Sir, i have to confess that your reviews of this bike, made me bought one, instead of a Moto Guzzi Norge. I am a french rather large guy, my girl friend is a former judo champion, you get the point. Plenty of room available, compared to the Italian beauty. Mine is a 2007 type, i paid it 5000 euros, excellent body condition, 85000 kms. Need a change of the clutch, before travelling to Italy this August. Your review is made with the heart, and is so useful. Kuddos from Normandy!
Excellent review! I'm a 75 year old man in California, USA and still riding, but I'm weaker than I used to be, so I'm thinking of selling my 2011 Harley FLHTK and buying a lighter weight mc. No person is without some kind of issue, and some people criticize things that do not matter. Stay safe, be kind, and enjoy life!
I just got a 2010-my first bike. It's not a screamer and it's not super attractive. It is powerful, reliable, comfortable and easy to ride( once you get moving). It handles and corners like a dream! A great tourer or rural commuter.
I have been almost 6 months with this bike and experienced nothing but joy and knock on the wood, there has been no issues at all. I just wanted to share my reasons for buying and keeping it and please let me know your experience and thoughts and please like and subscribe for more content like this. Cheers. For the full review and the ride please watch: ua-cam.com/video/wHYdMTWzzpc/v-deo.html
I 've a 2005 1200Rt (106k km's). Got it in 2019 with new clutch. I only changed the front wheel bearing so far. Great bike, great review and safe miles over there! Grtz from Holland
I bought a used 2015 r1200RT in 2016 for about 17K US dollars. The best bike I've ever owned. The two problems I've encountered, thus far: It tends to go thru headlight bulbs about every year, and also has a leaking fork seal. I will have my dealer replace the forks seals. I do my own oil changes and valve adjustments (very easy and only takes about an hour). Changing the air filter is a real PITA, but this is true of several other bikes I've owned. I plan to buy the next generation RT when the 1300 cc motor comes out on the late '24 model (or possibly early '25). GLTA Beemer riders !
I bought a 2009 RT a few months ago for two-up touring, and have found it so nice to ride that I use it for practically everything. Great review, and I share your enthusiasm. The most important modification I have made is to add AF-Xied O2 sensor manipulators that have radically improved fueling across the board. I couldn't recommend them more highly.
I have the 2007 version with factory colour matched saddlebags. I bought the top case from Givi because it is half the price of the OEM, which only comes in silver, and for $100 i had it painted to colour match. The bike looks great. I agree this is an awesome bike, and probably the last one I will ever own.
As an R1200RT owner, I am a little biased, but I would say if you had to have just one bike, I can't think of a better bike to have. However, in the interest of balance, I will advance 3 reasons that might put off a potential buyer: 1. Cost; not just the bike itself, but all after-market gear (and I am not talking BMW-branded stuff here!) 2. Weight. Although this is a positive boon on motorways, it affects its agility and God help you should you have to up-right it. 3. Limited handlebar space for accessories. I had to buy two extenders to accommodate camera, GPS / phone. Fantastic bike though and I would never trade it in for anything other than another R1200RT..
Thank you so much for this review! I have never owned a BMW, but have the chance to buy this bike for $6.5K in USA. I want to compare the ride to my Harley Touring.
Great video! I'm curious if you could share your thoughts on the difference between your 1998 1100RT vs your 1200RT. I have a 2000 1100RT (that I LOVE) but thinking of upgrading to the same 1200RT. Thanks!
that was an excellent review of what is without question one of bmw"s finest offerings ive had the pleasure of rebuilding 2002"s ...cars.. the most lovely 630 i series.... and back to two wheels... boxers from the late seventies on up and there it is my dream machine r1200rt.. 01 with 28 k..van bc to sj costa rica where my friend runs a little pensione deep sea fishin idea i believe the beemer"s up for the the ride..cheers
There is a huge difference. 06 has better handling, better acceleration, smoother engine and updated features. The only con would be the servo brakes on 06.
Never had a FJR but I had a VFR and know that Japanese reliability. I would say R1200RT is in a different league and life style, would not disappoint in terms of Engine or transmission but you might get a fuel leak or an electrical issue every few years, but that would be it, RT would be probably easier and lighter and less sporty than the FJR.
Hi, I own a 2005 RT in the nice red colour and often ride with my mate who has a 2007 FJR. He is very quick on the straights but in the first corner I already pass him on the inside. In terms of power the FJR is sportier, but in the terms of handling it really is the Beemer

