Hey! Just saw a few of your videos! It's awesome to see you on here. I'm currently on break to travel but I'm thinking I'll compete as a blue belt sometime at the end of the year!
Watching this, makes me appreciate more & realize how good the higher level belt is. Very complicated, subtle, and harder to breakdown by regular people like me. I wish I could join the gym soon 😄
Great job! Very interesting and entertaining to watch! As a white belt it's fun to see how the moves you learn from training are used in a real competition! :)
Noticed your first few opponents were no stripe whites and looks like you have a few, just curious did this tourny not have 6 month and under novice bracket?
Hey good question. Others have asked the same since they noticed. Sometimes people don’t use their belts that have stripes on them or they might be from a gym that doesn’t have a stripe policy. I’ve heard from a couple guys who were competing that do this. Never heard of a 6 month and under novice bracket before
@@Lattes_Little_Family ahh gotcha i just started bjj last month and was just curious bc im competing in the next couple months at a fuji tournament, they have 6 month and under gi experience bracket only reason i asked. Thanks for the response brotha!
Haha good question. While I was choking I heard him tap with his feet so let him go. But apparently that wasn't him tapping. However the match was already over soon after that because time ran out and I would've won with points
@@Lattes_Little_Family good to know. I will start bjj soon and this video kind of scared me. I knew I would get smashed in the beginning but didn't expect whitebelts to be this competitive. I guess I'll have to "Embrace the suck" then. 😂
@@JoHnSapla7LordSapla9 That's great. Find your pace and work at it. Competitions are a great place to test where you compare with others. Many are happy not competing
Yes happened to me at a tournament I went to. Except the guy I faced didn’t tell them he had mat experience and started in the >6 months beginner (intermediate) division. He should have started in the 6 months or more advanced white belt division, like the guy did on this video. So good for him on doing it the right way. The guy I faced is a “sand bagger” I guess
I'm sorry but no... High school maybe... But you don't shoot with your head down in college... (I'm a former d2 wrestler) no way dude was anymore of a wrestler than high school...
@@nextlevelbjj3083 I actually have I'm still a 6 month white belt as my school doesn't do stripes so I don't know where I fit on the spectrum... But per my coach... I compete blue belt... obviously it depends on the individual of course...
Haha thank you! This was back in 2017 when I was a white belt. I had the blue belt syndrome and currently disappeared from the jiu jitsu scene but planning to get back in a year. Good luck competing!
Also, if you have previous mat experience, you’re supposed to tell the IBJJF or FUJi or whatever competition you are competing in, that you have 6+ months of mat time. Whether it’s college wrestling, judo, etc

Just two blokes rolling around the floor, sitting on each other, and occasionally (this I found odd) putting their bottom on the other's face. Perhaps call it gayjitsu?
Thats basically grappling. The thing is when a skilled grappler faces and unskilled grappler the skilled grappler could murder the unskilled guy with his bear hands but to learn the skill.you gotta put up with the crotch to face scenarios.
@@10beanz yeah it takes some getting used to. Ive been at it a few years and still get kinda uncomfortable with some positions, especially when the crotch or ass is near the face. Rolling with women presents other problems

I'm also white belt and 4 stripes. I think you did really good.
Thanks for sharing Caleb! I really enjoyed watching your roll. Keep posting and give us no stripe white belts something to aspire to!
What is the first submission called
Pretty sure it was a cross collar choke or a lapel choke.
Man your great to watch. Always thinking smart and trying everything you can. 👌👌
Some of these dudes pulled out some sick moves and you still killed it. Nawce 🤙

last guy was from ryan halls school very good grappler
The guy who won in the finals is a very skilled white belt
what did the first two tap too? I am a white belt just trying to improve, thank you in advance.
Baseball bat choke
Baseball bat choke
Good matches. Question, did the second guy tap with his feet or something? Both competitors looked a little confused when the ref stopped it

Caleb Kim lol that makes sense. Good work man!
He is a boarder blue
what is the name of the submission at 2:10
Tommy Martin baseball choke
Caleb, great matches.
Was that a baseball choke in yhe first match
Yep first two submissions were both baseball chokes
When did you get promoted to Blue??
A few months after this. Total it was around a year and 6-9 months
Congratulations💪 killing it!!
This is awesome man. My first tournament is coming up soon too haha. Probably a dumb question. But why isn’t anybody wearing a rash guard?
That's so exciting! IBJJF rules state that you can't wear rash guards. Check with your tournament rules to see what they allow. Good luck!
How far from a blue belt is this level?
Are they advanced white belts?
I got my blue a few months after this tournament

How many match u did in a ibjjjf competition to win it ?.. +calebkim in how many days ?.. tq

4 stripe vs no stripes. Even at white belt there's levels
Sometimes people wear a blank belt, to throw their opponent off.
You lost to one hell of a wrestler. Not everyone knows how to cross body leg ride.
4 stripe vs a bunch of no stripe? You should be winning

Caleb Kim good to know. Nice work btw
I've trained with the individual that won your last match and can confirm 50/50 doesn't have a stripe system.
Also, if you have previous mat experience, (wrestling, judo, etc) you are supposed to start in a higher division then a beginner white belt.
