Mr Nawaz is brilliant, a true hero of of mankind.
Yeah. Although if this discussion takes place in Canada, Trudeau would say -don’t say mankind, say peoplekind. Jajajjajajaj
At 0:28 I was like "WTF is wrong with my sound"!
An entire interview without Al Sharpton speaking. I guess there is a first time for everything.
Good thing Ben Affleck wasn't there.
+C. Venom I think his head would explode from all the logic.
C. Venom Wish he was there so Maajid could set his dumb ass straight.
+dazza2151 hahaha, so true))
Lol..he is so childish
I wish he was there. Ben is a moron and a lousy actor.
Maajid Nawaz took this panel up a couple notches...and it was already stellar!
This panel needs Hitchens..... God I miss him
+olbear303 Dawkins is far too kind. Hitchens would have never listened to the babble from the Muslim man on the panel.
+Superman13195 I dont think either of those are morons but Maajid is right. The Islamic terrorism problem can't be solved by debates about logic and facts. Most muslims and religious people in general believe because of emotional reasons. That means we need insiders like Maajid to defuse this situation. Just "being right" doesn't change anything.
I realise it's been five years... but I see what you did there.
A great conversation, loved it. Also, I must say that Maajid was fucking rocking that suit.
mcgovern1888 Blondie would definitely agree!
I could listen to Nawaz read the phone book :
You sound like someone who enjoys intellectual nourishment.
Majid is verygood on the issue of Islamic terrorism. He is one of the few people who can articulate the difference between Islam the relgion and Islam the violent reactionary ideology. Politicians and people on the left (though not all) need to stop saying that the things ISIS and Boko Haram do have "nothing to do with Islam". Of course it does. They're just very different expressions of the same thing. That needs to be acknowledged and understood.
That's right. The way I see it, the relationship between Islamist Terrorists and regular Muslims is similar to that between regular Christians and extremist Christian anti-gay death squads in Africa (funded and promoted by American Christian organizations).
D Di P I think the whole conversation is very oversimplified and the issue is so much more nuanced then people on the left or right present it as. Islam is neither a religion of peace or a religion of war. It is a religion of people. And that’s why I like Majids viewpoint because he realises just how nuanced the whole issue is. There are many causes for Islamic terrorism and Islam is certainly one of them but also definitely not the only cause.
Lmfao @ Al Sharpton's face!
Mr Nawaz is quite fascinating. I wish he had far more influence in the Middle East.
Al Sharpton is just sitting there in the corner getting shit on from every which angle ahahaha
Haha! True! He was outclassed by this group.
+Anonymous Outclassing Al Sharpton isn't hard.
Godless Libertarian Tru dat.
I actually thought my sound failed as Micheal Moore started talking
Richard Dawkins is a very good listener. He knows when somebody has expertise in something.
Al Sharpton gave a standing ovation to Maajid.
He is making too much sense it hurts.
Far left isn't the ones branding all Muslims as one group or saying jihadis do what they do purely beucase of religion. Maajid just highlighted the comlexity of the situation and the reasons why people do what they do. The last story was a great example, he convinced a jihadi not to attack Britian by proving the Britain isn't the enemy. If the guy just wanted to "attack the west" becuase of religion that wouldn't happen.
You can tell he's full of shit when he tries to blame "black and white empirical reasoning" (6:12) for the number of terrorists on the 9/11 planes that were doctors and engineers.
He seems like a sociopath Very charming but manipulates his words to suit the audience. His biography has been torn to shreds by investigative journalists.
what an amazing panel... this discussion could have went on for hours.
seems al sharpton was a fish out of water there on that panel.
5 years late - Don't know if you're still with us, Topher, but I hope so. Not hard to make Sharpton feel that way without his writers and producers. Even with them it's iffy.
LOL coz there was nothing he can blame Racist on their conversation
@@vitatang904 True.... is he able to talk without yelling ? Just wondering...
Maajid is just fantastic
I'm starting to hate how the audience applaud after someone finishes talking.
+Enrique Godinez agree *audience claps*
+Enrique Godinez agree *audience claps*
Mr. Nawaz is pretty freaking hot and his accent is delicious!
@Hanouch1996 lol
Best of Bill Maher ... Maajid was aweaome
Naw, he's anti-science and a sociopath.