Thanks for your great comment, enjoy your next travel, stay safe and RT is the best, it gives you almost everything for a fair price;)
You made a great decision. Change oil every 8000 km and put in a Liqui Moly 1580 Motorbike Oil Additive - 125 ml.
👍
I toured southern france and my RT cooked me alive
Did you change that clutch yet? I watched a few videos on older RTs and the clutch is such a slog or very expensive at a dealer....doable, but HF...

I have seen too many riders same age as you riding on R1200Rt. I think it is a great choice, no so heavy and handles absolutely perfect.

It's a hell of a bike. I had one--or two. But the GS is pure FUN.
👍
I have one of these , but never had a GS . Can you tell me what makes the GS more fun ?

You are a true RT man, 👍
I purchased a 09 R1200RT and I was so impressed with it I also purchased a 2018 R1200 RT I don’t know at this time which I like best
4/13/24-looking at a 09 with only 9k miles at $5k. Very well taken care of. I feel it’s a steal. Thanks for a very informative overview.👍🏽❤️
Bargain, grab it, you won't regret.

Thanks mate, RT is so good for everything that will be a keeper...

Yes, lovely bike, enjoy as much as possible...
I have the same year bike and have had no issues with it. Mine has 80000kms on it now.
2010 RT is a great year...
@@MaxReviewss good luck with yours and enjoy.

It's a lovely bike, enjoy riding it...
I’m on my fourth R/T. Superb motorcycle
Lovely bike, I am on my 2nd. But including K1200LT, 3.
Great overview. I have a K1200GT 2007 and it’s the best bike I’ve owned. But I miss the tone of a twin.
Thanks mate 👍

Much easier to ride the R1200Rt. Much smoother idle too. Love the tech too.
Great review Maxi 👍👏🤩❤️
Thank you :)
Good review, thanks.

Thanks mate, enjoy the good old BMW :)
Excellent work
Thank you 😊
Max, how do you compare the '98 to '06? I'm currently looking at an '96 and a '08.
There is a huge difference. 06 has better handling, better acceleration, smoother engine and updated features. The only con would be the servo brakes on 06.
@MaxReviewss thanks...did you like riding the '98?
Thank you its lovely review 👍🏻
👍
Mine qustions is it reliable and expansive to maintain i look at a fjr 1300 07 or a rt1200
Never had a FJR but I had a VFR and know that Japanese reliability. Rt1150 or maybe the 1200 the same if i can get a gs
Hi, I own a 2005 RT in the nice red colour and often ride with my mate who has a 2007 FJR. He is very quick on the straights but in the first corner I already pass him on the inside. In terms of power the FJR is sportier, but in the terms of handling it really is the Beemer
I agree with you
Nice summary
Thanks mate 👍
Would you consider a 2006 with 110K km a reliable highway commuter assuming regular maintenance?
Only issue might be the servo, they are not reliable and I do not recommend a removed ABS at all.
I have 2006 RT and this is the best bike I could buy
It is :)
Of course the 2010 model was less expensive, it’s 14 years old!
👍
I understand that you like your finger very much.
Ha ha 😂
💘💘💘💘💖👌👍
Oh please.
👍
Enough with the finger pointing!
😀
منم یکیشو دارم ۱۱۰۰۰۰ مایل روشه
Great choice, great bike refigh :)
