Dude this is amazing! My Mother 3 cartridge is getting a little funky and you absolutely saved the day now that I can just pick up on the ROM. Thank you for such a clear explanation!
This worked flawlessly, thank you! Is there a way to do it the opposite way? From an openFPGA ROM save to cartridge? I have played some Zelda games as ROMs and now I finally own the cartridges and would like to play on the cartridge without losing my ROM save file.
I don't think you can dump save files on a cartridge with the pocket... but i think you should be able to dump the .sav file itself to a cartridge via the GB Opertaor for example. Or any other device that can dump save files to a cart.
@@4player470 I can confirm that I was able to copy a save file from the pocket into a cartridge. All you need to do is load a save state while using the cartridge
@@RashadHashim alright thats good to know thx. Only problem i could see here would be 2nd and 3rd gen pokemon games because of the real time clock they use...
Thanks for the guide! Sadly, no matter what I try I can't seem to get this to work with my childhood copy of Legends of Zelda: The Minish Cap. However, I'm running on the newest firmware, v1.1 Beta 7. If anyone has any tips I'd love some help!
I have since managed to get my Game Boy Pokemon Blue and my translated Mother 3 saves transferred over and functioning properly though! Still can't manage to figure out Minish Cap for some reason though...
@@Ziondoodwere you ever able to figure it out with minish cap? I too am facing the same challenge. With minish cap and a few others who refuse to boot up the imported save data…
Before these core were released, I was using the Everdrive GBX7 and GBA mini for games which I did not have original cartridges. I have an Everdrive GG, but I don't have the Game Gear adapter, so I've never tested it. Personally, I had no problems. But there is a known bug with older version of the GBX7, reportedly fixed with newer releases by Krikkz (and apparently no comments by Analogue on fixing things on their side to make the older board functional). Either way, they work entirely as expected as far as I could tell. There is ONE THING that makes using these cores superior to using flash carts - that is the sleep mode. Sleep mode works with original cartridges AND with OpenFPGA cores, but NOT with flash carts. That one thing pushes me to put my flash carts on the shelf for the time being. There is one other issue, if you don't already own any flash carts, obviously they cost money (but at least manufacture in Ukraine has resumed!), whereas the OpenFPGA cores are free (and can be downloaded/installed any time). So there is that important fact as well :) Good luck!
@@RetroMythologist thank you for your insight! I subscribed. It might be easier for me to eventually buy an Everdrive and a micro SD card with stuff preinstalled. There are some online Gypsies that sell SD cards like that so I don’t have to mess around with it. I just gotta find a guy that will fix up my sega Saturn with a Terra Onion and I’ll be set.
Why not just load the memory using the core, then saving in the core? That should make a save file on your SD card, no PC needed. Or just load the memory in the core, play the game and make a new memory when you finish. If you want to play on the cart again, just load the memory when playing from the cart.
At this time, you can't use saves between carts and cores. It was a design decision perhaps to separate things. This video is clearly the only way to transfer a cart save to the device. Another tip is you can plug your pocket directly to the computer now to access the SD card.

I have saved my Lufia The Legend returns 20 year old save file thanks to this vid. Thank you so much!!
Thanks for this tutorial. I was able to backup my childhood Pokemon Blue cart before I replaced the battery.
Wish I had done this for my silver copy before battery died. :(
is it possible to drop a save file back onto the cartirdge ?
This is really helpful content. Thank you for making the Analogue Pocket for less tech savvy enthusiasts
Finally a good tutorial, thank you! I was able to use this to move save files from Delta on my iPhone to my Analogue Pocket! Saved hours of gameplay!
Hi. Can you do it the other way around? Use a rom save for the cartridge?
Yeah just go into the saves folder on your sd card
Recently tried, and did NOT work for Pokémon Emerald tho
This worked flawlessly, thank you!

Hey, I am looking for how to do this. Have you found a solution?

Super underrated I’m now your second sub :)
Ha! Thanks bud ;)
That is awesome I somehow didn't know about these.
I have a Japanese game save for final lap twin on pce and want to run that save on the English version you think this would work
This is gonna sound stupid but do everdrives work well in the Pocket? I’ve never used them before so I’m pretty ignorant to the whole process.

damn those games really do be $200 now; I wish I had kept more of them
Just pirate these 20 yo games
Sorry guys, but I’m not sure I’m understanding this properly. What are the steps I should do before being able to save from the cartridge?
There’s no way to dump the rom with the analogue pocket from a cart is there
Thank you!!!!!
🎉thumbs up bro nice tutorial.
Just tried this. Did not work.

Actually, I tried this approach first, but I could not get it to work. Which is why I looked for an alternative approach.
