The trainers are only allowed in the water with the whales in some of the pools backstage as it has the raising floor incase something was to happen. There are no plans to bring back water work in shows at the moment. :)
Desensitizing is for if someone falls in as in Keltie Byrne. The chances of someone falling in and landing stood, or sat on an orca is very slim don't you think! They are taking the mess out of the OSHA ruling.
That is a medical pool so the floor can raise. That is the only way they're allowed in the water with the whales from my knowledge. All of the court papers are public record.
Good for them! I'm glad they are able to get this kind of interaction, especially animals like Keet and some others who always seemed to genuinely enjoy water work relate sessions. Very happy to see this.
This is called a stimulation session it's used for the trainers to stimulate the whale's bodies. also these sessions are mostly done in pools with raiseable floors like this poll is the med pool witch has a raiseable floor. so if anything goes wrong the floor can come up and the trainers and staff can do what they need to do
keet is a love bug i actually got the chance to talk to one of his trainers and he told me he hasn’t hurt anyone he’s a lover he loves to be with them and he loves the company
It is good that they are still doing water desensitization just in case a trainer falls in. I doubt they will bring back waterworks, even though they can in San Antonio and San Diego.
This is waterworks- water constitutes being knee deep in water with a whale- it doesn't mean it has to be a show and this is against the rules. In fact, trainers are supposed to be 5-8 feet away from the whales even on land.
+Stephanie Merrill You might want to actually read the actual OSHA ruling because you are wrong. The 5-8 foot rule only applies to Tilikum in Florida and only during shows. Trainers and vet staff are allowed tactile sessions with Tilikum behind the scnese.
The ruling did not just apply to Tilikum and if you and everyone else would research the names of these killer whales and the countless times they have injured, hospitalized and killed or nearly killed a trainer maybe everyone would see that these animals do not belong in an artificial environment, working for food and money for the park owners and should be with their families in the wild where they belong. And the ruling states that no one is to be in doing waterwork with any killer whale unless it is veterinary care. And they recommended that trainers should be behind a barrier. This doesn't just apply to Tilikum- he's the biggest killer whale in captivity and just because he actually killed people doesn't make him any different- if you read the list ALL of these whales have shown aggression...and in some cases nearly killed people. Point is, these beautiful creatures should not be in captivity and should be released to seapens- they are not entertainment for humans.
+Stephanie Merrill Again, you clearly have not read the ruling. Waterworks are not being done in this video. This video is showing water desensitization. The trainers in this video are in the medical pool with floors that can be raised in the event that there is an issue. The barrier requirement only applies to Tilikum, otherwise OSHA would have cited SeaWorld for not doing it the other orcas. You can scream about others not doing research, but clearly you are the one who has not done your research, since you have not even bothered to read the ruling you keep talking about.
I thought they said it woud not be authorized again? What will Seaworld say if another accident occurs? "The trainer slipped and fell in the water. He/She did not wear the right shoes" ? Makes me sick. They have to release the orcas and other whales. This is not where they belong.
stormy seaward The trainer who was killed in the early 1990s in Canada fell in, she wasn't riding a whale. That park has refused to follow the suggestion that they do water desensitization as shown in the above video. And in the 2010 death, the trainer was not doing waterworks with the whale.
aphroditewitch Let's rephrase what stormy seaward said... it's amazing it took 3 deaths by 1 whale to realize how easy it is for any person or trainer to be killed by a whale. (Bottom line is SeaWorld doesn't really care that 3 people were killed, it cares about how much money they can make). Oh and about the trainers KELTIE (who "fell in"... actually she was pulling herself out when the whale grabbed her and pulled her back in) and DAWN ( who wasn't doing waterwork, but the whale grabbed her and pulled her in... funny how that whale remembered it could do that) they were people and they're dead and you're right they weren't even riding on a whale and they're dead anyway... they happened to be next to a whale, just NEXT to the whale.... and they're dead.
Kathie Lanoue Three whales were involved in the death of Keltie, not just one whale. And it is still debated which whale dragged her. Despite the revisionist history in Blackfish, all three whales had very similar dorsal fins. The fact that she was pulling herself out, doesn't change that she slipped and fell in the water. The Canadian marine park was warned that the rubber boots they made the trainers wear a fall risk. They were also told, they needed to desensitize the whales in case someone fell in. They failed on both counts. You don't offer up any solutions, you just want to scream at people online.
Not screaming at anyone at all. But thank you for pointing out that there are actually 5 whales in captivity involved in killing people and 0 whales in the wild involved in killing people.
Since all those things went wrong for Keltie and she's ..um..still dead, I'm trying to figure out if the point you're trying to make is that things got to be learned from her death? Guess that didn't work out too well since 2 more trainers have died since her.
Whether it is against the rules or not, I'm kind of glad she's in the water with him/her because otherwise they just lay in the water, get bored, don't have any human contact, ... I think they actually like the human contact (I don't mean the tricks and stuff but just the interaction). Second, it is so sad to see that this whale has to turn in such a small pool... I think orcas are so beautiful and they are such smart creatures, they really shouldn't be in captivity.
+Phellice Timmermans The Orcas actually get lots of interraction with humans through the underwater viewing glass. Some, like Makani, even speak to the visitors. But of course many people see this and what they instantly assume is "the whale wants to kill them all".
