I love how Garchomp has been a competitive Pokemon since it's premier for a completely different reason each gen. From a physical attacker with outrage as its best dragon STAB to bulky hazards setter to mixed attacker with fire coverage. It even got a mega evolution that changed how you use it.

Honestly, we’re at the point where I feel giving it DDance wouldn’t break it, especially considering stuff like Roaring Moon being faster AND stronger, which nothing did previously, at least in OU. Not to mention, like you said, the existence of Dondozo shutting this set down. Garchomp of all things being mostly a spikes bot just feels wrong.
Swords dance and scale shot on Garchomp will probably be better in gen 8 if Garchomp got dragon dance. Two stages of attack provided by swords dance is crucial in threatening knockouts. Garchomp's earthquake after one dragon dance can not 2HKO Slowbro and Hippowdon. Dragon dance Garchomp's earthquake would also not be able to OHKO Melmetal, bulky Volcarona, or Urshifu. Swords dance and scale shot Garchomp would even better than a theoretical dragon dance Garchomp in gen 9 due to the addition of loaded dice. Loaded dice guarantees a 90% accurate 100 base power dragon STAB that boosts speed by one stage. There is no longer a possible risk to scale shot's fluctuating power. Opposing Pokemon can no longer gamble for less hits to survive scale shot.
@@LuNB25 yes and no. The only reason people don't use Chomp in a Lando metagame is to not double down on the ice weakness. Even when Lando is available and popular, Chomp still has a good usage rate.
Garchomp is nuts. I remember in gen 6 OU when people kept trying to get Mega Garchomp to work but regular Garchomp was just so much better. Good times. But yeah Garchomp will always be good unless it's like gen 20 and maybe base 800 stats are the norm. You should cover Scizor! It's so good at hazard stacking as a result of it being so good offensivley. Garchomp can threaten a lot of things therefore can take advange of switches.
If Garchomp can survive even when Gen 9 buffed Ice types and one of the most used pokemon is Chien-Pao then it's fair to say it will probably always be OU, unless an even better Ground/Dragon pokemon gets released. Weavile was at the top of it's game in Gen 8 but everything changed for it when Chien-Pao appeared nonetheless.
Garchomp the goat, I remember competitive talks back in the day, even when it got banned I saw people say "its not that garchomp is overpowered, its that other pokemon are just too weak" and "garchomp is perfectly made the rest just comes up short". I doubt Garchomp will be powercrept, it just has the most solidstats, typing, and abillity if it does, its cause ou is just mini ubers at that point, or they somehow just make a better garchomp
Yeah, and don't forget that Breloom is still OU, with its only stat over 100 being its 130 base Attack. But that's really all it needs stat-wise, thanks to having Spore, Technician, STAB on Mach Punch and Bullet Seed and the existence of Tera types for it to turn Tera-Fire so it can resist Fairy-types. In fact, it only dropped to UU once in Gen 7 before being banned to UUBL.
@Jhilam Hazra Ttar pretty much lost everything, unlike garchomp . It lost perma sand, pursuit , it's mega, and it doesn't even have any sand rushers, which unfortunately makes it unviable in OU atm. Chomp got extremely lucky by getting spikes this gen because if it weren't that, I don't think he would be doing well in OU rn .
It's crazy to think that now, 130 attack and 102 speed is considered average. In the first 3 generations, 130 was the highest non legendary attack stat, and the 5th highest in OU (the other 4 are from pseudo legendary) it was considered crazy high. Gen 4 only brought two Pokémon with higher attack, rhyperior and rampardos, so 130 was still very high when garchomp was created. Now even without the Pokémon home, there are 12 Pokémon with more than 130 attack stat in OU, and with national dex, it's more like 40. Same for 102 speed, now garchomp is the 22th fastest Pokémon in the game with more than 110 attack, not counting Pokémon that aren't in SV (otherwise it doesn't even crack the top 100) where as it was the 8th fastest in dp. We can clearly see that what was previously exemptional and reserved to a very small group of viable Pokemon is now very common among good pokemon.
The Great Sand Shark is a perfectly crafted Pokémon, whose entire kit is perfectly built to make it adaptable to a multitude of playstyles, from offense to setting hazards, and doesn't feel "forced" or carried by an over the top move/stat/ability like for example Dragonite with Multiscale. I love this kind of Pokémon
Important thing to mention about base 102 speed, not only do you bypass base 100s with max investment and a +speed nature, but you also outspeed the base 115s without a +speed nature (and those base 115s are so good because they still can outspeed base 100s without having to go +speed)
Not related to the video itself but I just noticed that there's an outro(which is a YOLOskarm reference I think?)which is somehow even better than chomp's singles career
While Chomp is UU due to usage, I doubt it’s staying there. It’s too oppressive in a UU that looks like the last Gen UU. Sure some pokemon got coverage in the likes of Triple Axel but that mive has been around and with less pokemon able to learn it. Not to mention Scale-Shot Swords Dance is so oppressive that it can be used in UU. On top on top of S-Shot breaking sash it’s a 100-125 Dragon Move that doesn’t lock in the mon like Outrage did. And it raises Chomp’s Speed every use. Also, Tera Grass Tera Blast builds can eat up Dondozos, and still his physical bulky steels where it hurts anyways. If you wanted an all-out bruiser.
Don't forget his other awesome ability, which historically was so broken it got banned - Sand Veil. Put him in a sandstorm, and foes will have a decent chance to miss him entirely. Thought you had him cornered with Ice Shard or Ice Beam? If Sand Veil activates, think again!
The only way garchomp can fall from viability is if they flygon him and make a slighter better in every way dragon ground type in the future. Or like, a hundred ice types.
All it takes is the right combination of stats, ability, movepool and type for a new pokemon to make Garchomp obsolete. Maybe its gonna be a Chien-Pao vs Weavile type of thing where one is so broken the other can still hope to return.
My favorite Chomp spread is easily Jolly 178 HP, 92 defense, and 240 speed. You beat the base 100s, survive a guaranteed 4 Seismic Tosses, and the rest goes to defense because most contact moves are physical anyway
14 years, it has been 14 years, and this thing is still ranked A- in OU single. This is kinda like Staraptor in previous generations where it refuses to be put down by powercrept (Raptor was UUBL from gen 4 to gen 7). Ironic that both were introduced in gen 4.
It will always be OU as its a very popular Pokémon from the main series games and very cool looking. Also its movepool, stat distribution, and typing makes it almost perfect and always viable.

