I can hear the guy "this mower doesn't cut for sh*t".
Smh. Reminds me of the guy that came into Lowes complaining a chainsaw didn't cut. The chain was on backwards.
had a push mower that would try to run each spring , like this one . removed air cleaner , started and immediately placed my hand over carb to completely plug it . creates a lot of vacuum , and pulls (if possible) little clogs out of carb . worked at each spring 1st start for several years for me . bought a rider from a neighbor , both blades had been upside down since new , but his yard always looked nice . go figure .
I had a mower for years, it cut great, decided to sharpen the blade on year. Sure enough the blade was on backwards since new 😆.
I see a few upside down blades from customers each year. Spring is right around the corner, so glad!
I am ready too.
I love these engines. They have cast iron sleeves along with upper crank main ball bearings. Won’t find that on a Briggs. I run mobile 1 in mine changed twice a year and after years of use it still has perfect compression and runs great.
Nice job Bob. I'm glad to see you clean the carb the right way, take it off. So many just drop the bowl and think this will solve there problem. With it surging it definitely needed a good cleaning. With the price of today's mowers hopefully people will start fixing them, rather than toss in the trash and get a new one. This will be good for you!
Right on
Loved the torque wrench "click" at 08:08 🤣👍
I hope you enlightened him about proper blade installation.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@pattayperformance 🤣🤣
I didn't
That’s right, you want him to keep bringing it back. 🤣🤣
@@Big_Johns Change of ownership. Original (unknown) owner did the damage.
The biggest problem with just about any small engine, is the carburetor/fuel system. I had a leaf blower I used 1 season, in 2010, sat until I retired in 2022. I replaced the carburetor, fuel lines, filter, air filter and spark plug, and the primer bulb. Now, it starts on the 2nd or 3rd pull, it idles great , I had to adjust the carburetor after I got it warmed up. And it runs great. One thing I have found working on small engines, always use good name brand spark plugs. Some of the cheap China plugs are junk when new. I have found NGK, or Champion are best. That's just my opinion.
Sir you did a very good job, probably saved the guy a few bucks, and now he should have a good dependable mower. .
Love the video. I always learn so much from watching you. If I get a mower with this problem, I will know how to fix it
Worked on quite a few of the runsnomore chonda clone, when they run, they run well, but like you mentioned, you can't get internal parts for it, not one of my favorite engines to work on. When I saw the condition of the blade I laughed, I run into that all the time in my area, must be in the water LMAO, great video as always.
Lol. I've got a 5hp Briggs pusher as my backup. Looks like it was pulled out of a lake. Still fires up runs.
When I do carb work on these engines, I pull the recoil starter/shroud off to aid in taking the auto choke linkage off. The plastic end slides right off a stud. Try it next time. Great video.
I bought a cub cadet sc 500z mower with the caster wheels up front in July 2019. It has performed flawlessly and I have no complaints. I do remember when shopping for this at the dealer, they had a Toro next to it with the same engine. There are probably other brands using these Asian engines...
Nice job Bob and see you made the cameo plate appearance along with Jake on Pattays last video.
Cool Man. thanks
I can tell when you started it's wobbly the crankshaft is bent the crankshaft is no good
It looks like a decent mower. I am not a huge fan of those engines. Cub Cadet definitely isn't as good as it used to be but no one is.
Yup
Once Cub Cadet sold out to Cub Cadet Corporation, quality and longevity went out the window.
Nice job bringing it back into service. Next time you get a stuck emulsion tube try using a small allen wrench to push it out.
Not only do I not have grass to cut but it has been snowing for the last 4 hours.
Stay well, Joe Z
Okay will do.
Spit my coffee out when I saw the video title!..lol..great video as always!!..Paul
Good to know
My fav was a guy who said the mower was hard to pull and wouldn't start. i pulled back the bale and she fired right up. He said "what's that thing?" I said the brake/kill bale/lever. He said no one told him he had to pull that back to start it. He brought the owners manual with him and on page 3 it showed a starting procedure including a picture of pulling back the bale. He said, oh, I didn;t read that far into the manual! Idiot. $20 dollar idiot diagnosis fee!
It is amazing how clueless some people are! Page 3, lmao
Men don’t need maps or instruction books LOL
Amazing that not for one second did he ever wonder what that lever was for!🤔
@@thyubernoob he thought it was for self propel, which his mower didn’t have lol!
Now that is a story that will go viral!
Where did you get the extended nozzle for the sprayer ?
At the scrap yard. but they are on Amazon.
Does comparing blade position after 180 degree turn really tell you anything ? Could be bent crankshaft but also one end of blade may be bent.
Well if either is wrong I want to know. Also tells if I have to look at flywheel key
Good video but I would have liked to see you take the top cover and flywheel nut off so you could view the condition of the key.
Popping the top off would also have helped him remove the carb. Choke arm connects to to air vane under there and is easier to remove than at the carb.
Next time
The engine is made by Zhongshen for MTD and branded whatever brand the mower is, Cub Cadet, Troy-Bilt, Craftsman etc.. all the parts lookup and parts go through MTD with MTD part numbers. Also that blade is incorrect, NEVER use a universal style blade on MTD push mowers, the outer grooves are too wide and will spin off the bowtie center and the locking nubs on the blade adapter, correct blade is a 942-0741A - lucky that the blade didn't fly off. at my shop if i find an incorrect part that poses a safety risk such as a wrong blade, i'll replace it with the correct one.
Grind the "chamfer" off the socket for more bite.
Double nut and pull at least one stud at carburetor.
both good tips. Thanks
Good fix, ethanol... that damn ethanol. That'll be a decent mower for your co-worker.
