Kibitzers...Cyril Connolly in ‘Enemies of Promise’ describes Kibitzers as ‘the embittered circle of scoffing onlookers’. Enjoying your very helpful sessions and trialling BBO. Many thanks.

Thanks Bernard for very useful session. The number of times I have said you must jump in reply to takeout doubles with 8+!
Also thanks for saying how to play with your friends online as opposed to strangers. I'll do so now with people who were supposed to be visiting us for an evening of bridge and takeaway. And my classes will be happier playing with each other than strangers. And I will tell them I will be happy to kibitz and make comments - you might like to suggest that to those still having classes, when you set up a date to play online as a 4, why not see if your teacher is around to watch and comment?

May I add two points on starting a table (BBO)? Most important, select "permission to play". If you do not, and one of you should lose connection, strangers will jump in and take the empty seat. With "permission" selected, they have to ask the table host, who can refuse. Second, if you prefer to play match points rather than IMPs, you can change the IMP button (top left). Enjoy!

Thank you Gwen. You must be right. The opponents just corrected their wrong bidding.regards.

Keep them coming, Bernard - extremely useful., as ever. RHO opens 1D; I have 15 pts, incl three diamonds, three lousy hearts, AKJx of Clubs and AKx of Spades. Would you X with that? All NV. Best wishes.

tricky, but with the ugly 4-3-3-3 shape I think you should pass and await developments.

    Hi Bernard
Thank you so much for giving these lessons to everyone. My wife and I are enjoying and learning something new every time. I just wondered if you would help us with the qplus programme. We are social players and since we can no longer play with our friends we play together using your q plus software. I have a very old program version8.5, which I must admit have not used for quite some time, but after your lessons I have started to use it again as we can now connect to another computer and play bridge together. I just wondered if you could help me change the settings in “match control” / “deal filter”. I am trying to change the software to give our hands (north/south) game going points at the moment, without success. Within the deal filter I am changing North+South TP to 27 in the right hand column, then press ok, but it does not seem to change the deals we are getting. Could you please tell me where I am going wrong. Thanks once again for the lessons and I would appreciate your help. Keep safe and well Chris Plant

Many thanks - thoroughly enjoying the seminars - unfortunately the resolution was poor - distance to travel to Scotland!!!!!!!! Someone else may have commented on this but have not trawled through all the comments. Keep up the good work!

There are ways of fiddling with resolution.
We are hoping to put up a little video about this on the site.

You said not to let your opponents at 2 level. Well I tried to interfere with 3 clubs as I had good clubs but not many points. Well the opponents jumped straight to 4 hearts as they had Singleton club. And making the contract.

Hi Garry, that's really unlucky. It sounds as if the opponents had made a mistake in the first place by only getting to the 2 level. You were absolutely right to compete at the 3 level, as it looked like a part-score hand for both pairs in their respective suits. The fact that, this time, it gave them a chance to put right their mistake and bid to game is unfortunate.
Not letting them play at the 2 level works on the vast majority of hands, this was one of the exceptions that proves the rule. The Law of Total Tricks says that 3 over 2 is the correct thing to do but it can't legislate for opps' underbidding their hand/s. Don't be put off from doing it next time. It will usually pay dividends.

I gather that you prefer to open 1H rather than 1N e.g. with 5 hearts and 12 - 14 points (Quiz 3). Is this for all strengths from AKQJT to 76543 or is there some cut-off for normal distributions within these extremes?

With BBO, can we do two tables duplicate -- we normally play with 8 people

B re BBO most will know, I assume, that they have to register before they can log in ok. I have been on BBO for a while so a heads up for when they register, their profile comes up and right next to their password dots is “other” this is where they add their playing info ie.
4 CM etc and save is at the bottom of the page they can amend at any time later, so many newbies are not doing this so when “P” or “Ops” look at their profile there is no info on their play.

Tried to register on BBO but then could not follow with login. Dont know whether there is a delay in system for this or have made an error. Anybody know the system?

I have found episodes 6 and 7 VERY difficult to hear , others were fine. Is there a reason for this or is my equipment at fault?

The first couple have been on a slightly difficult level, but I will aim to cover different levels, so hopefully you will be better placed for other videos.
