Great little quick repair. I had a game boy color as a kid that had button problems. That thing was my pride and joy. After a few months of no gameplay I found a bunch of ants set up shop in the thing. It was very bad, they had built a whole nest in there. I remember crying holding the thing and not knowing what the hell to do. My dad spent a few hours taking it apart with a flat head screw driver as no one really had the triwing one and the internet wasn't really a thing yet. He cleaned all the ants out of it and even the buttons worked after that. Sounds weird but the ants setting up shop in my gameboy and my dad managing to fix it would any know how or correct tools has always been a core memory for me.
The best deal of my life was getting a lime green Gameboy Color alongside genuine copies of Pokemon Gold, Silver & Crystal in immaculate shape, all for $20. I was 7 at the time & I’m certain I will never encounter a deal like that again in my life. Fast forward 12 years later & I still have everything kept up in the excellent shape I got it all in.
Best deals of my life were getting a 3ds for £15 at a charity shop in 2018 (still no idea how that happened) and my mum getting Pokemon blue for £4 on an eBay auction in 2007

I just bought a collection in my shop, from a kid, well he’s a young adult now, but Iv known him for maybe 15 yrs or more, and he sold all his handhelds, he had every thing from the game gear, to the new 3DS, and so many games. All the Pokémon, he was a collector, but I guess just grew up and is moving on. It’s kinda sad to see it, knowing him for so long and basically we sold him everything he had. But yea, crazy collection, we gave him what he asked for in cash. It was a good deal for us and he got what he wanted.

I love Gameboys, this is why I follow you to begin with but I mostly stick around for the accent 😆 cheers from Canada, what a steal! A GBC/GBA goes for $60-100 here, and the SP depending on the model can go for $100-200 on average, and the Pokémon games for about $50. I used to see a lot more deals like this but they're becoming few and far between these days, you've really got to have your eyes peeled and be quick.
I'm over in nova scotia and those numbers are here for sure, maybe $20 less on average but they also don't show up very often. I snagged a graphite 101 for $80 two months ago but that doesn't come often lol

I refurbed my first Gameboy Colour (Lime Green) yesterday. Paid £5 for it from a charity shop. Was nearly as filthy as the yellow DMG you did Elliot and the buttons barely worked. After a deep clean it now works perfectly. It was definitely well loved as there's plenty of scratches where the cartridge goes in and a fair few scratches on the screen lens but I've got a glass one on the way for it. Also have a couple of GBA's with battery leakage that I paid £1 each for to have a go at.
Dude, James Bond 007 is such an amazing bond game. It’s as if you play as Shaun Connery with the look and the sassy/ suave dialogue. The game itself is so much fun and has a good story. An absolute Gem!

Wow Elliot, what a fantastic buy! So growing up I had a pearl pink GBA SP model AGS-101. Unfortunately I sold it, and all the games I had with it to store that ripped me off big time. Fast-forward to last year I found and bought back the same color and model GBA SP. It feels so good to have it back!
Last year I found a very rare Gameboy Advance SP (Rockstar edition) for 60€. Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that there are only 12 worldwide. It's now the holy grail of my collection and I'm so happy that I found it.
In 2016 I was on Mexico and went to a flea market, a lady wanted 200 pesos (which is about $10dollars) for 3 game boys(2 colors and 1 pockets) and over 20 games!. I just kept 1 Pokémon red which is on mint condition

Great Deal! I've been keeping an eye out for bargain out here in Thailand, picked up a japanese Warioware Twisted for £4 the other day!! I got a pretty good one last summer that was a minty tribal SP, pokemon ruby, sapphire, fake emerald, a bunch of other misc gba titles, the offical SP case and charger all for £45. Sold pokemon ruby and sapphire and made my coin back, was only interested in the SP (not that the tribal version is my thing). Anyway, great bargain hunt!