Go study, you dunce
Easily the most significant OT to date, I wish Maajid could have spoke more fully on what he touched upon.
This is a great dialogue because you have people like the Rev and Plame who are rarely exposed to such .
A fantastic Real Time and Overtime. I love when Maher has guests like these guys/gals.
Everybody loves Maajid.
I love Dawkin's tie.
"Why is that?" - asked to the guy whos probably most qualified to answer but Bill needs the applause so just keeps repeating "religion, religion" until they clap. If Maajid was allowed to speak on that question they might learn a thing or two.
9:18 i really hope this smile isnt the last thing we see from Mr. Nawaz because of the work he does and the people who hate him for it. when maher said we need 1,000 of him and dawkins patted him on the back, that made him smile hella hard. respect!
I from the future. He’s still here, but the SPLC in all their wisdom added him to their hate list. He sued. He won
This was a great panel. It's episode like this that make me wish Overtime was a proper full length programme.
Maajid Nawaz is a legend.
richard dawking is just awesome!
That Maajid Nawaz guy was one of the most interesting panel guests I've seen in a while. Wish I heard more from Dawkins, but ah well.
Al Sharptongue Looked Bewildered😅
Maajid extraordinary Nawaz. Need 1000s of them. So true
That was some truth and reality of life.
He was respectful of their opinions. Al Sharpton is a good man.
religion. Religion. RELIGION.
Maajid is quite a smart guy.
Could do with a few more like him on both sides...
he used to be an Islamist so I wouldn't go trusting everything he says , leopards and spots and all
@@bryansmith6780 He changed his ways. He's not the man he used to be.
That was a great Overtime.
One of the best Overtimes ever.
I enjoyed hearing Mr. Nawaz.
Right on!
Mate, he's from essex. 2 hours down the road from me.
The problem for me is that both Ayaan and Maajid make very valid points, the truth is somewhere in-between
thanks nawaz.
very good overtime
This analysis from Maajid Nawaz is just amazing...
Mr Nawazz speaks sense and if I was President I Woukd certainly seek his counsel. Both sides Woukd do well to seek his counsel but we all know that ain't gonna happen now ..is it ?
GET MAAJID BACK!!!!
Dawkins laughing was so cute :)
damn it would have been awesome to have heard more than one person talk during that whole thing!
Good episode.
We love you Maajid
Very interesting.
Majidd isxa top guy, still goin strong , God bless him
We must listen to and support Maajid.
LOL!! Calm down, don't get your knickers in a twist, mate!!
Michael moore looks llike peter Griffin from family guy
the blonde is nodding her head and it shows she was in agreement with whatever he was saying ... it gives out a perspective of the people present there......and that is the right editing he did.....P!
good panel :)
Someone please upload the compelte show. I cant find it out of USA.
Thanks.
Is anyone else starting to notice that discussions even from 5-10 years ago have a markedly more relaxed and trusting feel to them? Even when people disagree on controversial issues?
Something has really fucked with our minds- I blame social media.
So true. And we thought 911 changed everything! Trumpism has changed everything. Nov 2022
When the lady says to Majid "keep working on it", typical patronizing tone.
WoW! Send this Guy out on the Circuit ! Fantastic explanation of what is wrong with the Radical Youth's. Well done my Friend.
BILL, COULD YOU PLEASE EXTEND OVERTIME TO 30 MINUTES?
this panel was just to awesome to let them go so soon
9 yrs later, OT is seven minutes. But this panel was gold. Nov. 2022
perhaps, but to prevent it from pervading into govt. politics, public education and social policy is vital.
As an 18 year old in Oklahoma “the bible belt” I can confirm most people my age don’t give a hoot about religion.
Yeah, he seems like a ray of hope from the heavens even for an atheist! LOL
I was really glad with Bills closing statement! too!
i actually went for the volume bar for a split second
What happened to The sound when Michael Moore try to say something
Maajid stole the show
11 states have now legalised weed so bills point is mute
nevermind the last bit!
thats the exact same thing i thought.
I agree with you. Sharpton is great on MSNBC and he rarely if ever interjects his religion into the discussion.
Funny how you cannot indict dead people isn't it?
If I was in my 60's and was religious I too would not acknowledge that it is a load of shit too. To think that I got out of bed every Sunday for decades for nothing would drive me to the point of insanity.
i know he does, but when bill said his name, people were laughing, so i did not want to guess his name.
if i could smoke weed with 5 people now, bill maher and richard dawkins would be 2 of those people. great episode! i love both those guys!
