This thing on the road is a wet dream for ambulance chasing lawyers.

Serious suggestion. Trailer hitch attached to the front, tow by truck to the venue, and once there, "drive" if you want on the private showground. Your well within 'shipping container on a trailer' dimensions, and you can hook up the air lines so that the "trailer" has it's own independent brakes. It's a doable workaround, or at least a nice plan B.

That would help with staying in lane too.
I think what amazes me even more than the fact that this thing is actually running and driving, is that it was done in a relatively short time span. Amazing guys. Congratulations!

I use to be a Trucker, I think it would be best to tow this as a trailer. You can rent a truck and tow it, that way you won't have people blowing horns as you etc. as you can put a tarp over it. Trucks are made for hauling all that weight, RV's have mushy suspension, might be hard to drive and hard to keep in one lane. Good Luck...
IF you think about the Jet as the motor Home design it had outside mirrors and headlights , Bumper highth and tail lights. Camera may be used for backup just like the newer motor homes. The Highway Patrol vehicle manual shows lots of the necessary equipment for highway use

The Elvis mobile is no different than the Oscar Meyer Wiener mobile or the Planters Nut mobile. The front bumper assembly is going to require an extension as well as locating the head lights out there. And you're going to be required to install side view mirrors. FMVSS is the federal regulation for equipment required on a motor vehicle operated on public roads, however that's based on the DOM of the chassis.. There are chapters for lighting requirements and the safety bumper requirements. The rear of the Elvis mobile can extend past the rear of the frame, as if you look at pictures of the current Wiener mobile, the up-turn of the wiener is a good 3 foot past the rear bumper. Other than that, the motor home chassis you built on is not different than purchasing an incomplete vehicle that are sold for bread trucks, school busses or motor homes. You will be required to have operational wind shield wipers, and seat belts.
I had an older Honda civic that only had the driver side mounted mirror - from factory. Of course now all the cars come with two. Have to find out what today's specs require not what it was 20-40 years ago.
@AndyGaudet that's a per state law. Nevada still only requires one mirror. But I see many vehicles with no mirrors, or fenders or even plates. So I'm sure you will be ok.
If they could get a way to disconnect the drive from the rear axles and then just hook up a tow bar and tie in air brakes and the lights with the tow vehicle, as one comment mentioned, they could drive it once it gets to the events.
I am liking Jimmys world more and more, for the craziness. always be careful man, your life is in your own hands when you do totally off the chart wild things! not saying you shouldn't carry on as such, just keep deep thoughts and sleep on it some. it will help in the long run.
Jimmy, you are most likely going to have fenders installed and mud flaps on the back to prevent road debris from striking other vehicles. You have done a great job on this conversion
Sheriff Al was great, he was so very professional and gave an honest opinion of the feasibility of the project. A credit to his Police Force. And another great video Jimmy.
It's for sure cool, but it would be much better if it was sitting on the frame instead of 6 inches above it. That look reminds me of the poor man's truck lift kit. The old body lift. lol. As for getting it street-legal? I'd just register it as the RV it was, and you have the title for, and then deal with any backlash you may run into later. We are in Florida, I'm right up here in Citrus Co, so the RV registration may be all you need. lol.
Its always good to see a big smile on grizzly’s face… hes put in so much work on that thing… think you should have let him drive it first jimmy…. Anyways great job with that keep up the good work!!! Enjoyed this episode
Being a truck driver and knowing the DOT Fedral highway safety laws, the first thing you need to have is the weight in legal range on all axles, you can not use cameras as rearview mirrors dude! Im my opinion rhats not street safe at all whatsoever! Wrong chassis! You shoukd have fabricated a low rider chassis, driving that thing you need a class B license or class A depending on the weight and breaks..
Jimmy ... First, please stay away from balloons! They're not that controllable and seem to be drawn to electrical wires! I really enjoy your channel and especially your quest to get the hybrid Elvis jet and motor home legally on the road. I grew up in Upstate New York and post junior college went on to attend Florida State, where I received my BS in Communications. Point well-taken about the heat, but especially the humidity which is absolutely oppressive and wilting for several months. At FSU, I typically showered 2-3 times per day, during the hottest months, in an attempt to stay cool! It's too bad you couldn't remove the nose radome (and stow it at the rear of the fuselage), since it appears the motor home bumper mounting brackets closely vertically align with where the front of the fuselage ends, and the nose radome attaches. All the best ... and stay safe! God Bless!