I never thought that the Gamesaves would require a battery in the cartridges because I thought it would use the battery power of the Gameboy for that. Good thing, I now it now. Will have to check on my Games too. Hope it's not too late. But I also never screwed one of the cartridges open.

I resin print things including battery covers that I design myself for things that are missing them. I use a mix of regular resin and rubber like resin and it works great for springing back into place. My guess is that the person who FDM printed your batter cover just used normal PLA and not a flexible plastic. One reason I prefer resin printing. Much more accurate, much smoother, and much easier to create the plastic consistency that I need.

My best deal on fb marketplace few years ago was dsi xl with pokemon heart gold (boxed), black & white for 15 or 20 pounds. After went home with the purchase noticed the charger port was broken but was still a bargain. Friend fixed it for me. Happy days.
Another thing to keep in mind when servicing GB/GBC games is to reflow the solder on the mask ROM. After years of cycling in and out of the Gameboy, the connections weaken and can cause the game to not boot
amazing deal. sometimes the sellers just want to get rid of it as is because there's some "parts" needed to be replaced or the condition of it is low quality. not often you see these deals come up nowadays.

Gameboy Colours are pretty expensive on eBay. Most go for at least £50 many up to £70 plus. This was an absolute steal nice job. I was lucky on Gumtree and picked up a great condition GBA with six games for £70 :).
I got an NES, Mario/Duck Hunt bundle, the zapper, 2 controllers, for $60. I found out they actually sell for $120 so I was told that I was the only one getting it for $60. I'd say that's a good deal!!
This legitimately happens. Some people don’t know the worth, or hype of old Pokémon games, and GB systems. To tell the truth, I sold yellow, and red for £5 each in 2010. When I needed money now they would be worth much more.
Cart only of those are about £20 each now. I bought a cib copy of Pokemon Yellow years ago for about £15. Nuts really considering how much it goes for now.
I've only been scammed once, and that's because I bought something from a new Facebook account, and asked them to post it to me. I was out $70, so not major money. Everything else I've bought (and I've bought literally hundreds of items) have been fine, because I pay with cash or PayPal (and I cover the fee so I get buyer protection), I test before I leave, and if I don't feel right, I don't buy. But I've heard SO many stories from people who have done the right thing and still got scammed, so perhaps I've just been lucky.
I've had a few great Marketplace buys over my short time collecting, including a woman who bought a refurbed Game Boy from me and in addition to paying full price, gave me a (non-functional, but easily repaired) transparent DMG-01, a guy who gave me a GameCube for free because the reset button was stuck down, a woman who sold me an Ice Blue Nintendo 64 for $70 AUD. Things like that are why I collect. But on the same page, I've missed out on a few amazing bargains, like someone selling the box for a Pokemon themed Game Boy Color for $10 (they drive the price of the Game Boy WAAAAAY up if you have the box), someone selling a boxed copy of Zelda DX for $20, and a bunch of other stuff.

I have found multiple stuff but my holy grail came when some lady was selling a mega drive with 22 games for £30... that was just the start. I asked if she had any other gaming items as she was doing a loft clear out at home. She then said she had a few Gameboy games, so sent me a few pictures of it all and i offered £70 for the whole lot. I pick it up and this big box was full of goodies. Like the geek I am i went home dug it all out. She told me there is a couple extra games in there i found while loading the box up. I get home and sitting inside the box was the most pristine sealed Super Mario advance 4 Gameboy advance game (PAL version) still with the Nintendo seal, not a dent or mark on it. Couldn't believe my luck that day, I ended up selling the mega drive, the mega drive games and Gameboy games close to £300 as there was some rare mega drive games in there. I went and ordered an acrylic case for the Mario sealed game and it sits along side my other personal collection. I walked away with maybe triple what i paid and a sealed Mario game.. and in her case she seemed to want to snap my hand off for the £70.

