Speaking as a black person on the Quinta dress, I understand her having it in a different colour than the super soft pink, because “dusky” colours like the one don’t always go well with darker skin tones, especially depending on the person’s undertones. They can make some of us look washed out, or ashy. I’m surprised she didn’t for an even brighter pink, like a brighter jewel tone? Those tend to really pop on our skin tones. I feel like colour wise it’s like too middle of the road to pop. But the wrinkles?! Chile I cannot with the wrinkles😮. My grandma would iron her down on the red carpet 😅. Wrinkles will never be fashion. I’d rather give up my (well loved) closet.
I think the wrinkles look better on the dusty rose because of the way the dress was cut. The wrinkles were all vertical, so it looked more intentional.
I feel like the fact that the light pink dress was much more loose, and less structured made the wrinkle "fit" better with the style. But Quinta's version is much more structured so the wrinkles just don't make sense with it. Which is sad because i actually like the cut and the fit of the dress on her. With a different fabric it would have looked chic on her. But the wrinkles just break it.
Up close the "wrinkles" were clearly more of a textured pattern and not nearly so offensive. I think these big awards shows demand a formal long dress. Tea l ength, ankle don't cut it. If you are not going floor length then a mini and it better be very formal in fabric, additions and you better own it. A lot of those Christian Dior dresses remind me when of an era most of us including me don't know of ladies dressing even for for dinner at a house where floor length isn't appropriate (and maybe shorter dress were de rigeur -now that i think of it they show wedding dresses with that Dior silhouette from yester year.
I feel so bad for Ali Wong winning an Emmy wearing that dress. Jessica Chastain’s dress immediately reminded me of the iconic lime Prada Sarah Paulson wore to the Ocean’s 8 premiere
Agree. Not many people can actually serve a look like Jessica on the carpet, but it looked incredible on her and also the confidence that she exudes made it chefs kiss ❤😊
I usually don't particularly like the corset style dresses, but Rachel Brosnahan looked absolutely fantastic. The gown was so beautiful and fitted perfectly. Taraji P Henson's gown was also absolutely gorgeous.
Jenna Ortega's dress immediately transported me to the English countryside of the Cotswolds where those flowers, called wisteria, grow everywhere, hanging off of ancient green lattices, as they grow very slowly and some are quite large. It was such a beautiful dress and I saw the English countryside reference immediately. Also, the Cotswolds are known for their prolific tea shops, so I thought the tea length also worked perfectly.
I feel so bad for Quinta having an historic win (no black woman had won in 42 years in that category) in a wrinkled dress and the biggest gag is that it was such a lovely dress otherwise. They did her so dirty 😭
The wrinkling was an intentional design choice. She also chose to wear it, so clearly she liked the dress, and could have chosen something else if it was really a problem for her. No one "did her dirty," lol.
@theprousteffect9717 I know it was intentionally wrinkly, but with that fabric as Luke said it did not work it just looks terrible, so yes her styling team did her dirty with that choice
it's truly so hideous. i just gasped at the whole thing even though it was in the preview. wrinkled fabric is never going to look cool and chic. it looks terrible no matter what imo, don't care if it's intentional. these are not intentionally ripped jeans.
I’m so mad that Quinta accepted the Emmy in a wrinkly dress 😢 This was her moment, it will be something her and her family reflect back on for the rest of her life. Honestly, her stylist needs to be fired.
I too would have loved to see her in a dress that accentuated her natural beauty and put the spotlight on her and her work. Instead, it feels like, at least visually, one tends to focus on the wrinkly dress instead of on her and her accomplishments. Maybe the stylist thought this dress would be sort of unusual and thus get her more attention? 🤔
@@roter13It's rare that this type of wrinkle effect in clothes ever looks good or intentional. It more often than not ends up looking like they didn't have the time to steam the dress.

Why am I constantly screaming through the screen at Selena's stylist?! The dress itself is beautiful, but I'm sorry, I did not like that dress on her. Erin keeps putting her in dresses that don't fit her, her bust is once again looking like the girls are gonna fall right out. Idk why she insists on making her look like an elevated Jessica Rabbit. Also what’s happening with my girl Tracee Ellis Ross? Who is doing her dirty with these outfit choices this award season?!?! As always loving the review 🙌🏼
As usual, an informative and witty summary of some of the red carpet looks. My favourite is the Rachel Brosnahan/Versace dress; the construction is amazing. But, Luke, I was distracted the whole time by your gorgeous coat!
It seems like designers and tailors could do so much better at fitting large, or even medium, busts. It feels like so little to expect of professionals, but I guess when models are expected to be more like clothes hangers than 3D humans, this can happen. Even the looks that worked were not necessarily the best fit. Versace’s busts fit super well in all their looks (not saying everyone wearing Versace was busty, just that they fit well) and it makes a huge difference!
