I'm Brazilian and my uncle had a butternut yellow 1966 Chevelle Malibu in exceptional condition. He acquired the vehicle around 1971 and sold it in the 90s. I really miss that wonderful classic V8.
I bought a 66 Malibu two door hardtop in 1968. It was $1,600 in like new condition. $33/month payments. It had the 327, 4 speed, and the optional bucket seats and center console.
I bought my Malibu 327 in 1970 $ 750.00, 70k miles, bench seat ,4 speed. Currently in storage
@@johnbasile1609 my dad bought a new 66 Malibu hardtop (midnight blue over light blue) 283/3 on the tree. When he traded it for a mercury montego ibought mine.

First car in 2004 was 66 Chevelle 300 230 six and three speed. Dad bought it in 94. 2024 still have it runs great you can't kill a inline 6
I agree, they are long-lasting, reliable engines. I have a 230 six in a Nova. It's not a powerhouse, but it gets the job done.
In order to secure six decades of cheaper insurance premiums and lower fuel bills, I will take a two-tone Malibu wagon with a 2 barrel 283 engine, limited slip differential and 4 speed transmission. If upgraded suspension and cooling are available, I will take those as well 😁
few ordered them that way did see a 66 bel air wagon 327 4speed
I don't know if anyone else caught this but the 1966 Chevelle SS396 came with a 325hp, a 360hp and the 375hp. This individual stated that the 66 came with the 350hp, the 360hp was only available in 1966, the 1967 came with the 350hp option. I know this because my Uncle bought a new Chevelle in Danville,VA, got shipped off to Vietnam and never saw it again because his wife totaled the car while he was gone. That was the fast car I ever sat in.
As I've been uploading these old training films I've noted lots of errors and omissions in the information presented. I think it's usually because these videos were produced before the cars went into full production.
First car I can remember my family having was an already-old '66 Chevelle Malibu 4 door (post) sedan. Maroon with beige interior, white stripes and dog dishes, probably a 283 and PG but I was 4 when it went to the junkyard from rust. Replacement was dad's '74 and '79 GMC work pickups and then an '86 Plymouth Horizon (that I learned to drive on).
Mid-size cars were gaining popularity by the mid-1960s... but their sales were still much smaller than full-size cars. Most new car customers then desired the status of a bigger car. However, the two oil shocks in 1973 and 1979 resulted in more customers permanently ditching their big cars for mid-size cars. By the 1980s the sales of big Chevrolets and Fords had significantly dropped.

The 1966 Chevelle was, for me, the best model produced. I once owned a base model 300 2 door with 327/275 hp. I still miss it! Also in the '66 lineup, was a model 300 (not deluxe) convertible, not shown in this promo video.

The '66 Chevelle, for me personally, resonated as the perfect mid-sized sedan with its symmetry lines, styling, size, and the engine options. The '64 model year comes in second with preference.
The 1965 and '67 model years did nothing for me. Likewise for the '68 model year, as the sloping rear roof seemed odd.
68 was the Best

didnt say anything abought the 375 hp in the 66
original owner of my 66 Chevelle SS 396 said he had to special order the 375 hp 396 with the M22 4 speed
The 375 HP was not originally offered. It debuted several months after original debut of the 1966 model year. I was going to purchase the 360 HP, but found out they were offering the 375HP and purchased that one. It was a much beefier engine. A beast!
You can tell that this was produced before production began as there wasn't any mention of the L-78 , 396/375 or the L-79 , 327/350hp options . Personally I would like a Lemonwood yellow SS 396/375 sport coupe with the black bucket seat interior , M22 Muncie four speed and 4:11 posi , Soft Ray tinted glass and radio delete .
I wondered if the 375hp 396 wasn’t available at the very beginning of the model year and therefore not mentioned? The L79 was available in the ‘65 and returned in ‘67 and ‘68 but slightly revised and rated at 325hp. Too bad it wasn’t offered in the ‘66 Chevelle.
@@TheSteeleGarage either wasn't available or the green light was given for the 375hp. engine and there wasn't time to change the promotional material except as an update that we haven't seen .
Why not AM/FM radio?
@@Johnnycdrums because my intent would have been to go drag racing and A ; the radio would have been nothing but unnecessary dead weight, and B; hard as it may be for you to believe AM-FM wasn't always available back then .That was reserved for top of the line models like Impala and Caprice .

I have Three 1966 Chevelle Cars ,
2 are True 138 Super Sport cars and one is a 136 Malibu ,
The 2 Super Sport cars both have built
327 engines pushing the 600hp range and 4 speed trans with 12 bolt posi rear end .
The 66 Malibu has a 1971 small block
LT1 350 with 4 bolt main block, headers and Holley 750cfm carb making 375hp and 4 speed trans,
It's my daily driver !