Phellice Timmermans they have 3 other huge back pools and the show pool. Most run extremely deep. This is the med poll and they had him in here just to make sure everyone was safe. If you haven’t done research don’t make allegations.
no tolerance "Back where they found them" Most of the Orcas in SeaWorld were born in the park or rescued from another park (Tilikum, for example). And anyways, while the "heartless" SeaWorld is rescuing animals, you are sitting on your ass criticizing a company that cares for their animals. Also, orcas are really struggling to survive out in the wild because of the lack of food, which is a pro for orcas in captivity. Also, one of the most common reasons people believe SeaWorld should shut down is because the migrate. But, according to RELIABLE sources (unlike Blackfish), some seem to not migrate at all, but the ones that do is because they need to avoid deadly tempatures. Therefore, if a wild orca's home were the tempature of their habitat in SeaWorld, they would most likely not migrate at all. You're welcome! :)
All SeaWorld med pools are fitted with the "rising floor" I call it the False bottom floors, if you are talking about the other one I filmed, SeaWorld decided to take them all out, SWC the one on the left back pool, SWF the one in their SUV)Shamu Underwater Viewing and SWT the one on the left back pool as well, where they have DWS Dine with Shamu.
Breaking News, because of the trainers and SW not following OSHA's rule on NOT letting trainers back in the water with the orcas, SW has been cited for $25,000. What will it take SW to understand these orcas have the capability to hurt or kill us.
If someone says “there’s a reason why there’s no wild orca attack on humans and captive orca attacks on human. ITS BECAUSE THEY HATE HUMANS” shove this video to their faces and say “Try to do this with a wild orca” no one ever done this to a wild orca except keiko or maybe Luna.
+Stephanie Merrill I'm pretty sure that's only for Orlando. San Diego and San Antonio were allowed to continue water works during shows but choose not to.
+Loreli Olien check my recent post, they have had their backsides kicked for it yet again. They are not allowed in the water with them full stop. www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-seaworld-osha-20160106-story.html
Seaworld Forever according to this site orcafreak.webs.com/facilities.htm its 8 feet deep.... and holds 67,600 gallons of water, it takes about a minute and 10 seconds to lift the floor up in case of an emergency.
livencali1 Federal Osha only had jurisdiction in Fl Ca is a state planed state I am sure maybe in the settlement agreement there are stipulations like this for medical purposes only unless you work for OSHA or sea world they would know what legally can be done or not done.
The best part of the show was when the trainers were allowed in the water. They know the risks and it should be up to them. I wish I could have been a trainer. Orca are so fascinating!
Working with any large animals has it risk! Horsrs, elephants etc! I'm glad they back in the water with them too. Because if one dfog does bite you, doesn't mean they all will! Same for the whales! Some are very sweet and gentle ;-)
Kriminal Dragon Scientists and marine biologists agree that Orca's have massive emotional parts of their brains. That's not anthropomorphizing....when it's been proven that Orca's may be even more emotional then humans. I know I wouldn't want to be locked in a cage for years, ripped away from my mother, cry cry cry again until finally I give up and just lay there...mope around...until it's time to do tricks for my masters so I don't starve to death.
Kriminal Dragon Killing THREE people proves to me ( and millions of others) That Tilly was having emotional breakdowns. Maybe he wasn't begging to be killed but he knew it was wrong and he did it anyway because he was mad at the world. I believe it's because he hated his life there so he wanted to end it and knew by eating his trainer that was a huge mistake.
Keet Is a big boy!!! I heard the whales felt like they where being punished because the trainers stoped all waterworks. So happy to see keet happy! All whales born in captivity I wouldn’t be scared to swim with because humans is all they know 😊 what I’d give to see another believe show. I bet they do water work with the whales on the DL. How did you manage to film this
in the inside look at SWF, they said they still do, the fact that they have that fast rising floor...i timed the one in SWC and it was within a minute...
personally i have to say is that is good training for the whale... If they are not used to the trainer in the water and a trainer falls causing a frenzy with the whales because they are not used to the trainer in the water like Tilikum is then it could cause a life threatening scene like in 2010. Tilikum is not aloud to have trainers in the water EVER and even before the "rule" about no swimming with the whales he was not even aloud to have a trainer on the slide-over/platform where he can come up and pull on something. These people know the risk just like tiger trainers and lion trainers if they want to swim with them i believe they have a right to. They know which whale has an aggressive behavior and the ones who don't. There will always be people who think these whales need to be released and like Keiko (who died of hypothermia just after his release) they will have to be trained to hunt for themselves and they may never join a pod in the wild or introduce "friendly" behavior toward people to the wild Orca's causing more problems then most would think. Think about the animal and the changes it would have to make not just that but the overall weather and water change.
I knew Tilikum was just a sweetie on the inside! This makes me happy because people are always like, "Tilikum is a killer, he killed three trainers." Number one, he only killed two trainers. The third was a man who broke in at night and tried to have $€× with Tilikum. But, anyways, YAY TILY! I KNEW WERE ALWAYS A GOOD BOY!!! ^^
This is Keet. Keet to me looks like a mini Tilikum judging by size not behavior. just in case people got mad at me for being mean to Keet. All I'm saying is Keet looks like Tilikum in appearance not the way he acts.
I almost cried after watching this, so WONDERFUL 2 c trainers BACK in the water with the beloved creatures they love! (If any1 disagrees with me, I respect that but DON'T give me messages if you're just going 2 stomp over MY point of view!)
I'm not 12 and I have years experience in animal are and training. I may not have worked with killer whales, but let me assure you that trainers in the water is the safest situation. If you don't understand why then you probably don't have enough animal experience to criticize SeaWorld's animal care.
They've been back in the water with the whales for quite some time, just not during the shows. Ask any of the trainers, especially in San Diego, and they will tell you they can get in with the whales during training or check-ups, but just not during the shows. I was shocked, at first, too, when I saw a trainer jump into the med-tank with Keet, but the trainers readily jump in. "Riding" them like a horse - a long domesticated animal - is such a sorry sight to see.