And here I thought I was the only person to think that. Everyone knows you're pregnant. Everyone has see you in maternity clothes. The "apron" part of the dress barely covered your stomach, and didn't cover the sides. It looked crass, and I'm not a prude or pearl clutcher.

Mmmmmmm Colman Domingo bringing back brooches?! Yes please! And unisex too?! Let’s do it for fall since preppy is already happening for spring. Let’s do collegiate blazers and sweaters with the elbow patches and scratchy wool scarves worn like ascots with brooches at the center 🤤 or girls in slim black turtlenecks with bolo ties and the big CC smack dab at the clavicle. Old school JCrew safari shirts with khaki and cream midis in streamlined silhouettes, with a spider or a lizard or a snake 😍 I’m calling it now
That's a name that stuck because people didn't know the original name which is frog closure. That's what professional couture seamstresses and tailors always called them. For reference, my grandmother was a Norman Hartnell/Worth seamstress.
We like the same aesthetic. The only difference is the dress worn by Niecy Nash. I absolutely hate clothing shaped like a corset holding up the “girls.”. when busty women wear this style, it always emphasizes the overall weight of the women wearing it. I do not know any woman who advertises that she is is larger than average, especially if she is not. I know I am definitely in the minority here, but that is OK.
When I was studying Chekovian Theatre, our professor made us all, gender regardless, wear a heeled boot. It really does change your posture, and make it harder to slouch.

Agree with almost all of your thoughts on the celebrity attire. EXCEPPT to Suki Waterhouse dress. While I'm down with the celebration of skin and the baby bump (which, incidentally one doesn't have for 9 months - more like 6 otherwise the baby would be fully grown instantly) I do think that the lower part of the dress is a royal mess. It would have been so much better if the dress went straight down to the floor or was cut off (at least in the front) after the bow. That dress gets a big "NO" from me.
Actually, who needs to see something as intimate as a baby bump????? Some things should be kept private. Not cute or public domain. Cover it up and keep it to yourself.
I adore you, but for the love of fashion, please don't utter "mob wife aesthetic" again. 😅 I can't stand these month-long trends 😭 💜💜 Edit: Normally, I don't find much I like from LV, but the construction of Ayo's dress was very well done. The attention to using the construction as detail and framing is what saved it, and kept it looking more "elegance" and less "ottoman". The flowers on Jenna Ortega's dress are wisteria, which grow on trellises 😊💜 I absolutely love Jessica Chastain's dress. Finally, a Gucci I can get behind 😂. I love fun red carpet looks, and this was elegant but also fun and exciting. Love it!

I could listen to you for hours. Your knowledge of fashion history and current designers is amazing. Love looking at the clothing in a different way when you explain. Thank you for your effort and passion.
Awards season is my favourite season because we get back to back videos..and that fur is fabulous!
26:58 Taraji’s gown is snatched up and around in all the right places and it’s a gorgeous purple.
That purple was beautiful and flattering.
Great work ! Ayo’s leather dress is 3-D printed she said ! Cool.
Love how you are churning the reviews out w each red carpet.. thank you!
loved this video! btw, Ayo Edebiri's name is pronounced like 'eye-oh' 'eh-deb-er-ee'. i've just been hearing it pronounced wrong for the last couple of videos so i just wanted to let you know :)
Thank you!
I believe he is also mispronouncing haute. It's pronounced "oat".
@@bdh531 true.
It does not flatter her, please for the love of god stop.
Ikr?! The dress is fine, but it doesn't suit the shape of her body.
As soon as I saw Quinta's dress I could not wait for this video!!
Your vast fashion knowledge makes you stand apart from the rest; your content is not only entertaining but also educational 🙌🏻✨👏🏻
Wish Christian Siriano would dress Selena, he would do a much better job with her curves. Also I want to see the dog you are pet-sitting!
You keep leaving out, Pedro Pascal! The man is getting custom slings made for his injury that match his looks. We have gotten some interesting looks from him.
Am I living for how hirsute you are becoming in each of these videos with every coat YES I AM! 😂😂 some serious swings and misses I agree on this carpet, but can we just give it up for Colman Domingo! Mess me up, fun time he is serving looks every carpet🔥🔥! Jenna Ortega’s dress is giving wisteria to me but I could be wrong. Versace definitely came to play and slay!
It upsets my soul that they did my girl quinta like that
The SHOES with Quinta's dress madenthe whole thing look offensive to me. What in the Nine West were those?!
Suki Waterhouse looked ridiculous.
Exactly. The dress is hideous, a lot of her outfits she wears to events are ridiculous and extra tbh
And here I thought I was the only person to think that. Everyone knows you're pregnant. Everyone has see you in maternity clothes. The "apron" part of the dress barely covered your stomach, and didn't cover the sides. It looked crass, and I'm not a prude or pearl clutcher.
