if you can find one rust free, then grab a work truck at auction and transfer over the drivetrain and AC and some used speed parts, you can beat the heck out of a new lease car.
Great show. Really enjoy the builds. So many cool junker cars that you just can't get down here... but I do wish Freiburger would wear some better foot protection when he works on the cars.
GREAT VIDEO DAVID AND STEVE. HOT RODDING DOES NOT HAVE TO BE EXPENSIVE. HOT RODDING IS ABOUT USING YOUR RESOURCES TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY. JUNKYARDS AND SWAPMEETS.
Loved to see it raise its rear on the first burnout--that's what you want for a good launch, not a squat. Second, that switch pitch torque converter was such a great idea, I can't believe GM didn't continue it. They needed it with their 2 speed automatic with a 1.48 first gear multiplication. Stand on the gas, and stall speed went from 1,800 RPM to somewhere around 3,300 RPM. I have one with a manual switch, in between a THM400 and a 461 cid Olds with variable duration lifters. That thing can pull off the line in third gear (manual valve body) and get 15mpg in a 4-4-2 with a 3:1 rear axle ratio, or I change the stall speed and bang it into First and go to 60mph in 5 and a half seconds. Nowadays, you have 4 speed automatics with steep first gears and lockup torque converters. But back in the muscle car days when GM was handicapped with a 400 cid limit? That switch pitch torque converter would have made a difference on some of their muscle car options. As for the best 455, the problem was none were offered in a truck, so you can't just grab heavy duty parts cheap in the junkyard--unless there's a FWD GM motorhome, and then there's a Toronado 455 under the hood with a forged crank. The Buick's advantage was if you knew how to drill the head for the Stage 1 valves, otherwise its light weight was a double -edged sword--not a lot of strength if you were going to go nuts with boost. The Pontiac 455 had a lot of cheap torque potential, once you got past the Armasteel connecting rods. Find some 6X or 1971 2bbl 96 heads, stab in a Ram Air cam, and the stock cast exhaust manifolds even had a header design to them rather than the terrible log style on some luxury cars.
Albert Gaspar. good info, thanks for sharing...my 455 street strip Pontiac had so much bottom end in my '65 GTO with its narrow rear wheel wells that hooking up at the strip sometimes happened, sometimes didn't. i have dialed the bottom end back on this latest build. take care
well well well good to see ole friedburgler and doli again.missed you fellas. oh and the beard???? guy anywho was good episode.would be nice to see more of this fine show on utube again but ofcourse motrend has to make money so i guess i wont cuz i dont have money either but thanks for the post.maybe one day you will remember all the folks that made you popular by word of mouth and treat them to some more of this good ole roadkill vid all the best you guys ;)
From what I remember I saw you guys driving that car on the road some where between the Ohio turnpike and Pennsylvania maybe, me and my wife were going to D.C. from Michigan and out of nowhere you appear with your Roadkill logo across the back window in white letters and then I look to see who’s driving and I saw the one in the ball 🧢 cap then I said wow! It’s the guys from roadkill and my wife turns and looks as if she knew what I was talking about and like that you were gone, it was around June 16th 2018 and I hate that I’ll never know if I really saw you guys or not. It’s weird that from seeing y’all on UA-cam made me feel like I saw friends from school. It’s a good thing you didn’t pull into a gas station because you’d be going who the heck is this guy 😳 but I love the show
You guy from Roadkill are top notch, I enjoy your show, the 66 Chevelle 4 door is sometime I have been looking for a long time can't never seem to find one worth restoring! Any tips?
That’s kind of rude you know but I still loveRoadkill it’s still a good video to learn about stuff like you know if you buy a car from a junkyard you know how to fix it up because I Roku so that’s why I love roadkill and there might be a missed type
Steve is a "mechanic" Friebuger is a "technician". Those of us that dont just turn wrenches or just throw parts on but actually understand the physics and engineering of all the components of the vehicle and know how to rebuild and diagnose are technicians. Everybody else is a mechanic
All the fans that Roadkill/ Motortrend lost went over to Hoonigan. So far so good there. I just hope that Hoonigan doesn't go the same route these guys went.
It is very hard to find 2 door cars new or used any longer, and the younger generation are doing a lot with 4 door cars..... The other tough thing to find is anything with manual transmissions any more.
I don't know if you guys still answer questions on this build but, here it goes. Hope yas do! You guys replaced the wheels and tires with that nice new set, can we have the specs on that new set of wheels and tires, please??
Wont be long before guys are converting the 4 door family cars into 2 door musscle cars. Ive see a few guys convert the 4 door 55 to 57 chevys in to 2 doors with new reproduction sheet metal and donor cars.
It won't be on YT ever again. Motortrend is greedy AF and they want people to pay for their channel in order for people to be able to see Roadkill and other shows like Dirt every day that used to have free episodes on YT.
Question from the UK - is that Buick 455 engine the same as was fitted to Kojak's Buick Century, which I noticed had a "Stage 1" badge on the boot and on the wings at one time?
If a person were doing bodywork and a paint job on that, it wouldn't be too much trouble to Weld and Smooth amd move things a little to turn that into a 2 door. It wouldn't be an entirely accurate 2 door, but close. Leave the door handles on the inside back area to drive passengers crazy
My uncle has a yellow Buick wildcat in his yard, if he didn’t have legit wildcats living in it I’d love to restore it. But they ain’t even that nice looking 😂
Power and ground to the HEI it has the coil on top and terminals in the cap. A yellow and a black, dont use the brown it's for the tach. Funny these are becoming a thing of the past. If you are lost say you are lost and leave it to others.
brig back Roadkill to UA-cam
Roadkill is currently in the brig sailor.
I agree, hurt when they left! I just started my channel where I take trucks up into the bush and wreck em. Maybe I can make a few folks laugh.
Finally something worth watching!! Nostalgia here we go!!

4 door muscle cars where pretty common & popular in Australia back in the day 🙂. The Chevelle looks nice 👍

4-doors are cool
ive never had an issue dropping in a big cap hei.
You can’t beat the torque of a 455 but you do need to watch that oil pressure and rpm redline.
Cut out the center and make it a 2 door. With 2 1/2 feet shorter, it could do badass wheel-stands.
Its amazing u can get these 4 doors for cheap whitch is the same car pretty much as the 2 door and its the same car