Lots of reputable animal experts have praised the zoos and aquariums for their help for animals. Such as Sir David Attenborough, who thinks highly of the role played by the zoos and aquariums. The zoo quest have solved many scientific mysteries, and it is of considerable help in shaping the minds of people. Its appeal to children has improved the closeness of nature and people. The breeding programs have bred lots of endangered species, and it has saved lots of species from extinction. Do not demonize zoos and aquariums which both helped animals and people. Destroying them will only bring more ignorance to the society, and it will be the greatest tragedy for nature. Just like the period of Prohibition in the USA. Only when alcohol were no longer accessible through legal means, did people find so many problems will arise. Don't let that happen on zoos and aquariums! Because we will then regret for how many species we could have saved by zoos and aquariums, and they were gone because of some ill advised activists.
Darienlover999 yep your right that's what this is. Although I've never seen a trainer on the back of one of the whales during desensitization. Have you?
Do your research- instead of justifying these whales being in captivity- how about you research what these animals are forced to endure and what life would be like if they would be released. It's sad even watching this whale in such a small pool for "water desensitization". What a sad life for this animal and all the other animals like him (obviously a him because of the collapsed dorsal fin)- how about you research that. It's not normal and indicates a problem- either injured, sick or old- and I guarantee it's not old age considering it's not unusual for captive orcas to die in adolescence. I'm done debating with you- it is pointless. Keep defending this horrible situation. Maybe someone will separate you from your family and put you in a bathtub and withhold food from you until you do some tricks.
Well that's one I have never heard about collapsed dorsal fin- maybe you should reread your research. I have researched and I could care less about seaworlds guidelines. I'm done debating with anyone who believes this crap and that these animals deserve to be in captivity and removed from their families and spend their lives entertaining people and have to live in a swimming pool. Period.
+Stephanie Merrill Ummmm.... It's "I couldn't care less..." if you're going to get all grammatical about it. :) Don't be a grammar Nazi if you can't hold up your end of the bargain.
everyone is and will have there own opinion about this but the whales at seaworld all are huge well feed and taken care of animals like you see at any zoo.... all you people saying biased things act as if you truly know but I don't see anyone getting mad at zoos for keeping monkeys in cages. Its because of the deaths that happened with the whales which if you are a level minded person you would also know that there have been lions who have attacked and killed people at zoos..and other animal killing in scenarios like these.. all animals will be animals,... just like you can have a perfectly normal dog that you had in your house and something can set it off....................should we bann people having dogs as well??
Zoos although still a form of captivity have proper care for animals. Sea World on the other hand is completely unjust. Orcas are huge creatures and no matter how big the tank is its exactly a TANK. The orcas are not free to rome they'll always hit a wall. Second of all Sea World takes the babies away from their mothers and ships them to other Sea World locations for what? People's amusement and profit. To top that when you mix up killer whales they don't just automatically bond, google "raking" its a real thing. They claim to do good for animals and maybe they do, but "breeding in captivity" isn't doing good its being utterly selfish.
ray norris Lions in the wild will attack and kill you. You're right, a dog can get "set off" by something and and turn from sweet to nasty. I'll agree the whales are well fed. I'll agree SeaWorld takes care of them. If they didn't they wouldn't make so much money. But guess what, whales in the wild have NEVER killed a person. They are well fed in the wild and they actually take care of each other. Whales at SeaWorld have attacked each other, died doing it, rake each other, engaged in incest (they don't do that in the wild). When whales at SeaWorld start acting like whale who live where God put them, I'll be ok with whales living at SeaWorld. Guess what, your local animal shelter puts down aggressive dogs and it's not the shelters fault they just can't send an aggressive dog out to be adopted. On the other hand it IS SeaWorlds fault the whales who live there act like they do.
+sidekickin721 what about elephants there giant animals no matter how big the pen its still a pen and SeaWorld doesn't take babies away from its mother if they absoulutly have to seperate them they wait at least 3 1/2 years also if you've never been to SeaWorld your opinion is 100% invalid in any argument against them
i think tilly is overwhelmed during shows all dealths accured during a show so key would have been not having anyone near him when he is performing during a show common sense.
I'm happy to see they are giving telikum some attantion b'cause he was so lonely all this time, he didn't understand why, and as they say, he is being pushed away by all the other killer whales b'cause he's not bold enough, i think if they return him to the wild he would be more lonely then he is now , i would risk my life in the water with him just for him to not feel lonely anymore , they didn't touch him for more then a year , for a killer whale that's just no life , he is so social , they should give him more attantion!
+ReviewCam maybe she guessed, an educated guess though, as Keet and Ulises do lookalike, just little things that make each look unque, i am not any expert at all, i just took the video and the dorsal on this one is touching his body, which is how keet has his dorsal, Ulises dorsal is hooked, meaning it looks like a hook lol and totally disqualifies Tilikum because this was the med pool at San Diego and Tilikum was never in San Diego.
u know I don't understand y the trainers stay with the park if u know it's dangerous y continue doing it they dont have a gun pointing at u and say get in with them. r people really wanting so badly to swim with the killer whales that they're willing to risk there lives,
Only in Orlando, the other SeaWorld parks with orcas are allowed to do waterworks if they wish but to tye in with SeaWorlds one ocean show they aren't doing waterworks. So no, this isn't for bitten at all :)
Although under great stress, I believe the whales were just hungry when they attacked. They all seemed to want more fish right before the attacks. Check it out.