FYI: They didn't replicate the UK sticker because the sales of Yellow were #1 in the US, then #2 in Japan. And it's easier & more profitable to sell to the most buyers rather than anyone else.
I doubt you would see this but I heard you say something about running out of new things to do, and that resonated with me, because I feel like I would enjoy it just as much if you just clean gameboys. Struggling to always find something new is tedious and not really something that people expect you to do.

Small little thing you missed: The Raichu on Pokémon Red had a different OT and it was Ash. I think they traded it with that copy of Yellow you have there lol also, game companies would release the same game on different platforms and they could have wildly different gameplay back then. It's rare to see now but look at Sonic Unleashed on Wii and Xbox/PS3 if you want to see a more modern example!
aside from just the usual stuff of recycling titles between platforms, the gameboy family was in an odd situation, due to the consistent backward compatibility the previous system was always still a valid system so devs would often make a version for both the current and previous system to dip into the full market, this trend died around the time of the ds with some of the last titles to do it being gba/ds split including a few that had a degree of cross link between the two platform versions

I mean yeah, the practice of having two different games under the same name for two or more different systems was pretty common from inception of portable video games. It wasn't until the switch where portable games were guaranteed to be the same as their console counterparts (mainly because the console IS the handheld) for a long time portable games were a mixed bag, often being deleveloped by different studios but under the same title, it was a whole thing that people just accepted. So to see the same game be different between two handhelds wasnt a shock to me, a UA-camr called "exoparadigmgamer" has a great series call "X(Cross) platform" where he covers stuff just like this. I know I rejected getting the gba version of chain of memories because I thought it would be a watered down different game, but now I know it was the other way around, much like the other well known "console quality handheld games" like secret agent clank, and ratchet and clank size matters.

My dad got the entire lot for about 10$ and everything was in almost perfect condition. I also bought a game boy color at another yard sale around the same time with the game men in black. Note- I'm not a big game boy collector or enthusiast so if anyone can tell me any info about them I would appreciate it

I also found a Nintendo DS Lite for $38, hurriedly got it because it also included a bunch of GBA games and an Authentic Pokemon Diamond with a save file from 2007 and 437hrs of playtime. Sold the DS Lite for $47 and bought a metallic pink DS Lite for $15 that comes with an R4 Gold Pro and 32gb micro sd cart. sheesh.
If you're replacing those batteries, you should put a holder in there rather than another tabbed battery. Makes it much easier to replace when they're dying again another 10 years down the line.
I don't really know why you're confused that two licensed games for different platforms use the same graphics for the cover. That was a common practice. Remember that those games were meant to cash in on the success of the movie, so they usually used the movie poster for their covers.
They're very few, but in the past 6-12 months I've started seeing fake UK PAL copies of DS games popping up on eBay, so I wouldn't rely on the UK PAL ratings label being 100% guaranteed genuine anymore

for 80 pounds, I got a working gameboy color (slight bump on the edge but does nothing) and 10 games, including a japanese kirby dreamland 2 game. It also had Pokemon Gold (dead battery) and super mario deluxe!

Great little quick repair. I had a game boy color as a kid that had button problems. That thing was my pride and joy. After a few months of no gameplay I found a bunch of ants set up shop in the thing. It was very bad, they had built a whole nest in there. I remember crying holding the thing and not knowing what the hell to do. My dad spent a few hours taking it apart with a flat head screw driver as no one really had the triwing one and the internet wasn't really a thing yet. He cleaned all the ants out of it and even the buttons worked after that. Sounds weird but the ants setting up shop in my gameboy and my dad managing to fix it would any know how or correct tools has always been a core memory for me.

The best deal of my life was getting a lime green Gameboy Color alongside genuine copies of Pokemon Gold, Silver & Crystal in immaculate shape, all for $20. I was 7 at the time & I’m certain I will never encounter a deal like that again in my life. Fast forward 12 years later & I still have everything kept up in the excellent shape I got it all in.

