I like uding the spine of the blade when carving/whittling to smooth the surface. Great hacks!
Informative and enjoyable, great vid. Recently got a Viking spark and love it.
09:30 Don't need the knife. If the steel wool will reach between both terminals of the cell,/battery then that's all that is needed. Also, the extended elements can get tangled in the wool and when you try to pull them apart the burning wool (or pieces of it) could fly anywhere.
If the 'bundle' of steel wool you have isn't big enough to stretch between the two cell/battery terminals, then just twist a very few strands of the wool into a "wire" that will touch one terminal with the bundle touching the other terminal.
Note1: An alkaline 9volt battery (with a plastic insulator cap) will store for years and the terminals are only about 5mm apart so it's a good steel wool igniter. A quality 9V alkaline battery stores enough energy to ignite many bundles of steel wool, even beyond its expiration date.
Note2: Personally, I've felt that if I have enough space for enough steel wool to start say...10 separate fires (unfortunately, fires can go out for a number of reasons), then a simple, cheap butane lighter is more useful and flexible (e.g. also provides easily controlled melting of paracord to keep it from fraying, plastic items that melting can help repair, etc). I store it in something that secures/protects the gas lever. (e.g. I store 1 in a prescription pill bottle with some matches and/or dry starter material. Quite a few are water-tight and the cap locks so won't 'pop off' with rough handling. I usually separately store 2 lighters for redundancy in the rare case one develops a leak, even though any leak would be detected during my routine inspections of the 'go' bag(s).)
I have started adding small keychain lights on some of my packs as zipper pulls. It helps to make it easy to identify which zipper you are grabbing in a hurry plus a lot of times keychain lights have a true moonlight or at least a sub 5 lumen mode so if you just need a bit of ambient light you have it handy.
Also mini ferro rods (1/4" diameter, 1" length) double drilled are my tighteners/zipper pulls/toggles on most everything... shoes, jackets, bags, pouches.
Hair ties are another great option, like the shock cord, to give a quick access loop. I attach them to the slip ring on swiss army knives to give quick access to a multitool in jean coin pocket / fifth pocket.
Great and very useful video! Wait for more!!!
Good tips. Thanks.
Just bought the Bright Ideas bit holder. Thanks for the information.
I like the double pocket clip on my streamlight usb light, works on the pocket but also can be used on a hat brim to be like a headlamp.
I've had my guided field sharpener for at least 4 or 5 years now and have used it from my pocket knives to kitchen knives to my hatchet, and it has been well loved in those years and will use it until i break it
6:08 I got multiple CC4 Fällkniven stones that come with a leather sheath for stropping. Good stuff!
Well done. Work sharp just solid tool, like you bro.
Great video and very good hacks too!
Awww, you paid attention in my little class. 🥰
Great stuff
Wonderful!!
Try proper O-ring on the flashlight clip, works great on fingers when pulled.
Florecent cord on gear (especially on black gear), if you have a uv light like on the arkfield pro it makes things easier to find in the dark.
I thing i learned from goblin slayer different knots/braids to put on your gear to differentiate what tool is which in the dark or if you don't have eyes on it
after the polish on the washers for the first hack, do you add oil or no?
Great hacks mate! Could I ask what was that fixed blade you used?? Greetings from scandinavia.
I've been waiting for this video for two months.😂
Always take a guided field sharpener out with me while camping when I know I'm using a knife. Probably the best sharpener on the market to "travel" with. Best way to get good at free hand sharpening is use sharpie markers. I like the steel wool idea with a sak that's new to me. Totally forgot about the dead lighter trick.
Excellent EDC hack tips
Definitely do more hacks videos
Awesome 👏
Knifeville also sends their regards.
What’s that pocket knife with the topography scales at 7:52
looks like i needa start carrying steel wool whenever i go out now lol
How about a Home Depot edc or Lowe’s edc, updated of course!
Just got yourself a new subscriber.
If you have a coffee mug handy then the bottom of it can be used to hone a knife blade just as a ceramic rod.
Thanks Taylor and rikki
Or you just whip out the MagnaCut blade on that leatherman 😂
Well, sure 😂
What is that fixed blade you used in this video?
ricky is like a sniper with that camera dude hitting every shot
So, I noticed on your Bic you still have that white stick-on label. Could you possibly peel that off and use it as tinder?! Just thought of this. Try it and see.
14:11 I love getting me some fluff!
As an 80's baby, I've been a smoker since 1996. I quit a few years ago but I still tap my left front pocket whenever I want to start a fire and I've finally given up and put a Bic in my "EDC Pouch". I still have a Spanish clipper from the 90's that works and all but I'll leave that to my grandkids so I can't be shaving off that good french plastic unless it shtf times.
Clippers are awesome!
Awesome video 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
taylor brotha add these for sustainment for a fire > rubber cement // fritos // doritoes // 550 military paracord // i e.d.c. a green laser that will n can shoot over 2600 feet , as long as the battery is fully charged up , this will start a fire (if need be ) anywhere on anything out there + it's a great defensive tool on my person , thanks n great vid n keep em coming , i am a u.s marine vet 93' to 97' active ! > GOD BLESS OUR COUNTRY AND OUR MILITARY !
