Have you made or bought curtains??? I made some easy just sewed and cut a larger black curtain and mounted two identical curtain rods via zip ties to the grab bars in front & back! It’s extendable so it reached to the back windows and doesn’t sat or anything because the curtains aren’t heavy. Throw something in there he front like a shade viser, and in the back simply put a blanket or black large curtain. Over the rubber lining and close the back window to hold it in place. Works like a charm and gives me so much privacy.
I have an 07 keep patriot and I just put a blow up mattress on top of the seats that are folded down; since the seats all fold in relatively flat in the floor, I have more head roo Vertically abd stoll can use the front seats and area directly behind front seats for storage. I also utilize a mesh roof organizer to store blankets and pillows.
I like the platform. Especially the headroom extension. One of the best yet simple designs I’ve seen. Might try use a trekking pole for your cook table when you pull it out for more stability. Love the lights !!
jake kuick I love ramen but that set up deserves something much better! You could have made ramen on a hiking camp stove lol make some fajitas or something next time dude!
1 yr later, I just made a very similar set-up. Except i have a Ford expedition. So i have an additional 24" extension. So for the most part, ur set is my set up. Different SUV. Thx for sharing! Good vid
For those interested, a larger piece of wood on the base would not have any more or less overall friction. All that matters is the weight of the object and the surface material - the size of the contact area doesn't matter (unless it's so small that it digs in).
Just cut the frame for the sunroof today am installing a rv fan, 300w solar panel lol youll love how i mounted it and a dometic fridge to keep my beers warm. I kinda dont wanna share my secrets but YOLO. Clean job btw safe shredding my dude
U wanna take the passanger headrest off shimmi the seat foward as far as itll go then recline the seat back all the way... dont even need to tap into the trunk or fold the back seat down more space for your camping gear. Only catch is you gotta ram the sucker into place its all cushion so go to town and get it as flat as u can then put a pillow in the reses where the seat folds...
Seriously though with those lights, my patriot only has the outlets in the center console, how do you get them up without them being in the way while driving? Thank you! 😊
Hi, Jake. What are the dimensions that you use? You don’t mind give a brief idea on how to build it, will like to get the materials and try doing it my self. Thnx
You could if you wanted to, add a leg for the bottom of the drawer for more stability. Just cut out a little notch on the bottom of the unit itself so that it can slide in and out.
Jake, this is so great! Couple questions: do you recall roughly how much this project cost in materials, and how many hours it took to complete? Thanks, can't wait to get started on mine!
I have a 16 patriot that I camp in quite a bit. I got some in-channel vent visors and love them! I can keep the windows open a couple of inches without it being obvious I have them open and they keep rain out. Best $50 I’ve ever spent. Has anyone with a patriot figured out a way to mod it so that the rear gate could be opened from the inside?
Simple and effective. Could probably lower it a bit and the lightweight approach is great. Beeswax is an good idea, Or you could finish with a high grit sandpaper on the contacting panels? Thanks. Hope all is well. Cheers.
This is really awesome! Im so sad that I bought a Patriot without the fully foldable passenger seat. My LOVE/hate relstionship with Jeep isnon this ice 😂
so i've been studying these setups i'm trying to figure out how to make 3 more leafs to go over the center console and the sides of the seats i'm too godamn tall 6'5 definitely roughing it currently.
Hey I have a Jeep Patriot 2015, looking to make a similar set up as yours for long weekends to golf, music festivals, etc. I am loving your set up, but am thinking to put in shorter drawers and add a couple drawers to go out both of the passenger doors. Mainly to wash up, keep some snacks, electronics, etc. I’m thinking I will like not having to walk around to the back all the time lol. I’m also thinking I would like to drop down stands for the end to make it more sturdy. I wanted to ask your thoughts about these two ideas as well as a ask if there is anything you would change or suggest beside what is mentioned in your first and second video?
Sounds like you're on the right path with your build. Only thing I would like different with my build is I would've made the whole thing thinner (less height) that way there is more head room when sleeping. Good luck with your build and upload a video when you're done!
Just saw this vid, but do you still have the jeep patriot? Thinking of getting one , a nice mid SUV, in the Mojave sand color. but on the fence about it. Previously owned a jeep renegade which gave me a terrible experience constantly going to the shop with the moon roof and fuel sensor problems
I have a 2016 Jeep Patriot, this was super helpful. Do you sleep on a mattress or just sleeping bags on top of the plywood? Have you noticed how much weight is too much weight when it comes to stalking stuff in the drawers? And just to make sure, you said you made 0 modifications to the seats?!??
I would put camp pads on there (2-3 inches thick). I loaded up the skate drawer with like 75 lbs one time and it wasn't too hard to pull out! and correct, no modifications to the jeep itself
Hey! I have the same jeep patriot. I was trying to figure how to make this setup. Do you have every measurement of each pieces to make it ? Would be really nice. If not I will try my self. I'm trying to save money and wood. Thanks :)
I built a similar set up and I want to add something to lock the drawers in place while I am driving. Any Ideas? I was thinking about drilling a hole in front of the drawers and putting some type of pin that keeps it in place but not sure what to use as a pin?
The back seat of my 2013 Patriot doesn't lay completely flat, it's angled up a few degrees towards the front seats. This is why I gave up on building a platform. Did you have the same problem, if so what's the fix?
Does the Patriot have an alarm/security system where it protects the vehicle from unauthorized entry or operation? Example: If the doors, liftgate, or windows were to be broken will the security alarm trigger the vehicle’s horn to sound and the headlamps, parking lamps, and/or turn signals to flash repeatedly for a predetermined amount of time? Thank you in advance.
Awesome idea and video! I want to do the same to mine. With a 10" tall box, is there enough headroom to get in and out for sleeping? I am thinking of doing 8" deep boxes instead to give that extra headroom
Jake! I am currently camping out of my 2010 Ford Escape and was thinking about getting myself a Patriot. May I ask how it has treated you in terms of reliability throughout the years as well as road trips? Have you ran into any major problems on the road?
I own a Patriot Limited 4X4 myself. I like this idea I really do however it would be a bloody nuisance to remove all that gear to access the spare wheel when necessary.
Jake hi I have a 2015 Patriot 2.4 high altitude. I felt limited in trying to create my camper due to size of Jeep. I’m 5’6 250 lbs. my question is how do you enter and exit the camper? I’ll be in mine in April 2020
Tina Daniels we have a 2009 and we have used a twin air mattress in the back with the seats folded down. Used side doors for access. But we were just overnight camping during traveling.
yes i have one as well, how did you hang yours ? i didnt know how to hang them so i just got colored lights and put them under my seats but they would look better up on the roof of my car
Hannah Hart This isn’t my Patriot but they make command hooks for Christmas lights. They have them on Amazon. My 13 year old used them to hang lights in her room and they’re great.
My concern is that you don't have any protection from the wood in the event of a rollover or other accident. Most people I've seen fasten down the bed.
Awesome job on the video my friend. Loved it. Beautiful setup Also i like what you did with your channel . You have my subscription would love to have your support as well. Thanks again ATB Joe 😎 👊🏻