Not sure why you are so hostile. Either you are a trainer, know a trainer or just think this is an acceptable way for these majestic creatures to be treated. I skimmed over the osha documents but no, I have not researched it extensively. I have extensively researched these whales in captivity and the effects on them and wild orca whales and I have researched the attracks of each whale by name. These animals (no matter what seaworld or osha says) do not deserve to live out their short lives (that stems from captivity- wild orcas don't require vet care from eating dead fish, eating and gnawing on gates and the sides of pools and being exposed to chlorinated water vs being in the wild with their families, catching their own fish, and swimming hundreds of miles a day for exercise) in captivity. There is nothing natural about seaworld or any marine park and it's sad that these beautiful whales are stripped from their families and forced to do tricks for food for human entertainment. Period.
+Christianai Salt whose with Orkid? the whale in the video is Keet, he has a collapsed dorsal fin, almost like TIlikums, but Keet is to his right, Tilikum to his left.
whose Keep? lol if you meant Keet, he moved to San Diego not SanDiago lol last 2012... if you have seen my videos, i just came from San Antonio, and they only have 6 whales there, Kyuquot, Tuar, Unna, Takara, Sakari and Kamea...meanwhile San Diego has 11, Kasatka, Nakai, Kalia, Makani Amaya, Orkid, Shouka, Corky, Keet Ulises and Ikaika. and Orlando has 7 Tilikum, Katina, Kayla, Nalani, Malia, Trua and Makaio.
I can see on her back is some new gear sea world created for the trainers so that if something were to happen the could breath go check out that video on their UA-cam page
This isn't Tilikum, this is Keet. They would never, ever do this with Tilikum. He isn't used to trainers in the water at all, and I'm pretty sure he would attack a trainer if one was in the water. They never did waterworks with him, and they never will.
This is soon wrong. Those poor beautiful whales in a tiny pool just so these humans can make money from them. Its wrong. Those whales need to be set free in the ocean where there is no walls..but just freedom.
I bet Katey was a bit scared getting in the water with ome of the largest orcas at SeaWorld. But, keet seems to enjoy it. :) great video! It’s happy to see that the trainers are doing this just Incase something did happen in the future.
no offense to the trainers but it's not just the people who come to the park but the trainers also. if every person would stop agreeing to get in the water with them without the barrier. don't u think maybe a lot of the parks wouldn't be able to continue to do what they do. I all of the creatures at the parks they're amazing to see no doubt but they shouldn't have to leave the open ocean just for entertainment would be no point in catching them cuz the parks wouldn't be open
stormy seaward Ugh oh boy here we go... You think you're being a clever smartass but you're really embarrassing yourself. It's called desensitizing. This is something we even do with dogs.
1.why were u spying on them 2.they is a chance they could be doing a test run for the saftey vests they wear if something happens 3.they have to have these or the orca can do way more damage to the trainer because its not used to a tainer being in the water with it
They are not enslaved at all. Most of them were born in human care and get so much love from the trainers. People should see SeaWorld's side of the story before judging them. I upload videos myself about SeaWorld on a weekly basis to share the truth with everyone.
ShadowLightMew EndlessOceanMew if you actually believe that you are absolutely insane. What goes on at seaworld is the definition of enslavement. Look at this quote about Morgan in Loro Parque, it really hits you. “On top of this lack of stimulation, a captive orca has no control over its life. Everything she does (and when she does it) is totally controlled by the trainers. They control what food an orca gets and when she gets to eat. The trainers control where a captive orca can go in a tank system (as the trainers close the gates when they like, not when the orca choose). The trainers control when an orca can go into another tank (at times tricking them into following them with a bucket of food). The trainers also have the animals perform circus tricks in return for their food. Clearly this is not a life. It has been suggested that in order to keep some level of control of an orca, captive orca are often kept in a constant state of hunger. ... Thats enslavement, I mean sure the trainers love the orcas and that’s cute, but it’s just cute. If one of these orcas were to be put into a sea sanctuary they would have whole new emotions, excitement and happiness. They would thrive. Here they just live. That’s it.
In all of this (these videos as well as many others on youtube), I have not seen the possiblity of the cetaceans not wanting anyone in the water being addressed. This (watched all the parts first) seems to be all about show prep. I have never seen any video of the trainers doing anything with them in the water that does not somehow relate to being in a show or involve food (to keep their interest), never just for play or having fun as the Orcas that were in the petting pool got. From outside the tank, yes, but *never* in the water with them when it didn't somehow relate to show performance. Trainers have been in the water with the Orcas for *decades* and I doubt there is one that hasn't been around trainers in the water at one time or another. With them being as intelligent as the science says they are, there would not be a need for "Desensitization or WaterWorks training" if they didn't mind (or even wanted) humans in the water with them. It is interesting to note that from SeaWorld's own data on the Orcas, the ones that were in the petting pool early in their captive lives (Canuck II, Kotar, Kasatka and Katina) in the early 1980's, as well as their offspring and tank mates from that time, are the ones that have the most trainer incidents. Several times higher even than Tillikum and his offspring. This would seem to indicate that the problems arise not from "bad genes or temperament" but in how they have been/are treated and what, if anything, is required of them from the humans trying to handle and relate to them. I never fed them at the petting pool and had no problems relating with them or being injured by them, even on the multiple occasions when one, and on one occasion two, grabbed my arm up to the elbow (in the same manner in which the final reports say Dawn was grabbed) in their mouth and pulled on me in an attempt to invite me into the water to play. Thank you.
