I hope one day motorcycle airbag vests becomes the norm in the safety gear we wear. Just like a helmet. I feel like these and neck braces can save a lot of lives
Brilliant tech. Anything that saves the lives of motorcyclists _AND_ is simple to reload (though how many times do you want to be needing to before you realise that maybe this isn't for you ... !) is a good thing.
Been using this on the road with my Dainese jackets/suit with a hump and it works brilliantly. Its a great product. Just attach the lanyard to the frame under the seat of the bike, feed it up between the tank and the front of the seat and keep it as short as possible so that the distance you travel before the jacket fires is at a minimum.
I'm thinking about getting the air gp too but my problem is is that I cant figure out which is safer I asked the people who made it and they told me the air gp would be safer than the turtle in any circumstance especially with a full suit but i feel like if i got hit by a car the turtle would be safer
Mason Merck I grabbed the helmet turtle hi-viz because I ride on the street and off road. I don’t do any track riding at all. This allows me to hopefully experience less of other countries health care systems in the event of an accident! I do love how with the hi-viz people really ‘notice’ me coming!
time to invest in one of these. I didn't know it was so self contained and easy to reload. Thought it was like a car airbag and then you have to buy a new jacket. but this is great.
I have to say, after having two accidents in the space of 2 years, the second one resulting in 3 broken ribs, a punctured lung, a broken collar bone and a broken hand, I think I owe it to myself and my family to get one of these once I am fully recovered.
I have to say, given how much I love motorcycling and so understand how much more dangerous simply commuting can be compared to a car, these should be made a legal requirement in the UK just as a safety helmet. Good product, I will grab one.
It would be good to design a a hip and leg air bag which is triggered as the bike Jack knifes or falls to either side, and detects car speed for side impact. Maybe something to protect the wrists and elbows, major contact points. The body needs to roll and slide so the bag needs to be ergonomic in a crash on multiple surfaces and traction.
Last year my father had a serious motorcycle crash wearing a Helite GP Air. The vest didn't deploy because the mechanism that opens the cartridge malfunctioned. He suffered severe injury and survived because of a miracle. PLEASE testfire your Helite vest to check that it really works!!! My Turtle worked but my trust in Helite is gone forever and so is my fathers ability to ride.
I have both the Turtle Vest and the adventure jacket. I wear the turtle vest more because I can wear my regular riding jackets underneath depending on weather (hot, mild, cold) When it’s really cold (relatively speaking for Florida) I’ll wear the adventure jacket. Another good thing about the vest is it’s high-viz reflective properties.
And / or perhaps one with non sharp ie plastic ends or a nice little ratchet one. I'm sure the material is very tough but completely alleviating any risk at all of the marking the vest would be sensible and remove any potential liability should it fail eg. Impacts a sharp object during a crash and happens to fail in the same area
I have the gp air, it's a nice piece of kit and unfortunately I've used it for real as I race. It's not all positive, this will make low sides worse but protect you in high sides. I've had a low side twice with this and the first time at 30mph the vest didn't go off, simply dragging me with the bike leaving my leg trapped under my bike. The second time I lowsided at 60mph and the vest went off after a while of sliding when I went from track to grass, the inflation caused me to start flipping, damaging my hands, wrists and shoulders as I tumbled. However the vest held my head really still and protected areas such as my shoulder bones which are not usually protected. Not sure if it's worth the money yet.
Some great info there Chris - are you still using it ? do you think an airbag suit from Alpinestars or Dainese would better ? I really do like the neck/hypertension protection the gp air looks like it would provide, however, your comments do concern me.
Pretty sure the track version is made of competition grade leather similar to a track suit so yes it will definitely slide. And the textile version is a high denier count like other textile jackets so it will also slide. Though not as far as the track version. But the road version has better overall coverage and protection.
They have jacket versions of the airbag vest not sure the difference in how they work I'd assume the jacket just has a air vest inside it and that the arms dont inflate.
only interrest is for the neck. On racetrack we have chest & back protection already. Dainese level2. This vest won't protect the collarbone to breake, wich is the main injury.
Seems like it's critical that it can also be removed as soon after the accident is over as possible, in case medical attention is needed. You don't want to be stuck in it for a full 7 minutes, right? Can this be removed before the deflation is over?
@@bennettsbikesocial I didn't notice anywhere in the video that it mentions that it can be unzipped while under pressure. It only said that it deflates in 7 min. So are you saying that even like 1 min after inflation, while still tight and under high pressure that it can easily be unzipped if there was a need?
it doesn't seem like it would take too much engineering to make a quicker deflation mechanism. 7 minutes seems excessive if you want it deflated... I noticed they had it removed off-camera so we wouldn't see what a pain in the ass it is. Of course if it saves your bacon then you'll probably forgive that little inconvenience.
its better then a broken collarbone that 3-4 months of absolute agony or spine damage that pretty much ride ending for life honestly i think helite bags are still the way to go the new d air and alpine tech air are still way to complicated they got to be charge they got to be armed you gotta check the led lights this all you have to do is wear it like any other jacket and clip the land yard and there you go
If you want it deflated quicker, just take off the vest...it's worn outside of your jacket and secured with velcro straps. Simple. And that 7 mins of inflation could be a life saving feature for the right situation. I dont see a negative to it. My .02
Until i forget im wearing it and try to walk into walmart and look like a moron lol. Its a great idea. I knew it when i saw them for snowboarders. Ill get one when the price comes down a bit for the cheap riders
I got a cheap helmet on amazon and a basic jacket for like 50 each just so I can get out there and practice, but to be honest I'm not too confident in them to take it on a highway or anything. Once I start riding more regularly I'll have to dish out for a real helmet and possibly one of these vests. only takes that one time you wish you spent more and it'll be too late to go back.
Be aware that although you can reload them yourself after an accidental pull (or more likely you testing it), you absolutely should throw it out and buy a new one after a crash, just like any abraded safety critical pressure vessel.
Slap 50 level 2 back protectors behind you and you could probably be shot with a .50 cal and survive. The clips on the mechanical Helite vests are crap. They break way to often. It's a good product. But the marketing and claims are not very smart.
Can confirm it's very usable on track as I race with one and a few others in my club race with them. You can take the chest protection out so it's not bulky though I leave mine in as I don't wear other chest protection.
Got a Helite Turtle vest. Thankfully I haven't had to use it, but wouldn't leave home without it now.