Hey buddy how are you doing?
Have the SC500. Engine has been great. No start is usually that fuel filter coming out of the tank. It gets plugged very easily. Best to remove it and put an inline filter in it.
Auto choke is the dumbest thing ever. Ever.
Stripping? Don't tell me you say that too! 🤦♂️🤦♂️ Stripping is threads. ROUNDING is... Well... rounding the head.
Yup, thats usually a problem, fuel filter under fuel line going into fuel tank.
I'm always amazed how bad people treat their equipment 😂
Agreed , Some People Have No Business Owning Gas Powered Equipment
That’s a powermore engine and I would work on those any day of the week compared to a Honda. If Honda would just stud there carbs on like copy cats it would be easier to work on. I stead you have dance with 50 gaskets, intake, carb, bracket and air filter all at the same time.
The blade you took off is not the OG Blade it’s one of those aftermarket universal blades. I treat those carbs just like a snowblower and open up the pilot jet.
With new self propelled lawn mowers are $450 you are going to see a lot customers who will pay to fix their machines vs replacing them.
I’m working on a Snapper LT200 on the channel. When I’m done thinking $800-$1k bc new tractors are $2k plus.
It’s freezing out…you have the heat on and dressed to for it. Your son is playing basketball in shorts 🤣
I can’t stand cold and will never leave West Texas
Heard I showed up as a Cameo in a video. Nice! Keep it up.
You make it look easy my friend
...wedge a 2x4 under the blade and let the outside end of the 2x4 rest on the edge of the deck...the blade won't turn...you'll have an extra hand to work with......and you won't risk cutting your hand while holding the blade......Cool vid!....👍
You are so fast on that carb you could do a couple hundred a day 🤣
good job that will make him a good mower, if he will just take care of it, so many small engines bit the dust because of no maintenance !
During the "Intro", what brand of Diesel Engine is Started? Thank you in advance for the response, Bob.
Not sure it came from Imovie's sound effects
@@doublewide6 Thank you for responding.
Have a great week!
A lot of good information. Was that carb cleaner or gasoline in that van? Instead of saying down I think everybody should say grassy down.
The socket set is a life saver but snapon is very high but will last for ever
Mine is from harbor freight.
My carb was acting up on my 8hp-26” snowblower from 1985 so I took it apart and ran it through my ultrasonic cleaner with a 3:1 mix of water/simple green HD purple. Ran like new afterwards and I only use Shell Premium fuel with 0% ethanol.
Nice work John.
I DID enjoy the video...thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just ordered the Ratchet Bob, says it'll be here today! We'll see!
how do you like it?
@@doublewide6 Love it Bob! Came in 4 hours! Well worth 60 bucks!!!
Always good stuff, thanks
I usually fix at least one mower a year with the blade on the wrong way. My neighbor has one of those mowers rotting away in his lawn. I didn't want it when offered, not even for parts. There are some people that are better off hiring their lawn done for them but whatever. I make money fixing stupid.
Gracias
No problem buddy
"Lawnmower Owned By An Idiot".........friend of mine....not after he watches your video....
Looks like a universal blade on this mower, we have many coming in that will not sit properly located on the 2 round pin sections of the blade adaptor since the elongated slots are not spaced enough so customers just jam them on and they are not sitting flat to the adaptor. You want proper installation and no problem cutting plus safety use the appropriate blade not a universal!
Yup I hear that
Great job Bob!
I have been watching your videos and bought a gallon of brake kleen. I was wondering if you get carb cleaner by bulk and where you get it from? Thank you!!!
Autozone has a commercial store, Safety Kleen delivers 5 gallons as well.
Did my man just use a cotton swap on a drill genius.
If you do this stuff frequently, I suggest an ultrasonic cleaner.
Front wheel drive? Toss it in the trash.
Good one!
Bought a New Carburetor for $6.99 on Amazon and didn't clean Shit
Worked on one of these engines and I think with the right care , there good engines . That is common sense care .
Thanks Pete
Doesn't have to be more than 40 foot pounds on that blade bolt.
Good work Bob.
The Cub Cadet engines are made by a company called Zongshen
You said he wanted to know if it was worth fixing up. You never said how the mower was worth or how much the time and parts you used were worth.
Lol , love the video description
It’s made out of chinisioum! What could go wrong?
I think those engines may be a Powermore. At least the one cub cadet I had come my way was a power more ( CHonda)
But I wonder if it is close to the HFT predator, lawnmower, engine
Very similar hopefully it has a metal cam.
Did you put that in the ultrasonic cleaner?
yes
Ok thanks man 😊.
Another great video.
at some point defeat must be accepted and hand tools must be used
show me any POS thing made in China that you can get parts for?
I'm not really impressed by the chinese loncin motors & parts can be difficult to locate . However , once they are gone through, you start & run fairly well . I won't own one though , as I'll stick with my 2O year old briggs quantum that runs perfect & easy to get parts for.
Double nut the studs and unscrew them.
Thid engine reminds me of a Kolar engine , same air filter , gas tank , carb.
The Cub Cadets that come to us in Canada normally have the Kohler engine on them with Torch plugs. Main reason ethanol fuel causing fuel related issues but a lot of them with mouse nests jamming up the choke control air vane system.
It does!
Dw6 hey great video.
Thanks!
👍
But how do you really feel about it? LOL
I subscribe to your channel
I've worked on those engines since they came on the market......they were and still are SHIT!!!!
Chinese engine is a throwaway job . Not worth the effort. Why do people waste their hard earned on crap ?
Seriously, using an impact gun to put the bolt back in?
Your'e a caveman!
I thought you were going to go outside and cut the snow.