It doesn't only apply to one park, or to show tanks. Seaworld got in bother again for this one . Check Los Angeles Times 13th Jan 2016 - www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-seaworld-osha-20160106-story.html. Rightly so too that is not desensitizing, the changes of falling into the pool and landing on the back of an orca is NIL. They were taking the mess yet again
Tilikum16 I can see by your channel that you adore Orcas deeply. I believe that you would probably get even more thrill out of seeing them wild and free. I too am nearby to an amusement park where I could see a killer whale on the regular. However for me, seeing them free in the wild enjoying natural relationships and swimming free means so much that I save my money for a trip to B.C. I have even considered moving there and transferring my workplace. I hope that instead of feeding Seaworld your money constantly to be near these wonderful animals you could consider saving it for a better cause. I understand you want to remain neutral, which I appreciate.
l respect that you wrote this kindly, but when someone has done research endlessly on SeaWorld they begin to realize all of the lies that are fed to them on a daily basis. l cannot say the whales are happy, but you cannot say they are sad either. This is one small tank out of 4 other huge ones. You can never get the same feeling with wild whales as you do with the SeaWorld ones. I’ve grown to love and appreciate each individual whale and if they are the same as humans l would say they seem rather content. l like that you care and love that you commented kindly, but l don’t think we can compare wild vs. captive whales, because they aren’t the same.
Those are not the conditions actually, It's a sign of the Killer Whale's dorsal fin being exposed to more air at the surface causing it to pressure it to lean. Nakai, a male in San Diego, has a perfectly straight dorsal alongside other Killer Whales. It's all due to the tissue leaning down.
THIS IS REALLY SAD SAD TO SEE HE IS BIG AND TRY VERY HARD not TO BE THE NAME KILLER WHALE You may shared the pool with him but not the SADNESS IN HIS HEART🙏🙏🙏🙈🙉🙊
Xxjayy ;/ it’s because he was on the surface for a long period of time and that’s why it’s the suns rays, since he was on the surface, the suns rays were hitting his dorsal fin causing the Inside dermis layer to weaken because the rays are hot. That’s why. There is nothing wrong with him.
That trainer jumped in the water with a smile in her face obviously she was excited to be one on one training this orca. Some people need to get over a lot of things and mind their own business, start worrying about global warming since there's been catastrophic weather events to show the consequences of global warming.Sea World will never release their whales back to the ocean and that's a real fact otherwise doing so is cruel to this animals and also insane. This orcas which have been fed and care for by humans could simply die they are not used to caring for themselves.People need to stop being delusional with all this demanding the orcas be released cause you all sound seriously mental.
It collapsed due to the connective tissue in the dorsal fin which is not muscle since they receive reinforcement from the surface that is where they usually are. Also since these males have larger and taller dorsal fins it is more likely for theirs to collapse. So why is it a sad topic? The Killer Whales still act perfectly normal.
Tilikum is sick, and Sea World is trying there hardest to make him better...But if he passes,it will be sad because he is a loved killer whale and is very popular at Sea World!
+ReviewCam no he has not been ill, he has been scared because of whats happened with Sealand of the Pacific, he has only developed illness within the past 12 months! get your facts right
***** traumatised is not an illness its the effect afterwords which creates an illness, so saying he has suffered for decades is not actually true, you say he has been traumatised from whats happened at sealand of the pacific (not seaworld as they had nothing to do with it if anything they made his life better then what he was living) he has recent developed an illness within the last 12 months.
+ReviewCam Tilikum never got used to swimming with people due to having spent years at Sealand of the Pacific. But if I'm not wrong this wasn't the first time he swam with someone. People say that he torn her arm of like if it's anything hard for a killer whale to do. But of course there's always this assumption that animals are always innocent and if they harm you they must have a very good reason. A frustration of the moment isn't good enough. So we instantly assume that Tilikum, being an intellectual creature at the level of humans (another stupid cliche), tried to get himself free by killing someone. And it's funny how Blackfish criticizes that she was asking him to do behaviors without rewarding him in a manner of "she made him angry" but then uses her as a sympathy card by saying that SeaWorld blamed her just cause they said that her ponytail was too long.
They actually do have this in this exact same pool, thats why its called a med pool(thats why its small too) they had another pool, a larger one which had a rising floor, they recently took it out, i have videos of them raising it so they could make examinations of the orca. ua-cam.com/video/2Z_r4ap9Dyc/v-deo.html
lol see she didnt even answer my question, dont worry yourself with people like that, they think they know everything, i dont know everything, "oh yea, keet has a straight fin" lol that why i asked what else they knew and obviously, thats all they "know"
Although I believe keeping orcas in captivity is cruel i do genuinely believe the trainers love and care for the animals as best they can
Keet loves being with his trainers, he is just like his mother Kalina and grandmother Katina. Guess he follows in the family of gentle orca's
Keet looks like he wants her in the water, and is swimming up to her freely
keets always been a gentle whale....
Fuck WhatsMyUserNameAgain the orca in that gate is tilikum
General Grievous nope it's not, Tilikum is at Orlando
Owen Norbury no that is tilly
S Co nope Tilikum lives in Orlando this is San Diego, the Orca in the video is Keet.
The trainers are only allowed in the water with the whales in some of the pools backstage as it has the raising floor incase something was to happen. There are no plans to bring back water work in shows at the moment. :)
They are working on desensitized training and they are allowed in water just not during shows/presentations.
Desensitizing is for if someone falls in as in Keltie Byrne. The chances of someone falling in and landing stood, or sat on an orca is very slim don't you think! They are taking the mess out of the OSHA ruling.
Rip dawn brancheau 💔😞
+Stephanie Merrill
You might want to actually read the actual OSHA ruling because you are wrong.
