Every September we would wait to see the new cars. Spotting one now & then till we could watch this race. See them in action. Much speculation till then. In 1964 it just kept coming. Cars & trucks took giant leaps in reliability & power. There was the Mustang & this guy, Carol Shelby. Then the Beatles showed up. Great year...

Remarkable for Bobby Isaac to drive competitively on the superspeedways in 1964, but it would be years before he got a victory, at Texas, on a big speedway.
And all the crying started, for 65' the hemi wasn't allowed.Petty ran a drag car 65' Barracuda. It came back in 66' because Chrysler released the beast for the street. This pissed off Potato nose France so he restricted them to single 4bbl. They still won.
In fact , in 67 Petty decimated the fords 😂😂😂. He won something like 27 of 48 races & one stretch of 10 races in a row. Most people don't realize how much bill France restricted the hemis & catered to Ford quite a bit. Bill France was a Ford guy.
@Mr3903ce: Please tell me that you're not this ignorant? All the crying started in 1964 by the little girls at chrysler (now FIAT). In 1964 Ford built the 427 SOHC Hemi "Cammer" to compete in NASCAR. The little girls at chrysler cried to France which prompted him to amend the rule book, and ban the Ford 427 Cammer, never allowing it to run in NASCAR. The little girls at chrysler knew that their 426 was no match for the Ford 427 Cammer. Actually quite sad! It would have been exciting to see the Ford 427 Cammer's smoke the chrysler "FIAT" 426's on the oval.
Fantastic!! What a great video! I find no need to, in an infantile manner, insult any other era or generation. I will leave that task to the decrepit derelicts.
Bill France would take money from anyone, I suppose favors happened. How much to ban the 427 SOHC? Airodynamics are introduced from the factory with very positive results & they are banned. Nothing happens for twenty years to keep these cars from launching. Thanks to BILL FRANCE. It would have been good for everyone if these engines were allowed to be developed & make it to the public. France robbed us all.

Deacon Frey Senior himself said when he won number 7 there is only one king. He said Richard Petty will always be the king. This was well quoted in the media.
@Michael Myers Nobody is ever.. ever. Gonna top the King for wins in nascar But what you have to remember is the era's that they raced in. With the king it was the super speedway factory backed era of the 60s and early 70s there were alot of shorter less than 300 mile races then and even more events. But when the factories went away and R J Reynolds came on board all of those short races went away and then the modern era started. In no way will I ever think less of Richard Petty, He has always been My favorite sports hero and pretty much all the races that he won were in both the super speedway era and in the modern era. Nor do I ever think any less of the Intimidator Dale Earnhardt sr who was from that modern era.