As soon as it goes to UU we just need to add 1 more move to its moveset. Dragon Dance. It's got a good mix of Bulk and Attack with a good speed tier. One Dragon Dance boom you outspeed most scarfs as well(Something which Dragonite lacks and has a much more bulk than Roaring Moon(Cinderace's u-turn i have seen sometimes to over 60% damage to Roaring Moon, yeah it's a type match up thing but still something to be noted) If DD garchomp is not in OU, it's gen 70. Where the starters are psuedos lol. Also RIP Tyranitar
I read a number of comments saying that it's sad that Garchomp has to run a defensive utility set in order to be viable. To that I say; not really? I mean, yeah, it's offensive sets aren't as common or consistent as the defensive utility sets, but they really aren't bad. If anything, seeing someone think their Garganacl can just come in and get either a free Stealth Rock or Salt Cure only to see it's HP drop within 2HKO range, it's a thing of pure beauty. And even if you go with the more consistent option of the Spike stacker who can shuffle with Dragon Tail, that's a dangerous set your opponent should never write off. Remember, even with minimal Attack investment, it has STAB Earthquake coming off of a base 130 Attack stat with Spikes chip damage on top of Rough Skin+Rocky Helmet. It also has other teammates that can easily take advantage of those advatages: Gholdengo can blank both Rapid Spin and Defog from Corviknight and get a free Nasty Plot, Chien-Pao really appreciates the extra damage from Spikes to turn a check into a KO, Volcarona loves to see Special Walls have a harder time switching in with Spikes up and several top tier Knock Off or Trick users can remove Heavy Duty boots so that only Flying-types or Levitators can come in at full HP, Pokemon who would rather not want to deal with Ghouldengo or it's friends. Yeah, it's not the first thought people have when you think of a dangerous threat in Gen 9, but Garchomp players are more than willing to remind people that it's still OU for good reason.
I feel like Garchomp already has been power crept in a way, Garchomp is no longer the ideal offensive dragon type in a lot of cases and Dragapult kinda seems to have taken over in those cases since its Special Attackis higher its a better mixed attacker, and its faster meaning that even tho its weaker physically it can outspeed and win the 1v1s it needs to and it can pivot with U-turn, but I could be wrong and biased towards my favorite pokemon since I use it over Garchomp
What would be a good EV spread for a spikes, rocks, dragon tail and rough skin garchomp? I like the sound of that move set and play style but how would y’all recommend I spread the evs?
Will regieleki and miraidon be a good combo if eleki still has rising voltage, or will it be better to use a pokemon with a more unique typing like scarf kyogre or basculegion. I will need to take into consideration terastalization because calyrex might conflict with coverage because of it being one of my future main Tera mons and without tera ice it can not deal much damage to . Regieleki can provide hazard removal as well, but it could end up dead weight because of its stab typing being covered by miraidon. I am not sure. Speaking of rising voltage and miraidon, it could end up getting rising voltage through a future tutor because no mons currently learn it because there are no tms for them it could probably only be transferable mons with the move that learn it but there is still the possibility.

Excadrill next ?
Not in Gen 9

Give it like 2 generations and it may join Tyranitar in UU
Why isn't ferrothorn in the exclusive club of Pokémon that are still OU in fan 9? 🧐
not in gen 9 yet, will def be in that club