+Stephanie Merrill
Again, you clearly have not read the ruling.
+ReviewCam sea pens are just as dangerous as the being set free
I thought they said it woud not be authorized again? What will Seaworld say if another accident occurs? "The trainer slipped and fell in the water. He/She did not wear the right shoes" ?
Makes me sick. They have to release the orcas and other whales. This is not where they belong.
It's been so long since I've seen a trainer in the water.. my gosh
stormy seaward
The trainer who was killed in the early 1990s in Canada fell in, she wasn't riding a whale.
Kathie Lanoue
Three whales were involved in the death of Keltie, not just one whale.
This is just the med pool I believe
+Natalie Neighh It is, the other pools are waaaaaayyyyy bigger
+Phellice Timmermans The Orcas actually get lots of interraction with humans through the underwater viewing glass. Some, like Makani, even speak to the visitors. But of course many people see this and what they instantly assume is "the whale wants to kill them all".
Phellice Timmermans they have 3 other huge back pools and the show pool. Most run extremely deep. This is the med poll and they had him in here just to make sure everyone was safe. If you haven’t done research don’t make allegations.
CetaceanCentral But, those Big pools arent anything compared to the ocean! :/
I don't want to be very rude, but shouldn't orcas have a weight limit?
I wonder if the whales think the trainers are dolphins at times. Aren't their wet suits similar to the touch?
who knows... wonder what theyre thinking lol
Ya keet is gentle
They are testing out a new safety vest for trainers in this video. They prob changed it to improve bc the one they came out with looks different
Yeah, probabaly I just watched the video on those vests
no tolerance "Back where they found them" Most of the Orcas in SeaWorld were born in the park or rescued from another park (Tilikum, for example). :)
no tolerance They may not always be saving orcas, but they are helping the wellbeing of orcas in the wild by researching them.
AnimalLeftist I don't have time for people who don't get to know others and jump to conclusions about them.
Wasn't this when they added rising floors?
All SeaWorld med pools are fitted with the "rising floor" I call it the False bottom floors, if you are talking about the other one I filmed, SeaWorld decided to take them all out, SWC the one on the left back pool, SWF the one in their SUV)Shamu Underwater Viewing and SWT the one on the left back pool as well, where they have DWS Dine with Shamu.
Breaking News, because of the trainers and SW not following OSHA's rule on NOT letting trainers back in the water with the orcas, SW has been cited for $25,000. What will it take SW to understand these orcas have the capability to hurt or kill us.
trainers aren't alowed in the water DURING PERFORMANCES rules change over time bud
Are they only doing this at swc or are they doing this at all of them swo swt
all SeaWorld's have a med pool, but arent very visible to everyone,, who knows if they do it at the other two parks.
yeah they aren't allowed to go in the water during shows , but they are allowed to back stage.
No they are not- no trainer is supposed to be in the water with any whale! They are supposed to be 5-8ft back and on land
+Stephanie Merrill I'm pretty sure that's only for Orlando. San Diego and San Antonio were allowed to continue water works during shows but choose not to.
***** That's your opinion and not what we were discussing here.:)
Totally agree that no orca or animal should live in captivity!
+Loreli Olien check my recent post, they have had their backsides kicked for it yet again. They are not allowed in the water with them full stop. www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-seaworld-osha-20160106-story.html
Also, the Orlando ruling only applies for public performances, meaning that backstage they are not subject to it.
they are but only for desensitization training which is important if someone fell in.
was the pool deep during that time?
Seaworld Forever according to this site orcafreak.webs.com/facilities.htm
its 8 feet deep.... and holds 67,600 gallons of water, it takes about a minute and 10 seconds to lift the floor up in case of an emergency.
Was this after "Osha" banned this activity?
livencali1 Federal Osha only had jurisdiction in Fl Ca is a state planed state I am sure maybe in the settlement agreement there are stipulations like this for medical purposes only unless you work for OSHA or sea world they would know what legally can be done or not done.
OIC! Thanks for your reply.
I love Keet he is known to be gentle and sweet ❤️❤️
The best part of the show was when the trainers were allowed in the water. They know the risks and it should be up to them. I wish I could have been a trainer. Orca are so fascinating!
He looks really happy that she is in the water with him.
How can you tell?
+andysepul1 she isn't acting in an aggressive way towards the trainer
*he
No the bend of his fin shows that he’s stressed
hma the bent fin is due to not swimming deep, not stress. Btw Keet is like a teddy bear
Working with any large animals has it risk! Horsrs, elephants etc! I'm glad they back in the water with them too. Because if one dfog does bite you, doesn't mean they all will! Same for the whales! Some are very sweet and gentle ;-)
I enjoy that they're doing this. I think it builds a bond of trust and helps if a trainer falls in the water
DarkSunshine111 can be
Even though they are smart to help out did u know that?
Is tilikum still alive? Xxx
+dolphins4lifeangie he's about to die any second now. he has a chronic lung infection :(
+freakbitch no SeaWorld said he's more active and eating better so hes doing a little better right now
Kriminal Dragon Scientists and marine biologists agree that Orca's have massive emotional parts of their brains.
How did you manage to film this
Do they do this anymore?
Do they still do this in the Med pool 2022?
in the inside look at SWF, they said they still do, the fact that they have that fast rising floor...i timed the one in SWC and it was within a minute...
not a sea world supporter but the ruling was the trainers are not allowed to swim with them during performances. this is "backstage"
personally i have to say is that is good training for the whale...
+ShamuOrcaLuv Studios I agree with u about that Tilikum is not a monster.
