This is between shows. It’s so the Orcas can get to know any new trainers or if any should fall into the pool either during a show or after! It’s not foreign for the Orcas to see them in the pools. Plus I highly doubt they forgot that they used to be in there with them all the time! It could be just as nice for them too! Orcas love having their backs rubbed for example and they love physical contact!
How anyone can see this captivity as a good thing is beyond me. To take an intelligent, family oriented, Apex predator out of its natural home is just cruelty. Performing tricks for dead fish filled with antibiotics in tiny tanks. Stuck in a pool that cant even compare to the natural environment that they are use to in the wild. Shame.
The only brightside is the majority of them don't know what they're missing because that's all they've ever known except the few they've stolen from the wild.
The Ville I love how you say their fish are filled with antibiotics, if they do this the bacteria could build and immunity and prevent an infection from being cured if an orca were to get an infection. You’re so brainwashed it’s actually become amusing.
desensitization or not, it is dangerous to get in the water with them. Period! What can a trainer do if a whale starts jumping or grabbing them, not much you can do!
Andrea Manoushagian The trainers know very well how dangerous these animals can get. If they didn't, they wouldn't be working there. The trainers know the risk it takes to work with the animal, but they work with the animals anyways because they love and care for them.
well, yes. there is a lot one can do if the whale starts grabbing them. the reason this goes on in the med pool is because it has a fast-rising floor. in less than fifty seconds, the water can be completely gone and both whale and trainer on dry land.
Brittany they use it when vets or whoever check out the whales. It's not there for the trainers, it's there for when they need to check the whales out if there's health issues and what not.
Awwww I hear Corkys mooing noises lol. I love her. Or was this Nakai? This was almost 10 years ago I wonder if they still do this. I wonder why they where doing it here
Again sorry for the late response... as much as i know... no, the med pool is only 8 feet deep, only pool with the false bottom floor, which can rise up within a minute( i timed it lol) in case of emergencies. so like going to the doctor.... the orcas go here... and im not sure, they probably still do....
Desensitisation training. You can see how the trainers dip in and out before getting fully in and such. It's to ensure the whales are used to the new gear being in the water with them and to also prevent future attacks. If the whales understand that when a trainer falls into the tank it's nothing new, they're probably less likely to attack. Interesting to see nonetheless. (:
S.T.G Studios just wanted to remind you that if the orcas werent there in the first place, there woldnt be any concern for attacks. Being in these tanks are very damaging for both their physical and mental health. So to be honest trainers, park-goers, and everyone who have or are still working at marineparks with captured mammals should all be blamed for the attacks and all the animals’ health.
Sofie Hangeland Paulsen Same can be said about the hundreds of dog attack each year, if we wouldn't have dogs in the first place, there wouldn't be any attacks. Also, there is plenty of evidence that these animals are in perfect physical and mental condition, but of course you decide to only belief what a false documentary says instead of opening your eyes and looking at all the other information out there.
S.T.G Studios, She’s coming out to feed him. Not only as just a reward for performing tricks, but to also make the whale associate her with a way for him to get food.
Yes, but in pools not deep enough for the whales to drown a human in and small enough to get a trainer out if the Whale show aggression... Perhaps the Whales need to have this sort of interaction just incase a trainer falls into a pool..
Have they not learned to what happened to Dawn! This is wrong in so many ways. How can anyone who watches this see this as okay. Poor orca stuck in a tiny pool, having a trainer ride on them like they are a surf board. Not only that, how is this educational, as Sea World claim to be. What do you learn when you visit Sea World. You learn that taking these intelligent animals out of their natural habitat and riding on their back is okay, that is so educational, NOT!
Andrea Manoushagian i always find it funny that the people like peta people dont give a damm of what ambye the animals feel or want. we cant ask rhem but has it ever gone through their heads that mabye the whales loved having them in the water or just that because waterworks came to a stop so suddenly that the whales were confused and thought they did something wrong? i mean we will never know what they think but i just cant stand the attitude of peta people. they think they are always right !
they did learn after what happened with Dawn, that is why they are doing it. this is called desensitisation training. basically, having the whale used to people in the water if a trainer was to fall in. Nakai has done waterworks before and never showed agression. the reason Tilikum attacked was because he HADN'T had desensitisation training, and so wasn't used to people in the water with him. the "surfboard riding" as you put it, is most likely for one of two reasons. the first reason being that the whales seem to enjoy it. Kalina (R.I.P) would love having up to twenty trainers in the water with her. another reason is if one of the other whales in the pool is aggressive, Orkid for example, they can get on another whale to exit the pool quickly and safely. this was often done if a calf was being over-energetic, the trainer would get on the other whale in the pool and direct it to the slide out.
is Makani the only whale in SWSD that has never had a trainer in the water with him? Cause Nakai had all the moves down so I am guessing he has some waterworks training.
Trish S you got me lol I started really late with the whales, im guessing yes, as far as I know, even before they stopped waterworks, I read on Wikipedia, that they stopped it with Orkid, as she gets aggressive, as well as Kasatka, i wasn't sure what they were going to do here, and i thought maybe they would get in the pool with Makani too, but they didn't.
The way I see it it must have been an amazing experience! I mean I'm really trying to imagine myself in there with Nakai! Not sure if I would do it though. It could have ended badly. Was she breaking some safety rule with what she did?
She was not, at the time. When Dawn died, OSHA banned the trainers from going into the water at ORLANDO, not SWSD, or SWSA. That means that they could have brought back waterworks at any point, but they decided to wait on it and improve their safety procedures. I personally do not believe that this is desensitization training, as the behaviors the trainers are performing are closer to water work behavior. Seaworld could bring back waterwork at any point, but again, it is a big risk for trainers to be in the water with +4000lb whales.
They would also have to bring back their theatrical shows in SD, and any other parks that would have OE. As the bigger waterwork behaviors like hydros, and rocket hops, are far from educational.
Such beautiful creatures...but I didnt know whether to like or dislike the video...I think orcas should be free in the sea...I liked....but I also dont like...with respect @Tilikum16
Corky, at least the Corky Mira is referring to, is very much alive. the Corky at SW is Corky 2. the original one lasted only a few years in captivity and was disposed of in an unknown way (most likely dog food)
Pretty sure seaworld went to try and get waterworks back and I'm sure this whale is trusted with waterworks. Maybe they are gonna surprise us with waterworks again....
why don't they do it anymore. It will be a perfect enrichment for trainers and whales to get up close and test there bond! Orcas who could easily do it are corky, nakai, katina , Takara, kayla, Ike and probably a few more!
You cannot predict how a large predator will react at any time. They don't do it anymore because it is dangerous. These animals are frustrated and bored slaves. They're slowly being driven mad. Would you hang out in the jail cell of a crazed prisoner?
Emma Potter except for, hullo, these whales are not mad. They are not in a jail. They are not being driven insane. You are wrong. They still do this. They might not show it to everyone now. But they do it with all the whales to ensure safety and to further bond with the whales.
Its always dangerous to jump in the pool with them and those trainers are Well trained for that how to handle them but if a orca attacks they never punnish them because the trainer knows that its their OWN fault if they attack

