    Having used a lift gate at my previous job, I knew I had to have one. After watching your install video I found one used on Craigslist and a new install kit and had it on and running in a few hours.
    Installation was a breeze as I saw how it was done here. I wanted to say thank you for taking the time to record and upload this video.

    Thanks so much , I will be installing mine next weekend , this is a game changer for me, maybe I can get ten more years out of this 66 year old body. No more ramps loading the snow blower .

    Great video. I just bought an 06 Ram 2500 that has one on it. Mine has a taller gate that folds out further but otherwise it’s the same. Mine is missing that cover plate over the ram and pump so the only additional thing I wish you had shown in your video is the removal of that cover so I knew what it was supposed to look like in case I wanted to make one.

      It really came down to safety for me. I have picked up a few snowblowers (10hp flat tires) and I really don't want to drop the machine or slip on the ramps. Also, major time saver not having to hook up the trailer to run 3 miles down the road.

    Great video, very cool. I would love to have one of these on my 2011 4X4 F250 but it's got a 6" lift kit and I don't know if they make a lift for a truck with a lift kit. Thank you for the video, very cool lift. Having this unit is boss!👍

    Tommy Gate customer service is the best. If your lift is having trouble going down, it most likely needs new kick out springs. Tommy P/n# 3818. Easy to install

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  5 років тому +1

      I agree with you. The aluminum looks better than steel, but it still does not look as nice as the factory tailgate. The dodge's look better than the GMC and Chevy because the back corners of those trucks are not rounded under the bumper, when it is removed.

      They make them for service trucks. In fact with the service body the gate blends right in and looks better than it does on a regular truck like mine.

    I purchased one of these today. My platform doesn’t fold out (single). The guy was saying I need to get a wiring harness for my ford by my tailgate lights (his was a Chevy) ??? Also what if I do not have the Gussets? It didn’t come with them but it has the plates bolted to the actual lift. ( I am missing the Triangle shaped gussets that go in the back of the bed) ?????

    • @lov2cyanaked
      @lov2cyanaked Рік тому +1

      call tommy liftgate, you need the mounting brackets, upper for bed part and lower to attach to frame(if you have no hitch). Besides +/- from batt to liftgate, you need to tap license plate lights.

    It's just about the only way to go if you lift and move a lot of mowers, blowers, washers, dryers refrigerators, etc. Thanks, Bob. I know you'll put it to good use...just look out for all the neighbors who need you to pick-up that new "_____" they just got at "_____." :>)

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  5 років тому +1

      That is always fine. I just let them take the truck and return it. No big deal my neighbors are great, and I'm happy to help out if I can. This unit will be getting a lot of work from me. I thought about keeping a checklist every time someone says that is a nice lift.

    i'm planning to remove a tommy lift from a junkyard F250 obs truck. Your installation video has given me insight into the removal. Question. In order to lower the liftgate do i need 12 volts or can i gravity lower push the ram back inside the cylinder? Also did you weld the gap plate onto the truck bed sheet metal or just on the gate? my guess is that the gap metal slides over the truck bed but is not permanently welded. 3rd question. If i do need to apply 12v to lower could i use a motorcycle batt and hot wire it at the rear controls? Any answers will help me know what to bring to the yard. Thanks a bunch for the video regardless.

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  4 роки тому

      call tommygate they are super helpful even if you don't buy your gate from them. They can answer all the questions you have in a second. I know you need power to release the latch to lower the gate and the metal is welded to the liftgate not the truck bed. You will love your gate, I use mine about 2 times a week.

    • @obfuscated3090

      I harvest them from salvage. Jumper cables work fine as do bike batteries or jump packs. Don't "guess" and do download the instructions from the manufacturer which have exploded parts breakdowns. These gates are SIMPLE. Get the large circuit breaker and electrical cable if they're still on the donor truck.

    Hey can anyone tell me how much the value of my truck would increase for having an operational 1000lb eagle lift gate on it...just an estimate

  • @chrisssmallengines3456
    @chrisssmallengines3456 5 років тому

    Do you do a lot of house calls , pick up and drop off of the small engine repairs .

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  5 років тому +1

      Don't do house calls. I pick up locally and work on in my shop and then I drop off. I don't drive more than 10 miles. I have been having trouble with heavy snowblowers and flat tire pick-ups. No trailer needed and I can justify this thing over and over again and again.

  • @kevindove3778

    How much did you pay for the liftgate used if you don't mind me asking I'm searching for one

    • @obfuscated3090
      @obfuscated3090 2 роки тому

      Prices vary. Study your local market. Condition matters. I'd give say up to 400 for one but mine were cheaper because I'm a mechanic and have the right friends.
