Thanks Michael , my partner and I have learned the san shou set with the help of a book ! We had to imagine how the moves were meant to be executed by looking at pictures and deciphering the "chinglish" instructions . This comes as a gift ! We'll be able to refine our technique with you as teacher !
May God bless you for all the good things you gave to us all. I can't believe ,here is someone who does instruct us all of us out there who can't have a personal instructor, who cant attend a school, and now he can participate in what one loves ,tai chi .Suddenly you gave us inspiration ,insight, and shared it all with us out there. one thousand and one thanks for your present to all of us in Greece ,the World and the Seven Seas!!! a big hug of love and gratefulness and respect!!!
Thanks once again Michael for taking the time to answer back and enlightening us even further the way you dissect the whole Sanshou is just awsome everything just makes sens- many thanks to Rex as well- At 17:00 you mentioned THE WAIST that s essential and waist should not be confused with HIPS. Indeed the waist is the part of the body between the hips and the lower part of the chest( if I could draw it will look like a BARREL).So most of the time the waist is facing one way while the hips are facing another way). As a taichi student those 2 words- hips and waist- used to get me quite confused. It is true that in everyday life when you step into some clothing store the waist is usually horizontal and mixed up with the hips especially as far as men are concerned(females measurements are usually more precise since they make a distinction between hips and waist.)Anyway my point is that what matters the most is WAIST. and WAIST has the shape of a barrel or a cylinder. Love it when you go into raptures over some moves even after all these years(" it s beautifu"). I totally second that; can't help being ravished by those moves(art in itself). Another point: I m so pleased you happened to meet Master Wang Bo( just had the chance to take some lessons with his daughter and her ex husband here in Paris France/before that I had the chance to study with Lawrence Galante in NYC). TAICHI is a lifetime journey and its a real joy to watch and listen to you- I happen to teach English so here and therI use your videos for some listening practice coz your diction and rythm are congenial). One can feel your deepest love for TAICHI. and that love shows so what your are doing goes beyond TAICHI you are "flowering" LOVE and PEACE all over the world. Thanx for the sharing thanx for being who you are.Keep it up. MERCI INFINIMENT RESPAIX PEACE😊
Brilliant! I didn't know anything about this form. It makes a lot of sense to practise in this way if one has a partner and a good knowledge of Tai chi. I always thought of this possibility while studying marshal arts. I'm very happy to see that it was devised in Tai chi. Mr Gilman thank you very much for posting these videos, you are very inspirational and an unending source of Tai chi knowledge :-)
What ever happened to "attack as you like" or "let him come and hit with great strength" or "attract into emptiness, join, and discharge (TiFang)", etc., all from the teachings and writings of Professor Cheng Man-ching? This guy is not doing Tai Chi at all.

Thank you for sharing.
Very good Michael. Very close to Jou Tseng Hua's variation. I wrote an article on its history and will send you a copy. Thanks, Justin
I look forward to reading it. You are right in the fact that I learned this form from Master Jou.
his glasses have not been destroyed hahahaha
