  • Once again, the 1000PS Crew visited the High-Bike Testcenter in the Paznauntal in Austria. There you can rent over 40 different motorcycles and explore the most beautiful roads in the alps.

Owned a GSA and it spent more time in workshops then it did travelling. put 6k miles on it in a year and enjoyed it but BMW service is expensive and you will need them if you own one. Traded in the GSA for a Trophy and still riding it. The long haul comfort is superb and the handling is even better. Heavy when stationary but once you move off it all works. Reliable as any other Triumph and although the sell on value compared to the RT may not be as good the whole reason I still have mine is the enjoyment and comfort. Going to be hard to replace.

Man I wish the damn Alps were in my backyard. Amazing scenery, cool roads... has to be heaven to get out on those roads whenever you feel like it.

Beautiful scenery, great review. I'd just liked to have heard about initial costs, re-sale prices and servicing costs. These being the reasons I went for the Trophy, as well as having owned a Tiger Explorer and knowing how good the engine is. Engines, not whistles and bells, get you from A to B.

The Trophy is by far the best bike I've ever owned! No recalls on the suspension with a do not ride order!

If the Trophy can be built with shaft drive why can Triumph not build their other bikes with shaft drive? I would love a Bonnie but will never go back to chain drive.

mentioning the price difference would be interesting to.... because quick shifting is not THE most important I think. You should ask to eachother : what bike would you want , considering you would have to pay for it yourself !!!

I own the BMW r1200. I like it but I liked my old K1100LT more.. Much more low end torque than the R 1200. It was also better at speeds over 100mph. I felt more in control.

    thanks for the review guys.
I have a question, is the BMW good for bad roads in the country sides, do we feel the heavy wheight even if the tric of assistance is active?

Youssef Elkadiri. I have a 2008 r1200rt. I find it very good on the tight twisty, bumpy b roads that we have here in the UK. I did a 2000 mile tour on it last year and only 400 of the miles were on motorways. The marriage of the boxer engine with the suspension is perfect, in my opinion. I find that it is very sure footed and nimble, just like its predecessors (I have had 1100rt, 1150rt, 100rs). Another thing that the road testers don't cover is how brilliant it is with a pillion and luggage. Load it properly and it handles just as well as when solo. Although, luggage and pillion do effect its power, but that doesn't bother me to much. It still has enough to play between 50-100mph.
However, the beemers still have issues with ABS PUMP, gearbox, clutch and drive shaft failures so buy wisely and check history carefully if you are looking at buying one. Expect a new clutch and gearbox rebuild and final drive bearing at between 50-70 000miles. I hope that helps and safe riding

Had a 16 fjr.. was gonna trade it in for trophy, but engine noise was ridiculous. Fjr was much quieter. Although trophy handled much better than fjr. Trophy was much much more flickable. Fjr's handle like they weigh 2k pounds. Not sure if its rake or what.. but that was my reason to sell. Would own a trophy if it wasnt for the engine noise. I owned a tiger in the past, this 1050 was much louder. Guessing it was because of the fairing, not sure.

The Trophy motor was louder or the wind noise??

Touring on a Triumph is great if you want the excitement of wondering if your bike will start in the morning. It's like forcing yourself to travel with no plans. Will I stay in Italy today, or will I be able to get to Switzerland? No one knows.

aluisious Lol Is that still true even of todays Triumphs you think?

    • @aluisious
      @aluisious 9 років тому +1

It was true of my 2011 and my friends 2013, so yes. Their QC is garbage.
I also got a shock that was assembled wrong and had no high speed compression. It was rigid on fast bumps, which is great on the highway.
Utter god damned garbage, I'll never buy another.

I toured the Alps on my Trophy last year, 2500+ miles. Never missed a beat. Had 3 Sprint ST's before that & no probs with any of them. Maybe you've been unlucky!