@@antoniorodriguez162 You don't need a neck brace if you're wearing the Helite air bag, you can't actually.

I like this one. Looks like it protects the neck in addition to back and chest. Looks easy to recharge too.
This has already saved so many lives! A revolutionary product!

just send it with a longer key so it doens't keep hitting the vest and it's perfect

don't some of these air bags use a GPS or some tracking of your position to know that you're clearly not in a riding position anymore?
If you slide with the bike and hit object first? No protection or inflation and bike crushes you.? More testing! Ride safe!
The fact that you can use it again, is awesome.
Is it tear resistant

are both as good armor or is turle is better portectiomon?
What if! You forget to unplug tur wire and try to walk away from The bike? IT hapened to ME while i had my hadphones on...
Nothing - I've tried that several times (not all deliberately) and the force required is too great. You'd have to be running from the bike.
Sa Fugim! They literally demonstrate how unlikely this is to happen. Great job guys
Helite says you need 60 lbs force to set off the airbag so you’re probably safe from setting it off.

How much for the airbag
I believe they're around $500-800 or so

How does one prevent this? Does a Helf Kendo Bodyprotector suffice? (Combined with a Held racing suit)
the vest protect the collarbone for sure!
will it work ontop of the Dainese d air combined with the Helite GP air?
You will probably crush your ribs by that amount of pressure
How much for the vest??
Think it's 600$

How long is that in English?
"Nought point nought nine seconds" is 0.09 seconds. Nine hundredths of a second. 90 milliseconds.
