--- 🎧 Download links are available in the description 🎧 --- Put into order, this soundtrack exhibits great narrative potential. While providing an interesting addition in the form of new ambient tracks, it never tries to outshine its predecessor. In keeping with the electronic music type tradition of Fabrice Bouillon-Laforest's 2003 soundtrack, it approaches the task more like a remix than a reinvention. To reduce spam, I will go through all the comments on this video before publishing them. Happy to see what you think!
The best thing about this game was the soundtrack. We must admit that they could not repeat the creations of Bouillon-LaForest, it is strange that they did not invite him to make the soundtrack even better. I even made a music mod pack for Dota 2, extracted music from the XXL and Olympics. Now the music sounds more electronic and faded. But it was the crazy drums of Bouillon that gave more dynamics and atmosphere in battles. And the calm music let you know that you are either in the Gaul village by the fire, or you knew that you are in the snows of Normandy, its caves and so on. I have never heard such entertaining music anywhere else in games, not only in 9+, but also in 18+ games. So much for the difference in how the gaming industry has changed. Even the music is different now But yeah this Greece Fight soundtrack is awesome!
Laforest stopped working on games in 2007, he only makes stage music now. But I think he was aware of this remix. It must have been quite honouring for him to find out that his music made such an impact, even if only on a small fanbase. I think as an artist there's a certain excitement to finding out how another composer would approach your work from more than 15 years ago.
Crazy to think this was the first ever game I played on PlayStation, EVER, and now it’s finally remastered after more than a decade of waiting. It’s insane. I played Asterix & Obelix Kick Buttix since I was 4 years old, the first ever ps2 game I learned to play and actually ended up playing entirely. (took me 2 years to beat it, keep in mind I was literally 4, I didn’t know much of anything, yet I still kept at trying to play it and learn) And, here we are. The remaster I’ve been waiting for. And man I couldn’t be ANY MORE HAPPY with it. I’ve only gotten to the second boss and I still tear up hearing that boss fight music, or the map theme, every time. It’s crazy to think, here I am, at 18 years old, soon to be 19 in April, am finally playing my very first game I’ve ever beat, played, and learned legitimately, all by myself. I love this game. I know it’s very repetitive in terms of combat, and it’s not very interesting to most people, but to me, everything about this game is absolutely perfect. It’s the type of game that CAN pull it off, that CAN get away with having the exact same combat and puzzle games in every level, because it’s just built to work that way, AND IT DOES WORK. Of course I respect the opinions of the critics who reveal the utter simplicity of the game, because they’re not wrong in any way whatsoever, it IS simple, and it IS easy and repetitive, but the music, the characters, the everything in this game just has a charm that very few can latch onto and absolutely adore and love. I hope the rest of you reading this enjoy playing this remaster, because I know I’m not the only one who feels this way.
I agree, this game defies pretty much all the rules, making it really sour to the critics and people who have grown up with a more standardized taste in games. Yet everyone who had the chance to play it unbiased grips onto it for years. There might be more to come next year by the way. The developers of this remaster were kind enough to leave some unused beta content from 2002 behind in the game files for the community to find and port back into the original game. 🤫
Honestly, it's not too bad, actually I'm starting to like the new twist put into the tracks now, even if I still have a preference for the original one. The track that dissapointed me a bit first was the Boss Fight remix because I loved how "spooky" the original sounded with the grinding gear sound over and over again, but this one is not too bad actually when listening to it a second time. The more calm soundtracks are still as beautiful as ever, and I love how the new composer remixed the Victory Anthem and the Library of Athens! The new Banquet music sounds nice too!
Grottoes and Caverns sounds as if this is the melody of the last minutes of your life and you remember everything that happened. Or you are flying in space. Just goosebumps.
So. After getting rid of duckling syndrome, listening to the soundtrack several times, I realized that it was not so bad. Sometimes one gets the impression that the soundtrack suits Laforest Bouillon when he was doing the soundtrack for the Olympic Games. Something in this is similar. The Greek fight will be in my heart. The Athens library is great for rap. Bathhouse resembles a standby mode, like PS4. I am glad that some soundtracks are made so as not to scare you (except for the cave), because in the original the music sounded as if this game was annoying and there was danger everywhere. The soundtrack is awesome! P.S Love that "HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYY" in Gladiators sound
Aaah, should you have waited a day or two I'd have happily offered you my custom looped tracks put in order, for you to make into this quality gathering. As, some tracks when put back to back don't seem to loop well and required some fixing. And unfortunately, due to a current bug with the game that prevents music from looping, we have no idea what is the exact intended transition for each. Great work nonetheless!
Well, I made this for myself first and foremost, with the intent of mixing these tracks together in a way that I could listen to them in one go, so I specifically was not going for individual tracks. In fact, this is really just one big audio file with chapter markers ;) - I took some freedom with it, but ultimately I thought it was working well enough to upload and label it as a "mixtape". But, for the people looking for a full soundtrack download link, I'm going to direct them to your edition, if that's okay :)
@@Martyste in december 30th on 2020, when i played XXL Romastered in extreme mode(which i need to get the LAST achievements), i notice is that the remix is now loop and i listen this best soundtrack which get me crazy! Unfortunaly in retro mode, the original music is not loop at all but there is a chance that the patch is coming.
Just like the remaster itself, the music is a mixed bag - but it helps that it was already awesome - I like some songs better than the original, it's honestly perfectly fine to switch between them at times. Given the overall poor quality of the remaster as a game (new graphics are hideous, I keep thinking I'm on the remastered mode, and then I realize I'm playing retro), this is the best part of the new stuff.
I agree, this soundtrack is the best thing to come out of the XXL series revival in general. I'm still somewhat disappointed about what XXL3 turned out to be.
@@LaVerite-Gaming It's very strange that Microids have decided to suddenly start pumping out shovelware Asterix titles. I would love to see a proper XXL3 game from the original devs (which are long gone), XXL2 showed promise when it comes to improved gameplay from XXL. Oh well, maybe one day, the not so Osome studios will get the boot and someone decent will actually get a chance to make a new game with the license.
They kinda changed the way it sounds... some of the undertones that made it to special are gone :( On top of that they're using different instruments, they don't sound as authentic/aged as the others did. They tried to make everything super shiny and modern, and that really sucks. Greece Fight now sounds like one of those "X song but you're heavily drunk in the bathroom" UA-cam videos ._.
I would say quite the opposite. This games soundtrack feels a... bit more like its actually 50 bc, like the OG soundtrack was fire but this one kinda gives you the vibe a cartoony game should
This is so disappointing. As someone previously said, the best thing about the game was the music. It's one of the best soundtracks if not THE best gaming soundtrack I've ever listened to. The fight song from the beach was one of the best ones, as well as the boss battle and they just completely made them into something that's not even comparable to the original ones. They could have just kept the original soundtrack and the game would have been perfect.
I'm okay with it, I think there are some tracks that are clearly lacking compared to the original, yet others do add an interesting twist. If there was only the remix, I'd be disappointed, but you can always switch to the original soundtrack.
Most games get remix soundtracks because when 90’s games got great musics then 2010’s get a remix soundtrack like Crash Bandicoot,Spyro,Medievil and Final Fantasy 7 remake. This one now has Remix Soundtrack better that the original game.
The Imperial Eagle is really good music. Most of this musics in original and romastered are ectasy musics. I dont know who came with these ideas to in kids game be ectasy musics but definitely was smart. Probably knew that kids are taking too much sugar during this.