I just bought a collection in my shop, from a kid, well he’s a young adult now, but Iv known him for maybe 15 yrs or more, and he sold all his handhelds, he had every thing from the game gear, to the new 3DS, and so many games. All the Pokémon, he was a collector, but I guess just grew up and is moving on. It’s kinda sad to see it, knowing him for so long and basically we sold him everything he had. But yea, crazy collection, we gave him what he asked for in cash. It was a good deal for us and he got what he wanted.

I love Gameboys, this is why I follow you to begin with but I mostly stick around for the accent 😆 cheers from Canada, what a steal! A GBC/GBA goes for $60-100 here, and the SP depending on the model can go for $100-200 on average, and the Pokémon games for about $50. I used to see a lot more deals like this but they're becoming few and far between these days, you've really got to have your eyes peeled and be quick.
I'm over in nova scotia and those numbers are here for sure, maybe $20 less on average but they also don't show up very often. I snagged a graphite 101 for $80 two months ago but that doesn't come often lol

I refurbed my first Gameboy Colour (Lime Green) yesterday. Paid £5 for it from a charity shop. Was nearly as filthy as the yellow DMG you did Elliot and the buttons barely worked. After a deep clean it now works perfectly. It was definitely well loved as there's plenty of scratches where the cartridge goes in and a fair few scratches on the screen lens but I've got a glass one on the way for it.
Also have a couple of GBA's with battery leakage that I paid £1 each for to have a go at.

Wow Elliot, what a fantastic buy! So growing up I had a pearl pink GBA SP model AGS-101. Unfortunately I sold it, and all the games I had with it to store that ripped me off big time. Fast-forward to last year I found and bought back the same color and model GBA SP. It feels so good to have it back!

It always hurts me remembering I sold three GB pokemon games and an original GBC for $50 back when I was a kid and needed the money. Then again, I got all of them for about $20 originally. A few years back tho I did happen to grab a lot on ebay with a GBA, GBA SP, and DS Lite for only $40

I got a pretty good one last summer that was a minty tribal SP, pokemon ruby, sapphire, fake emerald, a bunch of other misc gba titles, the offical SP case and charger all for £45.
Sold pokemon ruby and sapphire and made my coin back, was only interested in the SP (not that the tribal version is my thing).

I resin print things including battery covers that I design myself for things that are missing them. I use a mix of regular resin and rubber like resin and it works great for springing back into place. My guess is that the person who FDM printed your batter cover just used normal PLA and not a flexible plastic. One reason I prefer resin printing. Much more accurate, much smoother, and much easier to create the plastic consistency that I need.

Another thing to keep in mind when servicing GB/GBC games is to reflow the solder on the mask ROM. After years of cycling in and out of the Gameboy, the connections weaken and can cause the game to not boot
amazing deal. sometimes the sellers just want to get rid of it as is because there's some "parts" needed to be replaced or the condition of it is low quality. not often you see these deals come up nowadays.

Gameboy Colours are pretty expensive on eBay. Most go for at least £50 many up to £70 plus. This was an absolute steal nice job. I was lucky on Gumtree and picked up a great condition GBA with six games for £70 :).

To tell the truth, I sold yellow, and red for £5 each in 2010. When I needed money now they would be worth much more.
Cart only of those are about £20 each now. I bought a cib copy of Pokemon Yellow years ago for about £15. Nuts really considering how much it goes for now.

I've only been scammed once, and that's because I bought something from a new Facebook account, and asked them to post it to me. I was out $70, so not major money. Everything else I've bought (and I've bought literally hundreds of items) have been fine, because I pay with cash or PayPal (and I cover the fee so I get buyer protection), I test before I leave, and if I don't feel right, I don't buy.
But I've heard SO many stories from people who have done the right thing and still got scammed, so perhaps I've just been lucky.
I've had a few great Marketplace buys over my short time collecting, including a woman who bought a refurbed Game Boy from me and in addition to paying full price, gave me a (non-functional, but easily repaired) transparent DMG-01, a guy who gave me a GameCube for free because the reset button was stuck down, a woman who sold me an Ice Blue Nintendo 64 for $70 AUD.
Things like that are why I collect.
But on the same page, I've missed out on a few amazing bargains, like someone selling the box for a Pokemon themed Game Boy Color for $10 (they drive the price of the Game Boy WAAAAAY up if you have the box), someone selling a boxed copy of Zelda DX for $20, and a bunch of other stuff.
You can definitely expect the battery cover to fit properly from a 3d printed part. Precise fittings is what 3d printing is for.

