- Michael Gilman has modified the traditional Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan Long Form by changing the application of the repeated movements, so each has a slightly different appearance. This 108 movement form is shown twice - first from the rear for practice and next from the front to see details. Michael Gilman has 40 years teaching experience. Thank you for moving slowly and calling out the forms. Showing back and front view really helps with beginners. Mahalo from Hawaii !
None like you. with giving the back view something as simple as that literally allowed me to grasp this art that has been a bit hard to grasp for some time now. Thank you Master
Glad I can help. good luck on your studies.
So nice to see someone do it well!
Thank you Michael...I have been practicing and teaching this form....I am working on the video for your review. I have started the master class as you have requested. I hope by this fall I will be ready for your review. Again, thanks so very much for your detailed analysis and clear communication. Unending Gratitude. Thea.
Thank you for posting this, master. You couldn't have posted this at a better time for me.
Love description of each move. And no music allows great concentration on moves. Most of the vids showing 108 moves is just music. Great vid for me
Bought the first version of this video on vhs years ago. Very glad to see it on youtube now!
Front view starts at 21:30
Awesome upload is awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Nice 20 minute workout, and showing the back view is very helpful. This is the best video on the long form of Master Choy Kam Man that I've found so far, but I am just getting started on this amazing set of videos. What is meant by "modification" in the sense of how does this differ from the pure form done by Master Choy? Is there an unmodified video from behind of the pure Master Choy long form? Where can I find the original "cheat sheet" listing the movements issued by Master Choy? Great stuff, so glad you're doing this Michael.
I noticed that you don't do "shoulder press" between "raise hands" and "crane spreads its wings"...why?
I do use shoulder press for the second transition in the long form. If I didn't in the video, I do now. Thanks for pointing this out. You might look at my Applications Videos here.
He does the shoulder press and it is subtle. It is definitely done in the second raise hands and crane (stork) spreads wings has been for at least three and a half years, since I've been with him. His modifications make the long form more challenging to learn, and useful in their applications.
Oh dear ,that is not modification it is mis representation.
I've learned you can't please all the people all the time.
Oh dear, bullshit. Tai Chi Chuan has evolved over it's History even in China and continues, as it should. Michael's modifications are enhancements. The essence remains throughout, and it makes the whole form more interesting. The modifications to repeated move, such as Single Whip, and Waving Cloud Hands all have specific functions. I appreciate them. I have previously studied with Min Pai, a student of Chen Man Ching, and and also a senior student of William C. Chen in NYC.
It's not Tai Chi. Only Chinese masters!
Maximus555wrc are you saying he can't teach tai chi because he's not Chinese?
