Hi Jimmy, I was watching your video about the 310 from southern California, I worked with the mechanic at Brown Field in San Diego in the early 80s. It was quite a suprise to see him after all these years. other than the graying hair, he looks the same. If you talk to him again , tell him Mike the lineman at Border Areo said Hi.

I think this is the key. I mean, that tail number! This looks like a far better platform to work on. The barn plane is too far gone. This one, however.... Love the content, keep 'em coming!
I don't get how this saves you that much money. The big expenses on the other plane were the engines needing a $20,000 check and replace overhaul each (same engines here, still need an overhaul) and new cockpit instruments/avionics (which you're still going to want to do, since you were talking about an $80,000 setup or something for the original 310). The sheet metal work was a relatively small part of the financial picture you were painting. I suppose there's significant time savings by way of not having the wiring butchered and having an interior for the thing, but it's up to you if that's worth the added expense.
One of the video you said you’re in the Air Force reserve what do you do in the Air Force keep up the good work and thank you for the brilliant content
411? Nice, rarer then the ubiquitous 410. Plus weather radar scope. Didn't know you can swap straight to swept tail on the 310s, though straight tail looks better to me somehow, probably also because of the old and rare factor. There are way more newer 310/320s, so also way more swept tails flying around.
@@karaayers2867 Straight out swept tail rudder authority can be the same, because you do move the center of lift for the rudder backwards, thereby increasing the moment arm. Advantage is, then you can reduce the surface area of the tail and rudder a little in turn to get the same aerodynamics, but the internal design of the tail gets more complex and potentially heavier, though as one can see by the proliferation of swept tails over the past 60 or so years, that issue isn't really as much as an issue anymore, to miss out on the advantages of a swept tail. So might help a little with crosswinds, as the area impacted is a tad smaller, though you do still have usually the same moment arm.

Is that a plastic part under the center shaft nut on the turbo you showed? It looks cracked in half. If so, it may blow apart on spin up and the turbo may ingest it. You may want to take a look at this before firing it up. Check video at 36:14.
Jimmy I had a 411, the thing that made me nervous is the smaller tail section than the 421.. if you have an engine loss, what it takes to hold that together is tough. That’s why I believe they made the 421 with a larger tail section.
There's only about six flyable 411's left in the country. Yeah, they have a stellar record when it comes to lawsuits. Cessna was advised to buy the back and crush them as that would be cheaper than the potential lawsuit exposure. I would call Cessna and tell them I'm about to get one flying unless they make me a smoking deal on a 182, lol. Not that the 411's are bad planes, just old maintenance nightmares.
Jimmy, A quick search of Barnstormers shows a 1968 310N in Santa Ana, California you should look at quickly. It has always been hangared, has 100 SMOH both sides, IFR, ready to fly at $140K. Boots probably need to be replaced so negotiate. Add up your expenses of combining two older ones to this one. What does your calculator say?
411 engines are super expensive to overhaul if you can even find someone to do it. There was a time when no insurance company would insure the 411. They were a dangerous airplane. Then the VG’s came out and that helped. They increased the horsepower and added a much bigger tail which helped the safety. Then they added pressurization and called it the 421.
Watching Jimmys World where he said he was going to California to see an old 310. I’m watching and from flying drones and lots of photography the background just look familiar. So I go on google earth to my little rural air strip and can you believe it, there is the old 310 just sitting there. Well Jimmy, welcome to the low desert.
James, I have all the confidence in the world in your ability, this is great but deep down I think you have bumped your head. Keep up the great job. Cheers from Jacksonville Florida 🌞

I watched this video again and this time noticed the heart felt determination you have with the original 310. Best wishes hope my previous jokes weren’t taken seriously. Best wishes
1:31 The device you showcased is actually an ozone generator - something which you should not use in any inhabited space while there are people in it as it is known to damage lung tissue with sustained exposure and in the shorter term may lead to sore throat, shortness of breath, coughing, and chest pain. In short for anyone reading DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT OR OTHERS LIKE IT WHILE YOU ARE IN PROXIMITY TO IT. Also ozone can damage many materials especially Neoprene, plastics, rubber, fabrics, and vinyls (this includes insulation on most wires).
Jimmy im no airplane mechanic but i have been wrenching for 30 plus years. check your valve seals and guides. the seals will dry out sitting and when you resart an old engine they can crumble. valve seals would allow oil to enter the cylinders while sitting. could be a cheap fix for the 310 engines.
Just watched the Blancolirio channel and Juan Brown was showing the annual inspection of the landing gear for his 310B Harvey. He gave a shout out to you Jimmy and the save the 310 project.