Well dumbass u will get your wish, virtually. Bill will have a dawkins episode on club random. I say dumbass, which may not be fair, but i notice too many CR viewers are so desperate to party they only like the party side of loosey goosey bill. But you dont know that yet. U blast from the past. Nov. 2022
Having watched the debate that Al Sharpton had with Christopher Hitchens on the subject of religion, I can see why he would be so reluctant to argue against atheists, especially when you have such and educated one as Richard Dawkins on the panel. Hitchens, as he did to so many of his adversaries, utterly decimated Sharpton, and made him look like a child on stage. After being so thoroughly defeated, I think Sharpton has learned to be cautious around learned skeptical people.
Did I miss Al Sharpton’s convo?
What kind of tie is Dawkins wearing?? :P
That sounds reasonable enough...
Moore just repeats what the masses say.
Exodus 32:27 ". . . Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour."
Ezekiel 9:6 "Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women . . . "
Isaiah 13:16 "Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished."
he's good for making clever statements with words....not much else I think.
YE YE YE POT IS LEGAL NOW!!! WEeeoOOEOeooeoeOoOO!
Sigh..
He's not an arab...he's a Brit of Pakistani decent.
Ok cool. If we are gonna play missing-the-point, I have no intention either...later.
Fair point, but I have a hard time believing that all portrayals of Islamic society are caricatures. I think that polygamy is an issue. I have the same issue with polygamy that I do with an over-concentration of wealth. And, some may argue that polygamy is even more damaging. Polygamy creates a deficit of women which means that there are large amounts of men that will never fulfill their biological objective. These are the men that can be radicalized because they seek relevance.
I went to school with the Tsarnaevs. Bill is wrong: we all saw something bad coming with Tamerlan. He had this air about him that just wasn't right... obviously we didn't expect him to bomb the marathon, but there were PLENTY of conversations between people who had met him worrying about whether he'd commit a violent crime (not a mass attack, but domestic abuse or a violent attack on a individual or something like that), there was some speculating that he might go join up with a group overseas and become a fighter over there (similar to Jihadi John or someone). The one nobody saw it coming with who i think he's referring to was Dzhokhar because he was your average High School kid, smoked frequently, super helpful, pretty personable, very into sports he played on our hockey team and all that, he had girlfriends and rarely spoke to his friends about politics or religion and when he did, he was careful to sound like we all did (he was good at hiding his real beliefs clearly), he was nuanced when he spoke...he was only overtly radical in the way that all young angsty "liberal" activist type kids are. But that was high school. after high school shit changed.
His radicalization turning to decision to act happened way quicker and less publicly than most mass violence perpetrators. There was nothing gradual over the years that anyone i know saw or red flags even looking back now. After school ended he dove in head first. If any of his friends had seen him slowly holing himself up with Tamerlan more often and going out doing his usual stuff less, it would have been a red flag, but it kinda just suddenly was like nobody really saw him. Clearly he was getting more devoted to his views but it didn't happen in a visible way bc we weren't in contact anymore, like typical post-HS losing touch type of thing...i have to ask some people who had been in touch if they'd noticed when exactly things changed.
Oh I see where our misunderstanding comes from. For me, this was never a debate about religion, it was only and exclusively a matter of the appropriateness of the terms you used in your original and fairly popular comment and the implied conclusion that judging historical figures out of their historical context is a valid way to view them. My criticism of your use of the term comes more from the fact that I think it is unnecessarily incendiary and historically inadequate.
I like this brown guy!
9:17, that's all Nawaz ever wanted
Not gonna lie, I'm an atheist, but I admire Maajid's deep analysis of Islam and terrorism. I don't like to believe I have the answers, and I know that social issues are very complicated and intersectional, and so I have wondered of the link between religion and terrorism, for example, and I would love to hear what he has to say in detail and contrast that to some of the ideas Hitchens and those like him have proposed which I believe to be likely to be correct as well.
Nawaz is a stud.
So it's the "us versus them" mentality. Scary.
This was another great overtime, although it was funny how Al Sharpton didn't want to say anything, I wonder if he feels uncomfortable about talking about religion with atheists?
hahah fucking Al Sharpton's face when Dawkins speaks
Al SHarptons Face
