My wife and I were in South Dakota a month ago. We visited Deadwood, the Black Hills, and past through many of the towns. We also visited many museums, with items found on the Custer battlefield. We saw many bison, and their little buddies the prairie dogs. It is a trip that we will never forget!
NPS annual pass does not work for parking at Mt. Rushmore. However, keep the parking stub as the $10 auto fee is good for the entire year. So you can go early, explore other areas of the Black Hills, then return to Rushmore for the evening memorial lighting program using your original parking stub to scan in at the entrance (below where you’d get a new ticket).

Black Hills is our families happy place!
In terms of natural beauty, Spearfish Canyon should be near or at the top of this list, and Lake Paktola is drop dead gorgeous as well.
I have them noted for the next trip there! Thank you

A suggestion if your planning on visiting other National Parks buy a pass Then you won't have to pay for parking at Rushmore
Good to know, I wonder if we double paid, because we have the annual pass

Another place to go is go to the national music museum in vermillion south dakota
crazy horse and his band of warriors would have explored these areas and hunted bison back in the day.
Such a crazy thought haha, thanks for watching!
I grew up in the Black Hills and, at age 71, I'm old enough to remember when some of these attractions were free. Sigh...
Sorry to hear that, but I imagine you have some great memories in these places!
Deadwood!
Currently Wind Cave elevators are down, so there are no tours.
Good to know, thank you!
It's insane that people put themselves into those horrifying situations ON PURPOSE!