I love it If all else fails Jimmy, you could convert a 18 wheeler trailer and put it on top like you did with the RV chassis, with a nice same year vintage 18 wheeler pulling it. For instance a 1962 Supercharged Mack B-77 Semi Tractor 💡
Sheriff Al is truly super, loves aviation and loves what you do (krazy as that is!)! Jimmy, you MAY NOT be the first - there is a UA-cam video entitled "I turned a plane into a Luxury RV" - the channel is "Ridiculous Rides" - It LOOKS like it might have been a DC-6? - It was definitely a recip, and it had a radome, the canopy area is much more vertical than Elvis's jet (being a recip). Its still got the rams horn VOR antenna on top so that had to be included in the overall height Its definitely quite long. If this got on the road, Elvis should as well. Darn I can't look into it closer - I'm at work LoL 🛩
@15:52 So you're saying there's a chance...😂 Thanks to Sheriff Al and all first responders. I'm a former 40 year Florida resident and I get it Jimmy. I feel that way about NE Tennessee now. Good luck with getting the project approved for roadworthiness.👊
The government "no" reflex is the main reason I suggested making it into a fifth-wheel RV (and still do). I wonder if it's as top-heavy as it looks. Still, an amazing project, even at this stage.
I imagine that air frame is lighter than the chassis it's mounted to with the diesel power unit, transmission steel frame and other components. But yes she looks top heavy from the sides. If I were to have built it, I would have recessed the chassis deeper into the hull of the jet dropping it 2 to 3 feet lower.
@@phatboizbackyardkustomz9006 Yes. Part of the concept of top--heavy includes the action of weight through its moment from the center of gravity. The length of that arm multiplies the effect.
But if you know it's a hot dog it's on a chassis of a pickup the driver's test for lower the hot dog so you can see everything like he was in a regular pickup
You're not making Oshkosh by highway under its own power. You will need an extended front bumper, rear bumper with body skirts attached to the plane extending down below the RV frame, headlights, marker, tail lights, and mud flaps. You will not have enough time to execute making those modifications working around the clock and getting a CDL certification for roadworthyness.
@@miloswanson9646 A CDL could easily be required if they believe it is intended to take passengers for hire. Or any other reason it seems like a commercial vehicle to the authorities.
I kind of wondered why you didn't just put it on a flatbed trailer to make it easy.......but that would be no fun or as entertaining as this! I mean really....what could go wrong? Can't wait to see it with all the sheet metal fabrication!
As Pastor Jimmy would say The lord works in mysterious ways and the sun will shine on the righteous well you got a big helping hand from Grisly and what a vehicle to hit the road in cant wait to see it. I will paint you a water colour when its finished. Nice one be safe and crack on
Hey Jimmy.... my wife's late uncle used to be the Florida state attorney, Robert Nabors was his name (uncle Bob to us). He used to work on the principal of unless it specifically says you can not then you can. He pushed the envelope quite hard in his career using that principal. I miss that guy, he was quite a character. We inherited his 1959 red Morris Minor when he passed a few years back.
No DOT glass, no safety mirrors, no clear ingress/egress points, less field of view than a Countach, you can't even tell if you're in you're own lane... This whole video is a potential legal nightmare for you if you get in an accident. Civil and criminal. Seriously, put it on a flatbed and trailer it instead of putting lives at risk.
Alpachian American lmao I mean UA-cam Karen……Doubt he’s gonna drive it 60 mph down the road if that were true all kinds of red necks would be doing it. Looks like something that would be in a parade like a float. This is just content he’s making, he’s already got a final plan.
Looking at this again...I reiterate that Jimmy's brain has left the building. This jet should have been restored and put on static display. It's a shame its been been deconstructed to this level...real shame.
Hey Jimmy. I have worked in food retail for 27 years, and during that time I have seen the Oscar Mayer Weiner Mobile several times at events and it is made from an Airplane and attached to a 1 ton GM chassis and it is 100% street legal and it travels all over the U.S. I hope this helps out in some way toward getting the Elvis plane street legal.
Jimmy,,, put a hydraulically extending bumper in the frame up front !! Retract it when not on the road. Will help for the looks while camping and showing it off. Then re-extend it for road use!! Good luck with your plan!
If they make you change the steering wheel, you should make it interchangeable, so if you have it at shows or anything you can keep the stock steering wheel on it, when driving. Switch it to the legal version, just an idea! ❤❤ the Elvis jet it's awesome!!
Get a part of the Elvis Jet at www.SaveThe310.com before they are gone forever

