You can sharpen/strop the round blade to prolong its lifespan. I am in love with my aluminium nt cutter. I will prolly get 40mm straight olfa later.

What a cool tool. I bought a used one today at a great price, but what is that hole for in the safety slide? It doesn't lock it down, it's just there. I thought I was missing a part.

The thing is a round knife can make a little triangle cut like the box razor can. You just rock the tip on the edge. But with practiced tip rocking cuts a round knife can even do something as complex as a chafmered concave wedge cut. Round knives are actually very versatile. It just takes some forethought about how you're using it. Though I do like how clean and easy strait cuts look with this rotary cutter. But I'm thinking it would be better if the guard was thicker and the slide for the guard had a tension screw. That way it could be used as a depth setter.

It's not the sharpnes per se, its the mechanical action of how the blade makes the cut; Rotary blades slice.

I'm considering buying one but don't know if 60mm wouldn't be overkill for my work (I never cut thicker than 3mm leather) Do you think 45mm would be enough for this? My guess is smaller blade would probably be better for small curves if needed, and cutter and blades cheaper too maybe. How thick do you cut easily with the 60mm? Thanks

any tight curve will be difficult to cut with big one for small ones. I don't think it's big issue to cut with 60mm. it has more clearance. I like to use 60mm. small ones might have their wait while cutting. in your case, 45mm would also work but don't go smaller than 45mm. the price is almost similar.

If you're still considering, get the 60mm, 45 mm not good enough for thicker leather
