- It's the last video of 2024, so we pulled out something special from our neighbours garage and adapted it to work with a modern log splitter.
A 1952 John Deere M series with no Cat1 or Cat2 hitch so we made our own with a Split-Fire 3403 splitter with Low RPM kit. Watch the video and see how it fairs with some maple and walnut fire wood. We think it did extremely well.
Splitter specs and availability can be found on our website.

This is really cool ……. Hats off to ya. !!
Thank you!
I like how it works in both directions
I like the looks of the M with the duels, good video!
We agree, it looks great setup like that.
Works and sounds perfect !
Like the old saying whats old is new, its great to see a 72 year old piece of equipment still woking today. Marry Christmas and Happy New Yers. 👍TCT
It sure is nice to see these old machines still going strong! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Tony.
Great job! I love that old tractor! I have 50s era farmall W6..... now you've got me thinking 🤔
They’re great machines!
1:15 in today's world we don't have much use for tractors like this, lol here i am trying to get my hands on a steam tractor for sawmilling because I've helped do exactly that for a show for two years now and find it to be far superior in effectiveness than internal combustion milling, there really should be no reason a piece of machinery would or should become obsolete anymore with our cnc and 3d technology + online parts suppliers available
Nice looking old tractor, you know I love a green tractor. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
We appreciate it! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too! The tractor belongs our neighbour he did a majority of the customizations himself.
Beautiful tractor👍❤ I have a similar one.
Thanks! Its our neighbours, he did a majority of the customization on it like the dual wheels.
Nice setup 😊
Thanks for the kind words!
Never saw a splitter that split both directions. I have my Dad's JD 40u which came right after the JD M. It has three point hitch. 😼
It sure makes splitting a lot faster! 99% Split-Fire splitters are two directional.
Not to mention the amazing fuel economy of a two cylinder tractor
You can't beat it!
Looks 👍
When using PTO pump, what’s the flow and PSI used?
What size pto pump are you using? I was thinking about pulling the trigger on one and doing the same thing with a Farmall H as I have an aftermarket 3pt on it.
We sell a 12.8 GPM pump and a 17 GPM pump. This splitter has the 17 GPM, however it is being utilized as a 'low rpm pump' as the log splitter is only built for 13 GPM.
So essentially, this pump is producing around 13 GPM at 300 RPM.
The weight of the pump and hoses appear to me to be supported mostly by the pto shaft. I would find another way to support the pump so you don't break the pto. Otherwise looks great.
Its supported with the ratchet strap up top, briefly shown in the video but, we do mention it.
Im.56 years old .... i dont want or need a fast cycle time .... yours id plenty good for me
Give us a call and lets set you up with something.
I have that model splitter. I like it very much. Coincidentally, I also has a John Deere M. I currently run the splitter off my 4020 but it would be nice to mount the splitter on the M and leave it set up for the winter. I'm curious what the cost of the add-on pump and reservoir is?
We used the Low RPM PTO Pump that can be ordered thru us off our website or over the phone. The current cost of it in USD $1,150.00
The only thing you'd need to do is create a custom mount for it like we did (shown in video using a steel square bar and U-Bolts).
Hope that answers your questions. Happy splittin!
@SplitFireSalesInc yes thank you
We had a '40, next newer model from 1964 to 2008. Don't remember anything but plugs or basic maintenance. Never needed fixing. Sold for $4,000!!!
These older models were built to last! You sold it for a great price!
I HAVE A !948 j d M ,1945 JD L 1952 b AND a JD 1020
