RayRay3866 I did it. However... Made Some similar mistakes. Same thing with the screen with the spots underneath. And lots of air bubbles 🤷🏼♂️. But both of them not visible when the display is on. I did manage to pull of the original film in one piece. Using a simple hairdryer to loosen the glue helped a lot. Thanks again for the vid!
be careful folks I did that and I didn't found a filter that have the same contrast as the oem ,so if you plan to return to stock it will be darker, now im strugling with mine because everytime I redo it, its always give me the purple color because of bad angle positioning ,mabye Im too perfectionist but I don't like that and I also scratched the inside of my cluster when removing light dust even with a brand new microfiber also a new cluster may work but its over 500$ and the mileage is memorised in the cluster itself so if you mess up your original its will be a pain to fix all that,
Awesome dude! Just wanna share a little tip for the template part... I have the tendency to screw up stuff... Found that if u have masking tape or painters tape (less residue), stick that on and use a sharpie to trace your new template.. Hope that helps!
if you dont have any clear film and only have tinted stuff on hand like me you can hold the left button on the display, and then turn the key to on and keep holding it from there you can increase the brightness with the right button, and accept the brightness with the left button
Hi..my MT09 2018 speedometer top cover with plastic has lot of micro cracks. I want to change the top cover with plastic alone. Does yamaha sell that part alone seperately?
Looks good :) My bike's display can switch back & forth between day mode and night mode. Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to see anything on the display, day or night, unless you lean in and get close to it. Not a huge deal, since it has analog tach and speedo, but it would be nice to be able to read the display to monitor the bike's functions.
I’m surprised that bike doesn’t have a setting to swap the display colors. My Z800 and my Z900 both had that option. I’ve had my Z900 in “dark mode” since I got it though. Lol
Yeah idk, the dark screen comes on the special edition MT09 SP overseas. They Just had to make something a little ‘unique’ I guess 🤷♂️ but for $20 I too can have the SP edition display haha
I haven’t seen an SP in person to compare but it also depends on the angle at which the film is applied. As I rotated the film over the screen it went through all the tint variations from super black to bluish to light. I think I was off just a bit because it’s almost like a midnight blue/black but as I rotated the film it did go completely black. Hope this helps
This is real diy. Shit goes sideways and ya make mistakes sometimes. Too many people on UA-cam cut mistakes out and make it seem easier than it really is.
To be honest I didn’t know you could change the brightness so I’m not even sure what setting mine is on. In the sunlight I can see my screen fine. I’ll have to look into the settings on mine.
RayRay3866 Maybe it’s just me, but I own the 2020 model and i have the feeling the brightness is responsive. To be clearer, when in a light environment it reduces brightness and when in a dark environment it increases automatically. Maybe it’s just me being high as a kite
I’m not sure of any places where you can send your display in for someone else to do it. If I wasn’t tinkering with my camera while doing this it would have only taken maybe 20-30 mins. Wasn’t hard 👍
“My Mt09 AlReAdY cAmE wItH a DaRk MoDe” ooohhhh gooood for youuuuuuuu!! I made this for those of us who weren’t to privileged to have a stock dark display.
Thanks for not cutting out the fails. Was like looking in a mirror :). Gonna do mine next week! Cheers
Absolutely! I don’t want others making the same mistakes I made! Good luck on yours!

Great step-by-step how-to video on how to do this. Thank you for not cutting out the obstacles you had run into while doing the modification.
No, not a great one. There are much better videos for this. But it is interesting to see him fumble through it.

Looks good. The temperature definitely affects the ability to remove the old film. When I did mine it was easily 100 degrees in my shop.
Looks sick! You did it yourself that’s what matters man. Trial and error that’s what it’s all about!
Thanks man!
Nice handiwork (and walkthrough)👌 looks much better than the stock screen did!
Thank you! Fun learning experience!

Thanks sir! We’ll see how she holds up!
@@rayray3866 Am sure it'll be fine mate :-)
Just the other day I was thinking about the display on my bike..lol the dark mode looks kool! I like it, I wouldn't mind doing it to my bike.
You should try! I haven’t seen a dark mode R3 yet!
@@rayray3866 yea, I would

Thanks for watching! Well, especially when you’re traveling at the speed of light it’s a little hard to see the display in your case haha
@@rayray3866 Not only does my bike have a dim display, but it also has a dim rider. :)
😂😂😂
Looks cool man keep it up the good work ❤️
Thanks for a no bs real world tutorial buddy👍👍👍

RayRay3866 actually, I just looked. I can’t flip the whole display. Just the “tac” part of it.
Very smart! Although I doubt the Japanese fitted any 5/32 bolts 😂. That sir, is what is called a 4mm
Thanks 😂😂 that’s what I call whatever Allen wrench fits and turns the bolt somewhat snug 😆 but thanks I’ll remember for next time
Please answer i am going to do this in cars displays linear polarized film or circular which one i use please answer !!!
Hey man, thanks for the video. Is the background as black as it is on the SP or do you see a kind of blue or red/brown tint?

RayRay3866 It does, thank you. I appreciate it.
Hey friend what is yours? Can you help me and tell me where you bought it and do you have a link please?
This is real diy. Shit goes sideways and ya make mistakes sometimes. Too many people on UA-cam cut mistakes out and make it seem easier than it really is.
Rhine thanks for watching, wanted to keep it as real as possible!
Only issue is all the scratches are more noticeable with a dark setting
I'd get a screen protector as a template saves the hassle of getting it all off in one piece
What happens when it’s daylight and the brightness on the lcd is 0?

How Mach in American dollars 2020 ?
What sheet is called?
macam mana nak buat?
Why don't you just set the polarizer in without removing the existing one?
That's a good question. Anyone?
No it doesnt work like that.
@@someguy5719 ill have to buy some poliorid and try myself...
Putting the polarizer over the existing one will make the whole screen go black. You won't be able to see anything.
@@keonitjohn interesting... And wierd 😉 but Tnx for clearing that up....
OMG!!! who does that??...

is this really worth it.. to say you could end up paying for a new screen display??. My MT09 came already with dark mode hahaha