If you don't understand why then you probably don't have enough animal experience to criticize SeaWorld's animal care.
what they making for this?????
Is Tilikum still alive?
+Melinda Brown Just about. He's got a disease and is dying. He'll probably die this year. So sad :(
+Melinda Brown Yes. Although he is very old, about 35 years, and he is also ill.
+Bennyboy138 actually he's getting better and already back with his pod and trainers!
Yes he is
Sadly he has now passed. R.I.P. Tilikum.
This isn't desensitization training...at all. I know what that looks like. They do not ride the whale or do any other behaviors. This is exciting.
They are riding on these orcas still: www.rebelmouse.com/MaralKalinian/why-is-seaworld-still-surfing--933827621.html
Orca taken from the ocean, were taught to live in a tank. Teach them to live in the ocean again.
Keet was born at SeaWorld...
spacebug30 most of them were
Desensitization?
It means that in the event someone falls into the pool the whales are conditioned to ignore it.
Robert Gordon I know what it is lol I was suggesting that's what it was.
Period.
By the way, your lack of grammar and punctuation leads me to believe that you are uneducated.
+Stephanie Merrill Ummmm.... It's "I couldn't care less..." if you're going to get all grammatical about it. :) Don't be a grammar Nazi if you can't hold up your end of the bargain.
I know it is really sad and look at that small tank!! :-[
Mrs.Grumpy4 is a great name for you. And yes, Caitlyn it is incredibly sad!
Maybe the whale they were with was very trusty
everyone is and will have there own opinion about this but the whales at seaworld all are huge well feed and taken care of animals like you see at any zoo.... all you people saying biased things act as if you truly know but I don't see anyone getting mad at zoos for keeping monkeys in cages.
Animals in zoos aren't forced to perform tricks for our amusement. They're also given proper habitats.
+sidekickin721 what about elephants there giant animals no matter how big the pen its still a pen and SeaWorld doesn't take babies away from its mother if they absoulutly have to seperate them they wait at least 3 1/2 years also if you've never been to SeaWorld your opinion is 100% invalid in any argument against them
***** maybe zoos are bad but seaworld? Seaworld is practically the same.
SeaWorld trainer riding on an orca (dated 17th Oct 2014): www.rebelmouse.com/MaralKalinian/why-is-seaworld-still-surfing--933827621.html
They are desensitizing Orcas to trainers in the water
Wish some people knew where the orcas live and how to ID then (.-.)
i think tilly is overwhelmed during shows all dealths accured during a show so key would have been not having anyone near him when he is performing during a show common sense.
This is not Tilikum, this is Keet.
Kalyn Kuhl the homeless guy that he (Tili) ate a few parts of was not during a show. The coroners report is pretty gruesome
That's not Tilikum it is Keet.
You can just see one of the females watching through the gate, I cannot tell who she is though because I can’t see the eyepatch
that is ulises
+Mira Craig Its Keet.
+ReviewCam Ulises's fin is collapsed only on the top half, not totally like Keet's fin.
+ReviewCam you can tell by looking at the eyepatch, dorsal fin, size, freckles, teeth, and tail flukes.
u know I don't understand y the trainers stay with the park if u know it's dangerous y continue doing it they dont have a gun pointing at u and say get in with them. r people really wanting so badly to swim with the killer whales that they're willing to risk there lives,
isnt it forbitten to go in the water with the whales? even for sea world? ..
Only in Orlando, the other SeaWorld parks with orcas are allowed to do waterworks if they wish but to tye in with SeaWorlds one ocean show they aren't doing waterworks. So no, this isn't for bitten at all :)
+Jack Grunnel I thought it wasn't forbidden just they couldn't do it in front of the public incase something went wrong
Although under great stress, I believe the whales were just hungry when they attacked. They all seemed to want more fish right before the attacks. Check it out.
That's it, another person thinks that zoos withhold food from animals. I'm jumping in my pool tonight and swimming a few laps.
Is that tilikum???!!
norma dessauer nope... its not hes in Orlando, this is San Diego
Tilikum16 thank you for letting me know do you know who the whale is?
norma dessauer that's keet.... it should be on the description, thanks!
the whale is Keet and the trainer is Katey :)))
norma dessauer Keet is very gentle and much calmer than Tilikum. If that was Tilikum in the tank, that trainer would be dead.
Period.
actually they do it natural fish they may be dead but they aren't artificial
His fin is bent isn’t that unhealthy
Keet is one of my favorite chonkeEe bois.
lol how about Ulises, hes a real chunky boi lol or even Corky a real chunky girl lol
@@Tilikum16 uly is cool but corky will always be the best chonk girl
The chill passive ones always tug my heartstrings
Is that Kakoe!?! Last time I went to Sea World, I saw Kakoe. 🐳🐳 Go, Orca's!!
That's Keet. He's one of the bull orcas there.
they are with orkid
+Christianai Salt whose with Orkid? the whale in the video is Keet, he has a collapsed dorsal fin, almost like TIlikums, but Keet is to his right, Tilikum to his left.
+Tilikum16 keep lives in San Antonio orkid lives in Sandiago
whose Keep? lol if you meant Keet, he moved to San Diego not SanDiago lol last 2012... if you have seen my videos, i just came from San Antonio, and they only have 6 whales there, Kyuquot, Tuar, Unna, Takara, Sakari and Kamea...meanwhile San Diego has 11, Kasatka, Nakai, Kalia, Makani Amaya, Orkid, Shouka, Corky, Keet Ulises and Ikaika. and Orlando has 7 Tilikum, Katina, Kayla, Nalani, Malia, Trua and Makaio.
