Pinoyliga Recap: UP remains undefeated, UE's bad debut, and AdU finally gets it together

- Another weekend of Pinoyliga saw four teams in action and another team not in action hahaha. The Boleros recap the games by playing a little "Fill in the blank."

The most impressive for me is how UP seems to be a much better outside shooting team since Coach Egay joined the coaching staff. Si Lopez pa lang, 66% from deep in his last 2 games. ‘Yan talaga naging kulang sa team last season so I’m glad they’re doing something about it.
Honorable mention: Chicco Briones playing better defense, and Torculas and Abadiano playing like absolute seasoned vets.
Also just to reconcile the points made, UP is stacked in terms of quality and not quantity. Yes, UP really only has around 15 eligible and healthy players who are Team A quality (unless UP announces a few more solid recruits coming in). But quality-wise, up to the third stringers stacked talaga ang UP, and that creates the impression that UP is too stacked. I would say UST has a bigger player pool, but the difference is in quality down to the last man, gotta admit, doon talaga lamang ang UP.
Agree with the quality and not quantity observation. Their 3rd stringers could legitimately be the first 5 of another UAAP team. Sakto lang dami nila sa roster spots. Whoever are playing now are probably those that will form the S87 team plus Bayla if they get his commitment.

Agree that Briones is playing better and he’s getting burn, I believe he was the only play the b2b last weekend. Torculas and Abadiano both look like they might take a leap next season. -Maui

1) UP - In the last three games he played, Lopez is averaging 18 points and 5 rebounds. He was the player of the game in their last game with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals. He is shooting from the 3 point range at a 50% clip and is working to improve his playmaking and defense.
2) UE - Mulintapang is their new point guard and Maga is their new gunner from the 3 point area.
3) Adamson - Fransman will strengthen their frontline
4) DLSU - The guards should all step up in order to counter the guards of UP. Much as UP is working their frontline to compete vs that of DLSU. Lopez/Torculas/Stevens vs Quiambao/Policarpio/Phillips.

Russel Ogana is from Bulacan, if I’m not mistaken he got scouted sa Paralong Pambasa last 2023 and then CTR personally visited him in his home in Bulacan to finalize his recruitment. He was mythical 5 and 3 pt king during the tournament.
Hope he finds his way in the Uaap. Lasalle does need 3 point shooters to make up for nonoy, escandor, nelle and Manuel for next season. -Maui
That UE guard Mulingtapang (Brave Again) has a lot of potential. Taller than the usual UAAP guard pa. He tried out for UP and UP liked him. But since UP is practically a security agency (lots of guards 😅) and Brave Again wanted playing time (who doesnt), he ended up at UE.
Glad that he priortized playing time and the opportunity for a bigger role than everything else. Hopefully it pays off for him. Knowing Coach Jack’s system he will have a ton of opportunity to put up numbers on the board. -Maui
I wanna see DW play more as well. But, Coach Gold has his favorites!
Will probably have to fight for playing time given the depth of the back court rotation. Coach Gold will definitely go for tried and tested veterans. -Maui
Walker is a preview of what the vaunted UP perimeter defense looks like when taller and bigger guards eventually get the guard spots when th Bullpups leave. So far, so good.
I expect UE will have a rough S87 but S88, I expect them to be back conteding for a Final 4 spot. Russel Ogana is from Bulacan, he played his HS ball at JILCF in Bocaue, and CTR went to his home to personally meet and recruit him to play at DLSU. Ogana is a shooter, but in the recent games, he is starting to develop his slashing game. I hope CTR and his staff put him on the spots where he can shoot consistently.

I agree with you, guys, I think UP is working so hard right now off the court. They are not just talented, I think they are working so so hard to improve. The 3-point shooting of the players are improving. And ofc, it’s good to see terrence getting back at the rhythm.
UP is for sure a contender again. The only issue I see with them is the distribution of minutes. Every single player from 1-15 deserves minutes. Let's see how coach Gold manages it

it appears 2 injured players ng UP (coronel and gagate). not sure if andres is injured as well. haven't seen him play.
Looks like all 3 of them are injured. Gagate has been confirmed to be out for 3-6 months by Navs. -Maui

We wanted to be able to talk about all teams that suited up this weekend. Unfortunately we were not able to talk about Jacob Cortez but I do agree he was very impressive. Am interested to see though how they will utilize him and Baclaan come season 88. -Maui

He has been scrimmaging at UP for a few weeks now. Looks quite the athletic specimen but still raw.
@@rcd2005 comedy...sabi sa X na sa ADMU siya maglalaro. Even saw a post that Tab visited him in UK. All that effort only for UP to beat him again in recruitment. Seems like UP is really going after every single prospect of ADMU.
Femi Edu is fair play. He never committed to ADMU. Only those over-eager fans floated the buzz that he is headed to the Blue side already. After CTB visited him in UK his brother, AJ, posted in his IG that Femi is not yet committed to any program and still considering to play in the US. On the flip side, if Gemao goes to ADMU that would still be fair play. No commitment yet.

@@rcd2005 Well, I never mentioned that he has committed to UP already. With regard to "Seems like UP is really going after every single prospect of ADMU," it might have been possible that UP approached Femi Edu first before CTB even visited him in the UK. It is not that easy to fix schedules, arrange the logistics for his visit considering the timeline - one week after CTB's visit.
Told you, Poli will have a breakout season. If ethan Elian will be given enough time he would be a great addition to La salle. Another Kapampangan.
The only problem i see with Alian is that he can't shoot. It will be tough to play him beside KQ and Mike Phillips - Gab
The point guard slot is up for grabs. There will be a ton of opportunity and minutes available hopefully Elian can carve out a role. -Maui
