    I just wish kayang makasabay ng ibang schools sa recruitment, but it is what it is I guess. Sabi nga nila don't hate the player hate the game. I'm not just saying this because Bayla went to UP, but I had my reservations too when Kean + Jacob + Luis joined DLSU. I have a feeling UST will also be a prime destination in the coming years (especially if they change their head coach 😅). Then of course there's still Ateneo. How about the other schools? It would be nice to see a balanced league.
    Happy for Mur Alao. I also thought he would be lined up last season after his pretty impressive offseason, the roster spot of Isiah Phillips was a waste imo but I guess the original plan was to include Rhyle Melencio but he got injured so they replaced him with a tall player as well. The next one that needs to transfer from LaSalle is Buensalida. I just don't see him making the lineup again and that would be 3 years in team B. Then next year there's Melencio, Pablo and Gaspay to compete against, and whoever else they will recruit.

      Thats the reality of the situation. Even in the Ncaa in the US top tier players usually go to Kentucky (John Callipari) and Duke. Other teams will just have to build a better program suited to maximizing players availability. Remember blue chip recruits tend to go pro earlier, transfer teams and even leagues. Problem is other teams are becoming “farm” teams where they develop and get their players poached. We’ll see how this develops. The price war in today’s Uaap is unmatched it used to be only Ateneo and Lasalle who had big funding. At the end of the day what we all want is parity because that will keep the competition healthy and provide the biggest excitement. -Maui

    Can't wait for May 11, DLSU vs UP agad agad! Jacob Bayla to UP, Good for UP but gotta feel bad for the potential player who will be benched. Mur Alao, I know when the UAAP 86 lineups are released alam ko na Mur will go elsewhere for playing time. Gotta feel bad that we lost a good guard but hoping for the best for Mur in Recto.

    Grabe, crazy roster for UP. Pero feel ko Lopez will be leaving after this coming season. Alam naman natin na he’s eager to go pro. For Bayla, what I’m excited about is the potential of seeing a student-athlete na mala Bersola and Quitevis (good at both acads and sports). Nothing against those who are only good at either one, but it’s such a wow moment to see someone good at both lol. As for expectations, Bayla is clearly smart at kahit naman siguro di sabihin sa kanya, he knows na he needs to fight for his minutes (tbh anyone who joins a stacked team like UP or DLSU, I think matic alam nila yun).
    As for Mur Alao, not super surprised to see him transfer. Although DLSU’s PG slot is “open” this upcoming season with the departures of Nelle and Nonoy, maybe Mur Alao looked at S88 onwards. Kasi sa S88, papasok si Baclaan and Cortez so even if Alao got minutes in DLSU sa S87, alam niya na mawawalan siya ng minutes ulit by S88. I guess UE is a good choice for him within UAAP pero sana joined the NCAA para hindi bawas sa playing years niya yung residency. Sayang, he’ll only be able to play 2 years max.

      The best thing about Bayla’s academic inclination is that he looks to be a 4-5 year guy even though there’s a chance he’ll be pro ready in 2-3 years. Para sabay sa diploma. This also means he won’t mind playing limited minutes early on, he knows what he’s getting into, but I won’t be surprised if he’ll break out early.

    • @Kirie01
      @Kirie01 Місяць тому

      @@rcd2005 While I’m excited about the possibility of seeing someone excel both in acads and sports, I don’t necessarily think Bayla would be a guy who’ll stay 4-5 years just to get a degree if there’s a great pro opportunity on the table. As mentioned in the video, may whispers na tinigtignan siya ng KBL team/s (and I hope good opportunities do materialize for him). I’ll be glad kung mag-excel siya sa acads and sports kahit na he only plays for a couple of years before going pro. He can always come back to uni later on in life (lots of people, UP students included, already do this tho hindi for professional sports-related reasons). We also have athletes who went pro while continuing their studies such as AdU women’s vball players like Tubu (tho tbf nasa local pro league kasi sila kaya this is feasible).

    It's a good problem for UP. Sobrang deep ng Bench nila. Kahit sinong hugutin, magaling na. Marunong na. Pero ang medyo kawawa dyan is yung mga Players. Kung kayo kayo mismo ang naglalaban Para magkaroon ng spot sa roster, paano ka din mag iimprove as an athlete kung walang ibibigay na playing time. Sayang si Chico Briones if mawalan sya ng Playing Time dahil lang papasok si Bayla.
    I feel bad for Mur Alao. 2 seasons sa DLSU pero di nakapasok sa line up. Sana this time sa UE, with the Departure of Remogat and Paranada, mabigyan sya ng Minutes.

