side... in resisting that beer. all the rest is a piece of pish
So glad you kept going. Keeping the Faith, despite soul destroying weather and the ubiquitous bogs, midges, and tick infestation. I love that you've kept it real and haven't tried to sugar coat how tough the trail is...and how tough it must be to stay motivated. Well done you! xx
Just an idea for your next expedition series mate, maybe a northern monk sponsored version of lands end to John o groats, camping and B&Bs when required. Think that would be awesome if you could get the time off work and raise money for a charity or something for completing it. Just an idea
Definitely Jon O groats to lands end.. Jons a craphole without much there.. I was underwhelmed when I got there after going all that way from lands end

I sat the other night after purchasing a can of Northern Monk Faith from the local Tescos and I thoroughly enjoyed just going along the journey while drinking what I have say was a very nice alcoholic beverage. Hopefully I can work up to this type of walk a few years down the road once I get some experience under my belt. Brilliant video and looking forward to the finally (final thing, who knows how to spell that). Have a good one.
I fully understand how you feel. I did ten tours (Dartmoor) disabled route 2 . I had to have a week of after because I could not stand. Now I’m 49 and wheelchair bound I often remember the pain I was in but now … I can’t remember what it’s like to walk … More power to you …

Utterly amazing, Hazy! The CWT is SO remote it’s scary. Your stint in the power rangers certainly made you comfortable with being uncomfortable & there’s many a hiker who dreams of the CWT, I’ve certainly watched the CWT Ultra videos and would love to do it, but as you say they don’t show the treacherous, boggy underfoot, midges, ticks and relentless rain. You are one tough person both physically and mentally. Inspiring stuff mate. ❤️👍
I'd love to know your food requirements for this hike. From these (excellent) videos it appears that you're only on about 1500 calories a day, which I know is impossible to survive on when hiking...MEDIC!!!.... I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see a 'food' list in addition to an equipment list? Looking forward to the next one 👍
Interesting question. I reckoned between 1500 and 1800 calories a day for Hazy. I'm guessing sugar and carbs intake is low as Hazy often mentions looking forward to sweets. There's a process where one can avoid sugar and carbs and the body produces ketones from fat which can be used efficiently as food, called ketosis. It takes training and one must be very careful but I'm guessing Hazy may have lost weight. I'm interested in this as carrying food in the wild is the main weight, especially when water is freely available. Hitting the wall in marathon running is when the body is depleted of the glycogens from sugar and carbs and the body goes ketonic. Experienced marathon and endurance athletes prepare for this. I know the diet specialists supporting our cyclists is a massive issue and a race can be won or loss on diet and preparation, so some really useful ideas may be hard to find out. I'm a bikepacker and weight on the hills really grinds me down.
