    Congratulations!!! Worked for us - my husband and I have been married for over 10 years! Got engaged after knowing each other a few weeks. Wed at the courthouse and had a nice dinner/evening after for a total of around $330. Since we had student loan debt of over $150,000 at the time, it was certainly a practical decision. (PS: We are now debt free!)

    Man bunz… I wish I still had enough hair! We went traditional 20 years ago and nearly caused me to run away because the outlaws planned everything and I got no say at all... Straight down to the shoes I bought... Beautiful video and wishing you both the very best. If I'd do it over... It'd be elop for me 🙂

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I just listened to a super interesting podcast from Seth Godin (he's amazing in general) but it was about the wedding industrial complex and well I am stoked to say we avoided it and saved our money.

    That is so exciting congratulations!! Beautiful wedding video! I think eloping makes that moment more special in a way because it is a private intimate moment between a couple. we ended up having 2 very small weddings in one week I wanted to Elope but didn't want an angry family.

    • @NicksFort
      @NicksFort  5 років тому

      totally understand that approach Anna. After we eloped we went back to New England and visited our family (it was like like 2 months later) and we did a little backyard ceremony (this was more like a bbq/potluck that involved zero costs) and that made things work well. We are also thinking about having a "reception" next summer, but basically a big party at a brewery, super casual, no gifts, etc. but the elopement was lovely and intimate and PERFECT :)

    That was a beautiful vlog, very personal and cinematic at the same time. I’m not sure why you call it eloping since you didn’t runaway from the near and dear. I’d call it untraditional marriage. Eloping as I understand is when you run away with the bride because of opposition from your people.
    The video was also a film making tutorial. The overhead shot while writing down points was brilliant. Your videographer friend did an excellent job! Would you share your filmmaking gear in a future video? I would like to know what light you use, it’s just perfect.

    • @NicksFort
      @NicksFort  5 років тому +3

      Thanks Ijaz! I think the part that makes it Eloping (defined as run away secretly in order to get married, especially without parental consent) was that we didn't tell anyone that we were doing this...we just did it in secret 😀 And I should do a video about my gear! I will do that for sure, but for now you can see all my gear in my descriptions for my videos (it's further down and includes my lighting setup in detail) but for now here are a few of the links: Aputure 120D: amzn.to/2L8vkta

    Great job Nick and congrats to you and Chelsea. I agree with you probably about 70/30. I guess the 30 is one traditional aspect like having immediate framily there, but I love what and how you did it. Matching napkins?........blah!

      @NicksFort  5 років тому +1

      Hahaha thanks Ron! We did a backyard ceremony with our parents & siblings 2 months later (it was a zero cost thing more or less, like my brother in-law had flip flops on lol if that gives you an idea of the style) but we were able to have a nice ceremony with our family also to compliment this...best of both worlds maybe?

    I've been married and divorced. I want to marry again but there was so much stress at my first wedding I dont want to do any of that again. I hope my future husband is willing to elope as well. It really wasn't worth all that I out into the first wedding. It was soooo expensive and although very nice I was doing a lot to meet the needs of other people's expectations and not my own or my ex husband's. I'm glad the people enjoyed it but we could have done without nearly everything. I want to look nice, feel nice, and enjoy a beautiful day with a breathtaking outdoor view next time. Something that is intimate, passionate, and allows us to just be us. And would consider a reception afterward to celebrate with very close friends and family who want to view the video with us.

    I live in the Portland area and I was thinking this looked like the PNW. It was beautiful .... how do you find locations for eloping and the legit officiating that is required? Don't you need two witnesses? I would love to know more, but this is exquisite. I loved your vows!

    • @NicksFort
      @NicksFort  4 роки тому +2

    Honestly? Its a very good idea, as long as its planned and thought out and you guys are already engaged, i want to elope with my fiance because for one we are in our 20s and we are still not as financially stable as we would like to be and eloping would be a cost effective and not be expensive, secondly, as much as a big wedding sounds nice and memorable i dont feel like having a big one because not a lot of people would show up anyways and a big thing is that my parents are never going to see me at that traditional setting because my dad died in 2016 from stage 4 lung cancer and my mom died last year of 2018 from a sudden stroke and so for me having a traditional wedding would put a lot of pressure on me and it would honestly break my heart because my parents wouldnt be there, the only people we would need would be like 4 guests, my best friend who would be maid of honor and witness and, my fiances best man/witness, and then his grandma and his mom (his father is deceased too) and we are doing premarital counseling and btw premarital doesnt have to be religious, it can be secular as well, but premarital counseling is still a good idea, and also the beautiful things about eloping now these days is that for one it doesnt have to be that plain boring quick stop at some courthouse without beautiful moments and settings, the great thing is is you can literally elope in such beautiful sceneries whereever you want, and an elopement is basically a wedding at a honeymoon/vacation which is awesome and a huge time saver and you dont have to plan out two seperate destinations, you can just have your few witnesses be with you for 2 or 3 days and then have the ceremony and then have your witnesses go back home and then have the rest of your trip/honeymoon, and elopements are more intimate and it really is about the marriage and not just the wedding, plus you can always have an elopement party when you guys get home to all your friends and family.

    You know.. I always say I have no desire to be a wedding photographer. Too much pressure. Too many people. Too much going on. But an "elopment" photographer... hmmmm. I think I could handle that. :-)
    I wanted a costume wedding but my wife wouldn't go for it. Sometimes, ya gotta compromise.

    • @NicksFort
      @NicksFort  5 років тому +1

      Dude a costume wedding sounds EPIC! And yeah I think shooting elopements would be really cool, especially if you are working with adventurous couples (A few days after we eloped I literally fantasized about starting a little side hustle making "epic elopement" videos that would be exclusive to adventurous/outdoors couples lol) and yes compromise is super important right? I am new to marriage but it's so necessary.
