    All these people telling a Williams F1 developement driver how to drive. Yes, it's a manual transmission but that does not mean that it has anything in common with your Corsa's manual transmission..

      @@jorge_781 you understand its a dog box? An old tech one at that not quite like the gear grinds grinds you get on modern dog boxes. In short unless you are really buzzing the engine and changing gear like you hate the thing its not going to happen in a hurry. Like Niklas stated its not like the gearbox in your Corsa.

      @@jorge_781 why did you decide to double down on your stupidity? If you knew half a thing about the engineering of these cars or in fact engineering of cars in general you would understand for how he's driving the car those are some fairly slick gearchanges. These gearboxes do not have synchronisers as a result the faster the input shaft is turning and the faster they can bang it into gear the better it will change. Your average daily commuter will get it into gear. After grinding 10 shades of crap out the edges of the dog teeth. You included.

    For everyone complaining about the shifting:
    These engine/transmission combinations are designed to shift quickly. Shifting quickly involves going full-throttle and no clutch... which he obviously doesn't want to do. Shifting at part-throttle means the revs fall a lot, and the engine braking could lock the wheels very easily.
    So he rev matches between shifting, which is why it takes him longer.
    Presumably there's no revving between shifts because he's not blipping, but he's not letting completely off the throttle either, to maintain the RPM.

    I went there a few years ago. The Goodwood Festival of Speed event is just incredible. You can just stand there at the paddock area, stare at F1 cars cruising right next to you, with no barriers or security personnel between you and the cars. You can spend hours and hours walking around the fields, see old and new F1, rally cars, supercars etc, be amazed again and again, and when you leave, you have got such an overdose of dream cars so that you won't even notice if there is a Ferrari 458 on the parking lot next to your local grocery store.

    Those were the days, when you had to use a clutch & gearstick to change gear.That's a literally mouthwatering collection of superbikes and F1 cars parked up as he comes round the loop at the end of the run, isn't it.

    • @unfortunately_fortunate2000
      @unfortunately_fortunate2000 2 роки тому

      you didn't use the clutch on the way up during the race for a lot of F1 cars, ever since the 60s and the widespread introduction of synchro's and the tech enabled it the dominate technique was rev match on the way up & heel-toe on the way down, of course it's a race and things happen that force you to use the clutch but it was often done with out.
      especially given how much the cars of this era moved around and the lack of 3rd springs as well as how aero sensitive they were/are, when the clutch is getting that little bit of slip while the wheels are starting to get power with the aero loading up the suspension while exiting a corner, that can and will send you into a spin if you're not careful whereas if with rev matching you can still upset the car however you can manage the car's response a bit more easily.
      if you watch the 1990 US or Japanese GP's you can hear them going around barely ever using the clutch for the entire race, for a full eargasm check out Senna's onboards from suzuka in 89, V12 goodness with some wicked transmission and engine sounds down the straights.

      It's where the camera on F1 cars have been mounted since 1997, before that it was mounted on side of the airbox on F1 cars. If you've seen driver camera's like they've tried on IndyCars the driver's jerky head movements make the video really hard to watch. With a camera mounted on top of the airbox you can see the front wheel and the front wing and actually have a better view than the driver does.
