It is a combination of the two, size and condition are more important than age as an indicator for when a cavy is ready to breed, but essentially they are never in breeding condition before they are 6month old , in the selfs the weight is usually over 2lb and I never use boars until 10 months old as I need to see their development before adding their genes into the stud