Putting some cameras and monitors in so it would be like looking through the lower part while you are driving to get rid of not seeing stuff.

I have seen others that have turned jets into rv's and road worthy. I do, however, love the Elvis jet RV
Mecum Auction had a Jet converted into a Limousine.
@15:52 So you're saying there's a chance...😂
Thanks to Sheriff Al and all first responders.
I doubt it's top heavy. Airplanes are designed to be light. It's all aluminum while the motor home frame is all steel.
Love it mate! Well done to get this far, epic build 👏👏👏👏👏💪 from Australia 🇦🇺
If Oscar Mayer can get a Hot Dog on the road then Jimmy's Elvis Jet Hotel on wheels should be easy breezy~
But if you know it's a hot dog it's on a chassis of a pickup the driver's test for lower the hot dog so you can see everything like he was in a regular pickup
My guess is you're going to need someone from the Dept of Transportation."DOT" to inquire within.
CDL is NOT required for an RV, so why would one be required for a RV chassis with a different 'body' bolted to it???
@@miloswanson9646 A CDL could easily be required if they believe it is intended to take passengers for hire. Or any other reason it seems like a commercial vehicle to the authorities.
One the best guests on Jimmy's world.
I kind of wondered why you didn't just put it on a flatbed trailer to make it easy.......but that would be no fun or as entertaining as this! I mean really....what could go wrong? Can't wait to see it with all the sheet metal fabrication!
exactly!
Cool officer. He knows you don't have a flying chance of driving down the streets! Put a tow pin Jimmy until destination.
As Pastor Jimmy would say The lord works in mysterious ways and the sun will shine on the righteous well you got a big helping hand from Grisly and what a vehicle to hit the road in cant wait to see it. I will paint you a water colour when its finished. Nice one be safe and crack on
Tesla uses a yoke style cutaway steering wheel on its Plaid models so precedent is set.
I can’t believe you made that work unbelievable, well done
Good to see you got a 4 star General to oversee the project.
just over in pasco county here. so cool to see this so close to home! mr al is really cool and hope to see more content with him.
As C. W. Lemoine has said frequently...MAKE THEM TELL YOU NO!!!
Gotta have faith brother
Alpachian American lmao I mean UA-cam Karen……Doubt he’s gonna drive it 60 mph down the road if that were true all kinds of red necks would be doing it. Looks like something that would be in a parade like a float. This is just content he’s making, he’s already got a final plan.
This is so freaking cool Jimmy 😎
Nice little touch was leaving the "yolk" in place to serve as the steering wheel 💯😏
Glad you liked it!
Looking at this again...I reiterate that Jimmy's brain has left the building. This jet should have been restored and put on static display. It's a shame its been been deconstructed to this level...real shame.
It was trash to begin with. Should never have bought it
Love to see my sheriff on here. My sons are 2 of his deputies as well.
I love the show but that's the dumbest thing I have ever seen! 🤣
Stick to aeroplanes jimmy. That's what we subscribe for.
Well, Happy you made it to the shop to add the cover the Chassis. I couldnt help laugh seeing the grounded plane, drive by the camera on the road. ❤😂