Tilikum16 i think that the transition from doing waterwork to doing nothing more likely confused the whales. i havle to say i mss seeing the deep bonds they had back then with each of the whales. when i look at videos now it seems to me as if the bonds arent that strong anymore.i saw backstage vidoes and damm it you could see the love and trust they had in each other.

Your an everyday Einstein
Keiko seapen was even smaller then the Captive whales' pools

Caitlyn Kelly they been removed those floors Hun it was no reason to bc they DNT get in water with them no more this maybe old

They still do, for emergency purposes
Have any trainers fallen into the pools with the whales by accident since this? Also how deep is this pool? Do they still do this backstage in 2018?
Again sorry for the late response... as much as i know... no, the med pool is only 8 feet deep, only pool with the false bottom floor, which can rise up within a minute( i timed it lol) in case of emergencies. so like going to the doctor.... the orcas go here... and im not sure, they probably still do....

5:08 woops!! Better luck next time on that balance lol
In the medical pool, never accident with the trainers? Tilikum16, thank you for your videos,
Thank you for watching!
❤мне так приятно спасибо
❤ спасибо вам большое за кадры

+Trish S amaya hasnt been in the water w trainers either X3
+Nightmare the Fox trish made the comment 11 months ago, before Amaya's birth :)
She is swimming at her own risk,if she gets injured or killed that was her fault.Hopefully the Orca wouldn't be blamed this time around.
Who is the trainer or employee in street clothes, is that Pete?
Ikethekillerwhale i had a closer video of the guy but no its not ken peters if thats who you mean "pete"
yeah i do mean Ken peters i just call him pete for short.
Ikethekillerwhale i just posted another video and a close up of that guy, and its not pete."ken peters
Me encantan todos los vídeos
These whales are good backups of genetic diversity in case disease ever hits wild populations.
como diz um amigo meu ...tá todo mundo louco oba....

there tasting the life jackets i think
Corky and Katina is the Best Orcas in Seaworld
Mira Craig well i think corkys dead so she is not at SeaWorld she's at the bottom of the ocean with rocks in her stomach
Corky, at least the Corky Mira is referring to, is very much alive. the Corky at SW is Corky 2. the original one lasted only a few years in captivity and was disposed of in an unknown way (most likely dog food)
Well, Corky I was accidentally rammed into by another orca, Corky II still exists.
That's not Tilly. And yes I think it's just training Incase someone calls in.
Pretty sure seaworld went to try and get waterworks back and I'm sure this whale is trusted with waterworks. Maybe they are gonna surprise us with waterworks again....
Its same like an elephant trainer if a elephant attacks a trainer then its the trainers fault
why don't they do it anymore. It will be a perfect enrichment for trainers and whales to get up close and test there bond! Orcas who could easily do it are corky, nakai, katina , Takara, kayla, Ike and probably a few more!

xxAlanahWhalexx wouldn't Takara be protective of here baby? Since she just had he/she?

no, TGrace, you are wrong. it is like a prison, wake up
Because of 4th last death of a trainer by an orca...an orca that had a horrible life in captivity
Really
Its always dangerous to jump in the pool with them and those trainers are Well trained for that how to handle them but if a orca attacks they never punnish them because the trainer knows that its their OWN fault if they attack
would they try this with Tilikum
if their smart they wouldnt
+Jeffrey Olivier no they don't even have him in the show right now, I think.
+Jeffrey Olivier yes they would if he was really sick or hurt
+David Dacus he is in the show
They didn't do waterworks with him before the incident and there's no chance they'd do it now. whenever he comes out the trainers stay on the other side of the glass
Omg what if peta sees this
eh21733 according to cetuscetus, its completely legal, it was SeaWorld branches in San Diego/San Antonio decision to stop waterworks after OSHA had them stopped at SeaWorld Orlando after Dawns Death RIP.

yay yes trainers back in the water