What are those first two knives that you compare? I must have missed the part where you mentioned it
Which one? I showed several in this video lol
@@BestDamnEDC the first two knives, one had a green handle, the other had a brown handle. Both appeared to have the Axis lock system.
@@beaumontdale675 Tactile Knife Maverick
@@BestDamnEDC thanks man

Thank you EDC man
I use o rings on my flashlight clip. They stay in place, I can get to it easy, and they don’t get snagged on things.
Just got a work sharp. I love it!
I need to learn how to sharpen a knife 😂
Hey glad I’m not the only person who polishes their washers.
This could be an all day workshop, but.... anything springy or elastic (for example, rubber tubing, bungee cord, elastic tape in clothing, springs, even rubber bands) are a ready source of stored mechanical energy.
They can be used to make hasty traps/trigger devices, weapons (hunting), and useful engines.
Simplest is the speargun. Or I can turn my Charge TTi into a 300fps slingshot. Real bows use potential energy from the limbs, but a weaker bow can be improvised using just elastic energy and any more or less straight shaft for arrows (like bamboo). Springs make booby traps very easy to set. And there are dozens of ways to create motion (machines) with elastic, including torsion, deceleration, and friction drives that produce heat as a by-product.
Micarta option would be nice on the Lookout
You can hone if you turn a mug upside down and draw your knife along the edge.
Another tip is if you take Ranger bands and make them small enough and put one vertically on the zippo lighter and then horizontally where it opens it will last for longer mine not last me about 2 1/2 weeks
MOAR!!!
Bro really treating that TKC Maverick like its $5 from walmart lol
Dear lord! How hard is it to sharpen a knife! Lol
Which watch are you wearing?
I think it is the Big idea desing Ti Field Watch / Solar Driven / Stonewashed
This title and thumbnail remind me of Peter McKinnons first viral vid.
I'm struggling to think of a reason why one wouldn't polish both washer sides.
Solid vid man
I've used my jeans before too strop
This is my favorite white dude, when the apocalypse happens I’m riding with this dude 🙏🏾
This guy strikes that ferro rod like he's never actually lit a fire with a ferro rod
What knife is that featured in the Leatherman sharpening section at 5:32?
Carry Commission exclusive Pro-Tech Malibu
Doesn't the firesteel corrode when you wear it on your body? Human sweat is quite corrosive and magnesium gets eaten by chemicals very quickly.
I haven't had corrosion (oxidation) problems with my ferro rods yet, but maybe over years it will.
But I recently found an old firestarter rod that I had bought in the 80s and completely forgot about. Blast Match?? Anyway it came in its own handle/container. When I opened it up ( after 35 years ), the rod was fine, pristine, but the container was filled with this fine, gray powder, which dumped out and made a mess. It did not look rusty. I figure something happened chemically, but what?
@@ulvesparker I had a similar thing happen to my dad's old Light My Fire ferro rod. The weird grey dust was everywhere and the surface was pitted almost like from acid or something.
Is this the Phonedog guy?
Just make it (EDC hacks) a whole series until you run out of ideas. These are very cool and I enjoy them a lot! ☺️👍
You just need the steel wool and the battery I think....that's how I've done it....
Just use a Dual-function knife sharpener from the brand Victorinox.
Easy to use .
Height: 18 mm
Length: 144 mm
Width: 20 mm
Weight: 40 g
Really the basic stuf you have to have for survival.
Word of the day:
Honing.
Great hacks
Just carry a foldable dmt portable sharpener
Now do that to your sabenza
It's amazing the things i would be into if i were a real man.
How loose is the pivot on that second Maverick? Trying to pull a fast one on us Taylor?!
Just kidding man, I’m gonna give this a go on my Maverick. It’s terrible action wise and would love to get it to close one handed. Even with a flick of the wrist. If I loosen the pivot… like at all, it gets gross blade play.
Yeah, the difference in the G-10 and the micarta and titanium ones I have is pretty nuts. The G-10 one shipped that way and I had to work on the others to get them even remotely close
🤘🏻
Sharpening? Pick up a stone?
Do you get stoned if you pick up a stone? Do you stone someone else? Stone your knife? 🤔
More hacks!!
You got it!
hoooning
Duct tape around my Bics
🐑
Not a fan of knives that drop closed like that... it's dangerous, if you know, and DAMN dangerous if you don't.
Understand if you want it to close in a consistant way, but dropping like that isn't good in my opinion.
I DO adjust mine so that they close easily and consitantly.
All bullshit
Stopped watching and downvoted after a few seconds because of all the sponsor ads.
cause everyone should work for free 😂
It’s how he makes money and it’s good content so who cares if he plays adds?
Better to have it at the beginning than throughout the vid
Cry harder
It's almost as if you want to watch free content and for me to make it for free ... You can't have it both ways. I run a business that provides for my family and others while offering a valuable service for other small businesses in this industry. I can't help that you fail to understand that.
So when you say "hacks" you actually mean just normal things most people do. Thanks for being useless
The swiss army knife with the battery was a good tip
Good team. Security, food and learn to wipe like a Filipino.