If the visual damage to the vertical stab and rudder as shown is as bad as it appears, I wouldn’t fly it even around the pattern without changing it out to either the D series or another straight series one.
There used to be a 310 with a very similar tail number out of Cable Airport In Upland. The guy that owned it was great. Had little Mighty Mouse decals on the fuselage.

Boots probably need to be replaced so negotiate. Add up your expenses of combining two older ones to this one. What does your calculator say?
I think you missed the point of this channel.
@@cgtbrad What, how to make a small fortune in aviation...start with a big one?
@@i.r.wayright1457 It would be a pretty boring channel if Jimmy just went out and bought one $150k airplane...
@@cgtbrad What is his stated purpose for having an airworthy 310? Well then.......?
Fix the Aztec, forget the C 310 and 411, both are money pit troubles. I have been there before. Love your channel always.
Save that Luscombe!
When the camera wasn't rolling, We did check that one out. lol
How was it?
also 310mm has been sitting there like that for close to 30 years
Very exciting potential buy. Hope you can get them and save the 310. That tail number is a sign!
Get after it Big Jim. It's gonna make you a legend...310 fever.
One great thing about visiting California! You get to LEAVE!!!
So true! hahahaha
Well Jimmy, welcome to the low desert.
oh Jimmmy awesome tail number haha . ive never painted a plane before wish I was close so i could have that opportunity.
Ya gotta do what ya gotta do ! And that guy knows his stuff !
James, I have all the confidence in the world in your ability, this is great but deep down I think you have bumped your head. Keep up the great job. Cheers from Jacksonville Florida 🌞
I am impressed I believe this project will be much more satisfying for you(and me!) plus we get to see some flying! excellent Jimmy keep em coming, please!
24:40 Why is the Fasten Seat Belts sign backwards?
Great general aviation history. The Best years. Your videos are fantastic.
Oh man Jimmy we better be along for the whole time on this misson. This could be the greatest ride yet!!!!!
I watched this video again and this time noticed the heart felt determination you have with the original 310. Best wishes hope my previous jokes weren’t taken seriously. Best wishes
Ok. Now, after watching your last video 3 times….loved it. An old saying comes to mind…”When you get to the bottom of the hole, stop digging”.
Go for it Alice, you are already so far down the rabbit hole you have finish the journey to see the Queen of Hearts. LOL!
Jimmy,
Go for it ! Save the 310 !!!
@22:04 That's not dust Jimmy!!! Haha love your videos, keep them coming.
Dang!! Jimmy was right in our backyard!! We shoot all of our videos at the RC field that is just East of the base leg for Redlands.
The original 310 has all of the toys you need for N310MM. I say GO FOR IT.
I knew it!
I did a search for Cessna 310's in California when you gave your hint. When I saw that tail number, I knew just what was happening!
same here: my old comment at the time buried away way down.
All I can say is wow..!! I was impressed with that last one in the video...!!
Ah Jimmy ... made a trip out the I.E. of SoCal? That place was one of my favs to visit when going to Hangar 24.
Best channel around to see the secret life of the 310. Awesome.
Just watched the Blancolirio channel and Juan Brown was showing the annual inspection of the landing gear for his 310B Harvey. He gave a shout out to you Jimmy and the save the 310 project.
Heck YEAH with a sponsor Jimmy!! #SAVETHE310
The twin 411 turbo back in the day apparently was a chick magnet 🧲. Deep clean that interior. Looking for to seeing this plane fly again. Good luck sir!
21:26 OMG you went for it RIGHT???
omg JIMMY be PIMPIN NOW :) !!!! :)
the compass is filled with Ethanol so it will not freeze or slow down in the cold, I am retired Manned submersible pilot and ROV pilot, a few years back we were working on a shipwreck that was sunk in 1942 by 2 torpedo's from u509 sunk in 800 feet of water the blast blew the upper pilot house off we located the ships compass upside down in the silt upon recovery the compass was still full and working after 75 years at the bottom
Down under is with you all the way Jimmy
Yessssss!!!!!! The day I’ve been waiting for! I’ve been thinking for months that you need to buy that 310 and that tail number should be yours!
Yes you are continuing down this path of broken airplanes! But that's the fun!
Jimmy, you put new tires on Mighty Mouse? Bring them out to Cali and install them on the new plane as well. Not all accidents happen while flying... some happen while still in the ground. New tires are a nice insurance policy.
my kids ask me when is Jimmy going to post another Video ! they are 8 and 6 ! luckily i have the bell always on :) thanks Jimmy keep up making bad erm keep making decisions :P
Another great video Jimmy!
Jimmy do you have a multiengine rating?
