1:48,Richard Petty in a convertible and no window net. It's a wonder those guys survived or didn't at least lose an arm.

That #3 Pontiac is sounding good. Too bad fuel pump went. Convertibles are nice until dibrey comes in. A hardtop gives extra protection. Wonder where those cars are today?

For its time, and even to this day, one of the greatest finishes in racing history, period.
But especially for its time. Mind you that races regularly had winners that lapped the field, and attrition was extremely high even for the very best competitors.
To have a finish that close, after 500 miles, at that time, is completely insane. The closest margin of victory for an Indy 500 at that time was like 2 seconds or something.
Of the greatest and closest finishes in nascar history, this is the god of all of them.

My family moved here to Daytona Beach in 1970.I was just 2 years old.
However I remember many great times at the speedway when....IT WAS A GREAT SPEEDWAY.
Today unfortunately...NASCAR is just a name of the past
Sure the sport lives on.With it's whiny drivers... Sponsor that you have to name Everytime a driver speaks.Cars that are really pieces of junk....Safe yes but still nothing of the past. And let's not forget the idiotic interviews after each race.
Sure am glad I was here to bare witness to when NASCAR was NASCAR.

NASCAR still is NASCAR, it's just gotten with the times. It makes me laugh seeing comments like this. new doesn't always equal bad, if anything there's been more exciting moments this season than any season from glory days combined.

      @@rshackelford4445 Allow me to retort.
If you could go back in time and ask ANY of the former drivers this question.
"When you start a race how many Checkered flags should there be?"
They would look at you and laugh !!!
YOU START A RACE AND RACE FOR THE 'CHECKERED FLAG'!"
      Not three of them !
Don't even get me started on how ridiculous the Point system and Playoff system is.
I shall end by saying this...Go tell F1 that they will have 'Stage' racing and see what happens.

at that time yes, but it took them a while to get the photos developed so they could see who actually one, remember there was no digital anything and the movie cameras didnt show exactly who won.