this was perfect thank you! The mini mattress i have is exactly 70 by 38 and this answered my questions about jeep perfectly!
Glad I could help 👌

i’ve been wanting to do this in my 2012 jeep patriot! thanks for the video, definitely gave me some good ideas for a set up i could build!
I think the wood sliders are brilliant.
Great rig Jake. Thanks for sharing your setup. It’s helping me figure out my interior build out.
Definitely going to have to borrow some of these ideas for my 2016 patriot for when I go camping at race tracks throughout the summer

I remember seeing an L shape set up, 1 person, keeping the small split seat up and for use and better for me. Good job!
I bet you could glue strips of a laminate to the drawer slides and under the edges of the drawers, and they would glide better. I love the idea!!
that's a really good idea
You did a nice job, you are overkill on the 3/4" plywood, use 1/2 or even 3/8", save a lot of weight
or it would have been much better if the 1/4 Marine plywood. The heavier the vehicle the more it consumes gas!
What would be the best plywood thickness when the platform would need two fit two adults (~370 pounds)?
That neighborhood looks like heaven

Awesome setup. I'm graduating from my minivan to a teardrop camper I'm building from plywood
I'm going to do basically the same thing but I'm going to have a cabinet in mine . And I'm going to be able to remove it too

For airflow you can get a couple window screens at www.roadieproducts.com. Keeps bugs and rain out.

Hello. Just wondering I have a Jeep Patriot as well. How did you get around the fender inside on each side
This is what I wanted to know. Did you get an answer
Im sorry I don't quite understand what you mean?
In the inside back of the Jeep Patriot you have on each side looks like fender wells they are about 10” high. Did you cut around them ??

where's the spare tire kept on the Patriot?

No, I got rid of it many years ago. I had it for about 3 years and put 100K miles on it and it served me well. Ended up buying a VW van
Out of experience I’d make a way to access my spare tire lol.
2:00 queue the Jeep Gladiator ;) he knows
Was actually just a wrangler! I don't think the gladiators were out when I made this video ;)
Could your Jeep tow a trailer? If so why not tow?
it probably could but most of my campsites it would be hard/ impossible to get a trailer too. Also hard to stealth camp in a trailer
My concern is that you don't have any protection from the wood in the event of a rollover or other accident. Most people I've seen fasten down the bed.
As i have been in a rollover...i agree. This would be a not so good situation hitting you in the head or back in case of a major rearend collision.

why is everyone using tiny suv's for their camping setups? like a gmc yukon xl, or ford expedition max has so much more room.