      Yes a very good problem for Up having a 16 man deep lineup. And yes you mentioned the biggrest downside but the upside is you also is you get to train with top tier talent every day. Maybe they can use that motivation to continue to get better. We’ll see how it develops but if given what happened this off season wouldnt be surprised if some of them decide to transfer in the coming years. -Maui

    A lot of people forget that Lopez is 6’6”, Torculas is 6’4”, and both are highflyers. Teams tried to post them up last year pero di naman tumalab, UP had its own mismatch in frontline speed. Manzano, Manaytay, Palacielo, Amos… all had limited success posting up the UP 4s and have only elims W against UP between all of them. DLSU won the rebounds in Game 3 because the bigger DLSU guards and wings won the long balls.
    Its clear Gold probably likes using “wing 4s” for his tactics. Nagkataon lang Tamayo and Lucero had the size to play 4 to match their perimeter skills. Kitang kita naman that Torculas and Lopez have improved their handles, laterals, and threes. What they give up in size, they more than make up for in athleticism and skill. And they aren’t exactly small too.

    • @bolerosph
      @bolerosph  Місяць тому

      I would have to disagree on this one. Teams repeatedly exploited UP's power forwards in the post. In their first loss against Ateneo, that was coach Tab's gameplan. Ballungay and Amos were given the ball in the post and they took advantage (especially because Malick was in foul trouble)
      The reason why teams don't have success posting up the power forwards was because of one man: Malick Diouf. He's such a crazy good help defender

    • @rcd2005
      @rcd2005 Місяць тому

      @@bolerosphyes, and like I said, they only have that Ateneo R1 win between them. Sure, Malick was key, but then again it wasn’t that big of a factor. In fact NU and Ateneo stopped using the tactic in the last game of the elims and the F4 respectively, because it disrupted their own team tactics. Like Ange posting up Carl and Zav in G1 of the S84 finals, the tactic worked until UP worked around it.
      On offense naman, UP took advantage of the slower perimeter defense. Kinda made the slower guys like Amos less playable than Ballungay, while for NU, Manansala became more playable than Palacielo

    • @bolerosph
      @bolerosph  Місяць тому

      Nah, they still went to it even in Round 2 and Final Four. The only difference was that Malick was not in foul trouble. I won't be surprised if teams will still post them up in the upcoming season
      Although I do have to agree that they gave/give up a lot on the defensive end in terms of quickness

    The problem of UP is the lack of depth and toughness in their frontline. That was already exposed by LaSalle last season, how much worse now that Diouf is gone. Their new FSA is so so and Alter was a disappointment last season. Belmonte seems to prefer playing in the perimeter, Gagate was very very raw and even Pablo has left. The addition of Bayla doesn't solve that and would probably just further clog the rotation in the wing and back court. From the looks of it, coach Gold would still be forced to use Lopez as a four. LaSalle, IMO, is a heavy favourite this season. Next season, if Lopez stays another year, they get Gemao on board and Jonathan Willmore pushes through, that'll be UP's season

    Jacob Bayla was not exceptional on his recent NBTC performance. He may need at least a year to adjust to UAAP play. In season 88, he will be part of the regular rotation for the frontline. Besides, Coach Gold does not normally start rookies.
    In all the Pinoyliga games, Francis Lopez has started at the small forward position with Torcullas as the power forward. He has averaged 18 points and 6 rebounds shooting 85% from the two point area and 50% from the three point area. All this in 20 minutes of play.
    From the way Coach Gold has been fielding his players in the six Pinoyliga games UP has played, he will be playing a taller line-up, with Lopez, Torcullas, Briones, Belmonte, and Walker at the forward position and Ududu, Stevens, and Alter at the center position. This is obviously directed towards the line-up of La Salle; which has an advantage at the frontline. On the other hand, the edge at the guard position goes to UP since DLSU has no proven point guard. It will be interesting to see how this develops on Saturday in the first match-up of these two teams at the Filoil arena.

      Agree, Carl. Bayla is a Season 88 and onward recruit. I don't think he'll be getting minutes especially if Lopez, Torculas, and Belmonte play more on the perimeter (although as we said, Belmonte and Briones are most in danger in ceding minutes to Bayla if ever haha)
