Oh she is a highly talented singer with an expressive voice and a trained classical singer. Listen to her Nithirai Illaiyadi Sakiye Nimmadhi Illaiyadi tamil song. As far as talent goes we can never underestimate our great old singers like Leela and Jikki. Their voices were unique. I can't remember the song but there is an obscure old tamil song by Leela where she sings something like swara jaalaas except that the swarams are words. Imagine that for a minute. If you are a trained carnatic singer yes you can sing swarams easily. To sing words in the same style instead of swarams is the most difficult. And she did exactly that. Another main reason the composer was able to do that was because of the ton of short words available in tamil. I generally listen to songs from the 50's and 60's. Some 70's.
She is a singer with that strict classical background and training.. She was trained under legendary musicians including Chembai.. Her speciality is that the way that she handles both light and classical music at the same time, which is difficult for most of the singers.
