  • Last video was tearing into the model 44 v-twin motor, this time its the little 12hp flattys turn. This motor has been raced for many seasons with an ARC billet flywheel, high torque starter, ARC 6280 billet connecting rod, Brass counter weights, precision cams 246 grind, AVS piston and dual valve springs. Its not been a bad little motor but after a mishap that lead to it being run out of oil its time for some attention!

    Hey so I'm new to racing and I have a 13 hp i/c it runs good but I have no governor on it and I'm afraid of blowing it up. So if you count post links for the flywheel and if the rod will work in mine that aswell thanks

    Is it possible to run these without any counterweights or will they grenade their selves?

    • @TheJanticJournal
      @TheJanticJournal  6 років тому +1

      +Mountain Mania I think what people will do instead of brass counterweights is they run a billet "dogbone" and run the stock weights. I don't know how it would act with no weights at all.

      Governor is removed with the old old hole for the shaft tapped and plugged. You have to keep in the oil slinger that runs off of the cam though.

    Do they make the brass counterweights for the model 25, 11 horsepower or only for the 12, model 28, I realize the number 25 and 28 is cubic inches, I'm just talking for a regular engine not performance I just want to get rid of the synchro balance rattle on my lawnmower.

    Im working on rebuilding one of these. Intake valve seat is a probelem. Someone reseated it and then whacked around it with a sharp punch to keep it in it looks like. Either way its not seating. Is getting an oversized seat possible/feasable? Or should i just grab a different block?

    • @TheJanticJournal
      @TheJanticJournal  6 років тому +1

      If you don't have much else invested in the block I would just look for another one build.

    • @eclipsegst9419
      @eclipsegst9419 6 років тому

      TheJanticJournal it was free. My dad gave up on it and replaced it. I got the seat properly seated but the intake valve doesnt close on time for the compression stroke. There is no reason the timing should be off as they never opened it to my knowledge. Just need a pulley puller to check. If its not the timing i think ill just find a bare block in good shape. Or i do have access to a Kawi fc420v, which runs but there are no hop up parts. I found a place that will grind a cam, but arc has no interest in a one off flywheel. I may see if it has a similar snout to any briggs or honda. Im not afraid to fab some stuff up. Experimenting is fun.

    What's it cost to send them engines off to get them worked on - bored and all that? for the twin and single

    • @TheJanticJournal
      @TheJanticJournal  7 років тому +2

      +Nicholas Brown The singles we're around $600 for sleeving, boring, clearencing the bottom of the bore for the rod, clearencing for the bigger cams, cleaning the block and the valves. The twin isn't done yet but that's just a straight .020 bore so hopefully it's not too bad

    I have a 900 series intek and I want to put it on something, I had it on a gokart but I had to sell the gokart and now I have it on a old tiller and I want to put it on something else but I don't have any knowledge about fabricating stuff but I want to learn, and I want to put it on anything really but I have a super super tight budget do you know anything easy and cheap I could do?

    • @TheJanticJournal

      +PigRadar Hmm, that's got me thinking. You want it to be something you can ride or just anything to tinker around with?

    • @pigradar8481
      @pigradar8481 7 років тому

      I kinda want it to be something to ride, I have a old full metal lawn mower that I have been thinking about slamming it and making it look awesome and put a tow hitch on it for small trailers but I have no clue where to get started on anything like that. But with my motor I have on my tiller, I kinda want to put it on a mini bike or something, maybe a old dirtbike frame but I don't know anything about gear boxes or anything so really, I am just looking to learn anything that is cheap.

    • @TheJanticJournal
      @TheJanticJournal  7 років тому

      +PigRadar minibikes and go karts are by far the easiest and cheapest to get going. Just keep in mind something like a dirt bike would probably require a lot of customization to make a Briggs work on it.

    • @pigradar8481
      @pigradar8481 7 років тому

      oh yeah? Well, for a mini bike, can you find frames for under $100 online or how would that work? I might be able to get my old go-kart back but I am going to have to pay more than I sold it for, but it was a crazy machine, offroading like a 4wheeler, plowing threw everything and jumping over bumps, only thing about it is I need to extend it and move the steering wheel to the center, I do have a small welder that I got for under 100 bucks from a pawn shop, I wonder if It could work.