@@zethraelofteldrassil3149 I think a lot of people are scared to offer a criticism these days in case they get set on by the liberati. I'm 72 years old and don't care anymore. I think she looks ridiculous and I'm going to say so. 😊
@@snowysnowyriver Love your attitude!
I wish you would mentioned Sarah Snook in Vivienne Westwood dress…
Mmmmmmm Colman Domingo bringing back brooches?! Yes please! And unisex too?! Let’s do it for fall since preppy is already happening for spring. Let’s do collegiate blazers and sweaters with the elbow patches and scratchy wool scarves worn like ascots with brooches at the center 🤤 or girls in slim black turtlenecks with bolo ties and the big CC smack dab at the clavicle.
Old school JCrew safari shirts with khaki and cream midis in streamlined silhouettes, with a spider or a lizard or a snake 😍
I’m calling it now
There's a new vogue video where Quinta gets ready. And the dress is really bad. Hoped it was just the photos.
The wirnkle dress was a fail, despite the concept behind it.
Bella Ramsay looks like she came out of a Wes Anderson film...in a good way.
Love the video! And they’re called frog closures. Not Chinese knots lol
They are also called Chinese knot closures. I google it to double check as that's what I've always called them.
That's a name that stuck because people didn't know the original name which is frog closure. That's what professional couture seamstresses and tailors always called them. For reference, my grandmother was a Norman Hartnell/Worth seamstress.
I am loving the coat on you! thank you as always for the wonderful content
I’ve said it before on your channel… I’m not big into fashion but I AM big on history and that’s what I LOVEEEE about you
We like the same aesthetic.
Jessica Williams is giving old school Barbie. Cool! Love these classy, super feminine styles to remind us of the pending depression lol. If we’re going down, we’re going out in style baybeeeee!!!! Can’t wait to see the Hollywood Renaissance. The writers are coming back to earn that new money lol. Ion even have cable, but I’m getting it this fall. Let’s gooooo!!!
What depression. Low unemployment. Inflation has slowed. Stop putting big businesses in front of people. The inflation was caused by tremendous profits to the top 1%.
Aubrey Plaza's choice is fun and creative. It looked so good n her
Ayo looks incredible! Her best look
Also oh dear on the Emmy backdrop.. super bad -what were they thinking? Photographed so bad.
Loved your energy in the video! Great content as always ♥️
Smoking jackets are something men would wear over their clothes so they didn’t get smoke smell in their clothing.
Don’t polish it and make it shiny like legs. No body needs to see it.
Every time you mention that someone is wearing a boot, there is absolute glee on your face. So great to see that!!
Luke tells us he's pet sitting and then, in the next video, shows up in a fur coat. Hmm...😂
I adore you, but for the love of fashion, please don't utter "mob wife aesthetic" again. 😅 I can't stand these month-long trends 😭
💜💜
Edit: Normally, I don't find much I like from LV, but the construction of Ayo's dress was very well done. The attention to using the construction as detail and framing is what saved it, and kept it looking more "elegance" and less "ottoman".
The flowers on Jenna Ortega's dress are wisteria, which grow on trellises 😊💜
I absolutely love Jessica Chastain's dress. Finally, a Gucci I can get behind 😂. I love fun red carpet looks, and this was elegant but also fun and exciting. Love it!
Good spot on the wisteria!
I think Selena MUST change her stylist ASAP
I LOVE Jenna’s look so much!!!!!!
The flowers on the Dior look to be wisteria and apple blossom.
The knotted closures when I was taught to sew(decades ago) were called frogs, I’m not sure if they are called something different now, or perhaps in another area called something else
Simona’s flower dress is absolutely stunning! My favorite look of the night
that dress of Edibiri! 💥it's art and fabulous.
This look luke is serving is insane
I gotta say that your “Fashion Sense” is the Best because of your honesty but mostly because of your true knowing of FASHION HISTORY😀 you know your stuff, your designers, the trends and your channel actually gives us knowledge and reasons behind the design of many dresses and why they are made the way they are👍 Love it and Thank You🤍
I would be afraid that I would trip and impale myself with that pin.
The crinkle dress was rough. And I only saw her during the award ceremony so couldn't tell if that was intentional or not. Let's just not do a wrinkle trend though. It just looks sloppy and I wanted to jump into the screen and steam it.
It looks as if a not slim person wore it on a hot humid night and sweated into it - those kind of wrinkles. Not stylish.
The bottom half of Ali Wong's dress reminded me of some kind of 90s pyjama or slip dress fabric. Did not flow with the top at all. So random.
Where is RILEY!!!!!????? A) she showed up with Priscilla B) it’s the anniversary of Lisa Marie’s death b) she was nominated for her show c) she’s under contract with Chanel and they’re doing her dirty and I need opinions on it!!!!
I can't believe you liked Selena's dress. The lining underneath was crinkled and the sequins looked cheap. It's such a poorly constructed dress.