+Tilikum16 yeah I mean keet
This is keet. Keet had collapsed dorsal fin and orkid does not. both orkid and keet live in San Diego
I can see on her back is some new gear sea world created for the trainers so that if something were to happen the could breath go check out that video on their UA-cam page
They should be aloud to ride them in the Med pool, it’s shallow and the water drains in less than 50 seconds so no one can get hurt or die
They are re-desensizing Tilly to trainers in the water. Getting him used to human interaction again, and up front stuff.
Its wrong. Those whales need to be set free in the ocean where there is no walls..but just freedom.
this is definitely one of my favorite videos
Why would anyone get in the water with tilicum??? Must have a death wish.
I bet Katey was a bit scared getting in the water with ome of the largest orcas at SeaWorld. But, keet seems to enjoy it. :) great video! It’s happy to see that the trainers are doing this just Incase something did happen in the future.
the trainers will be okay because that pool has a false bottom and has a lift
no offense to the trainers but it's not just the people who come to the park but the trainers also. if every person would stop agreeing to get in the water with them without the barrier. don't u think maybe a lot of the parks wouldn't be able to continue to do what they do. I all of the creatures at the parks they're amazing to see no doubt but they shouldn't have to leave the open ocean just for entertainment would be no point in catching them cuz the parks wouldn't be open
Oh my gosh wait that’s tilikum
It’s Keet, as it says on my description page, this is also SWC San Diego not SWF Orlando where Tilikum transferred to after sealand of the pacific
Poor thing look how small the pool is and won't be long before some one else is killed will never learn !
It's called the med pool, dumbass. It also has a rising floor. This is not the pool he lives in.
stormy seaward Ugh oh boy here we go... You think you're being a clever smartass but you're really embarrassing yourself. It's called desensitizing. This is something we even do with dogs.
1.why were u spying on them 2.they is a chance they could be doing a test run for the saftey vests they wear if something happens 3.they have to have these or the orca can do way more damage to the trainer because its not used to a tainer being in the water with it
1. i wasnt spying, this was shot from the Skywalks, another way to view the orcas....
How did you get to see that
They're so cute
that was up in the skywalks before... 2 years ago.
It breaks my heart to see this beautiful ocean creature enslaved in a tiny pool... ;(
They are not enslaved at all. Most of them were born in human care and get so much love from the trainers. People should see SeaWorld's side of the story before judging them. I upload videos myself about SeaWorld on a weekly basis to share the truth with everyone.
Yep, your right. Don't worry, Our Lord will have the last word.
HannaHua don't you see this is the med pool?
That’s it.
You DO know that this is just the med pool, right?
Thank you.
Orcinus Orca
Andy Jubinha a little over two years old, from 2014. Haven't seen/heard anything more recent.
So much for barriers! Desensitization doesn't require a ride!
Hope Tilly gets better
Sadly he passed away.
I feel so bad for him!! poor guy. :(
that lifeless dorsal fin smh,it's just a matter of time before the persecuted come hunting for the persecutors.
Those are not the conditions actually, It's a sign of the Killer Whale's dorsal fin being exposed to more air at the surface causing it to pressure it to lean. Nakai, a male in San Diego, has a perfectly straight dorsal alongside other Killer Whales. It's all due to the tissue leaning down.
no thanks i choose life
😂
THIS IS REALLY SAD SAD TO SEE HE IS BIG AND TRY VERY HARD not TO BE THE NAME KILLER WHALE
You may shared the pool with him but not the SADNESS IN HIS HEART🙏🙏🙏🙈🙉🙊
Yeah cause swimming with Tilikum is an amazing idea go ahead and end up like Dawn #riptilly
Omg😢y is his dorsal like that’s wow that is sad
Xxjayy ;/ it’s because he was on the surface for a long period of time and that’s why it’s the suns rays, since he was on the surface, the suns rays were hitting his dorsal fin causing the Inside dermis layer to weaken because the rays are hot. That’s why. There is nothing wrong with him.
At first I thought that was Tilly and was about to see something very bad...phew..
Thank you for sharing.i love the videos of water works with trainers.
His fin fell😿
It collapsed due to the connective tissue in the dorsal fin which is not muscle since they receive reinforcement from the surface that is where they usually are. Also since these males have larger and taller dorsal fins it is more likely for theirs to collapse. So why is it a sad topic? The Killer Whales still act perfectly normal.
Plus that had spotters so it was ok
Tilikum is sick, and Sea World is trying there hardest to make him better...But if he passes,it will be sad because he is a loved killer whale and is very popular at Sea World!
he hasnt been suffering,he just gotten sick over a month ago!
***** you honestly make no sense
as you came out with
"I'm not talking about his physical health."
when we weren't even talking about that!
I love your whales but Poor Tilikum he but be free love him.❤️😍💕😘😊😁👍😃👌😀
That ain't Tilly, It's Keet! Tilly is much bigger than Keeters.
Why not install Emergency Raising floors to take them out of the water when they are (Being Themselves) Acting Up. Lol SMH.
Keet has a straight fin I know what tilikum looks like he has a curved fin
and what else you know?
No tilikum is a lot bigger. About the length of that pool there swimming in
sIGH
lol see she didnt even answer my question, dont worry yourself with people like that, they think they know everything, i dont know everything, "oh yea, keet has a straight fin" lol that why i asked what else they knew and obviously, thats all they "know"
+Tilikum16 I'm with u on this one
If you truly loved them you would let them you would let them go.
Katharina Centers so basically you are saying if we truly loved them we would kill them?
CetaceanCentral don’t have to be so dark man xD but what you said is exactly what the top dude said. Releasing them would kill them