I have found multiple stuff but my holy grail came when some lady was selling a mega drive with 22 games for £30... that was just the start. I asked if she had any other gaming items as she was doing a loft clear out at home. She then said she had a few Gameboy games, so sent me a few pictures of it all and i offered £70 for the whole lot. I pick it up and this big box was full of goodies. Like the geek I am i went home dug it all out. She told me there is a couple extra games in there i found while loading the box up. I get home and sitting inside the box was the most pristine sealed Super Mario advance 4 Gameboy advance game (PAL version) still with the Nintendo seal, not a dent or mark on it. Couldn't believe my luck that day, I ended up selling the mega drive, the mega drive games and Gameboy games close to £300 as there was some rare mega drive games in there. I went and ordered an acrylic case for the Mario sealed game and it sits along side my other personal collection. I walked away with maybe triple what i paid and a sealed Mario game.. and in her case she seemed to want to snap my hand off for the £70.

So it's not surprising an ESRB rated american game could pop up in europe.

Small little thing you missed: The Raichu on Pokémon Red had a different OT and it was Ash. I think they traded it with that copy of Yellow you have there lol also, game companies would release the same game on different platforms and they could have wildly different gameplay back then. It's rare to see now but look at Sonic Unleashed on Wii and Xbox/PS3 if you want to see a more modern example!

aside from just the usual stuff of recycling titles between platforms, the gameboy family was in an odd situation, due to the consistent backward compatibility the previous system was always still a valid system so devs would often make a version for both the current and previous system to dip into the full market, this trend died around the time of the ds with some of the last titles to do it being gba/ds split including a few that had a degree of cross link between the two platform versions

I mean yeah, the practice of having two different games under the same name for two or more different systems was pretty common from inception of portable video games. It wasn't until the switch where portable games were guaranteed to be the same as their console counterparts (mainly because the console IS the handheld) for a long time portable games were a mixed bag, often being deleveloped by different studios but under the same title, it was a whole thing that people just accepted. So to see the same game be different between two handhelds wasnt a shock to me, a UA-camr called "exoparadigmgamer" has a great series call "X(Cross) platform" where he covers stuff just like this.
I know I rejected getting the gba version of chain of memories because I thought it would be a watered down different game, but now I know it was the other way around, much like the other well known "console quality handheld games" like secret agent clank, and ratchet and clank size matters.

When I was about nine years old I stumbled across a shoe box at a yard sale with two game boy advanced sp's (silver and red), a charger, a carrying case and a few Pokemon games (I think they were fire red, emerald, and the saphire one) with some other stuff. My dad got the entire lot for about 10$ and everything was in almost perfect condition. I also bought a game boy color at another yard sale around the same time with the game men in black.
Note- I'm not a big game boy collector or enthusiast so if anyone can tell me any info about them I would appreciate it

I also found a Nintendo DS Lite for $38, hurriedly got it because it also included a bunch of GBA games and an Authentic Pokemon Diamond with a save file from 2007 and 437hrs of playtime. Sold the DS Lite for $47 and bought a metallic pink DS Lite for $15 that comes with an R4 Gold Pro and 32gb micro sd cart. sheesh.

I don't really know why you're confused that two licensed games for different platforms use the same graphics for the cover. That was a common practice. Remember that those games were meant to cash in on the success of the movie, so they usually used the movie poster for their covers.
