I have a competitor 165 tiller with a 70 hp yamaha. It's great it reaches speeds up to 35 mph and is very fuel efficient. It has the rpm adjuster for trolling so we can back troll as slow as .8 - 1.2 mph for pulling spinners for walleyes. I like the open layout of the boat it's easy to get around if you're playing big fish. It has tons of storage so we can store away all our tackle and gear without having anything lay out. I have lots of rod and reels though I wish the rod compartment had room for a few more rods. I also wish I would have done something different with the electronics and trolling motor like you did. I only have one sonar / gps unit in the back, nothing in the front. And my trolling motor runs with a pedal, wish I would have gotten the link system instead. One other thing, a lot of other boats like lunds have drawers in the back for storing pliers, tools and misc items. Wish this boat had something like that. Other than that I love it. Thanks for the vid it gives me ideas on how I can make upgrades.
Thanks! I considered the Yamaha as well, would be interested in your thoughts on it if you do! You won't regret the boat either way it's a dream to fish in.
Great video and even better boat. I am sure I could pull that with a Grand Caravan fully loaded ... I hope. I fish French River, Peterborough area and Lake Ontario around Pickering/Ajax/Whitby.
I've installed a Lowrance Elite 7 Ti on my 16 ft aluminum , and am still playing with the transducer adjustments to optimize the on screen quality. Do you have any screen shots of fish you could send me so that I could compare . Thanks! Glen , Parry Sound
Thanks for watching John! For Simcoe it can handle it for sure but you'd be more comfortable getting a 175 or 185 for water that big. Sitting still in waves is not the issue but the longer boat will run better in them.
Nice boat. Great video. One question....why would anyone hesitate to drill a hole to run something like a wire? Make it work for you. Even if you were concerned about drilling a hole, it could be filled back in later anyway. But nobody would care if there was an access hole. Its a boat. Enjoy it.
beautiful setup, question for you. When you are trolling with you big tiller, what is the slowest speed you can reach? could it be less than 1.4 miles? thanks for sharing your experience js
Can you give me more details about water leak/ dampness in front storage? I have the exact same boat and my front storage compartments are always damp. I've been trying to figure it out for awhile. Loved the video. I've got a 60 Suzuki on mine 13 pitch prop. 33 mph by myself. 30 with a passenger.
The front port side seems to get wetter. No clue how the water gets in to be honest I haven't dug too deep into it. I have just changed how I store stuff in there to compensate. Possibly the cup holder up front??? 33mph is pretty good, I get 30-31 but run a 4 blade prop, am thinking of trying a 3 blade this spring to see if I can get a bit more.
TheGrumpyFisherman Yeah it's the port side on mine to. I've never thought of cup holders though. Maybe run some silicon on the bottom or something. Mine is a 3 blade. I'm putting an i-pilot terrova on it next weekend. Lol lots of snow and ice still in Manitoba still.......
It handles waves quite well for it's length, I think due a lot to the weight. It has 35 inch sides and a V-hull, and for the most part can ride at speed atop 2-3 foot rollers no problem without much bounce. I would recommend if you plan on fishing open water like the great lakes you go to at minimum an 18 footer. This one's designed for inland waters.
Fantastic videos on your rig. Great job! Love the boat. Wish more guys would go into the detail you do. I’m al looking into a 175 or 185 comp tiller now. Great boats for a great price compared to competitive options. I have a CC now, but with a couple smaller kids on board, I like the idea of keeping them in front of me and allowing me to keep a close eye on them. Think I’m going to check out the 165 after watching your vids. Did you get the water leak issue into the front storage compartment taken care of? Curious to know what caused the issue and how you took care of it.
One more question. What are the dimensions of the two smaller front storage compartments? I’m curious how many Plano 3700s they would take. I switched over to those from a traditional tackle box and love it.
Thank you sir! The water issue is the cup holder. There are holes in the bottom of it for drainage but it then drains right into the floor. No fix yet its not that big of a deal so far but does tend to get damp in the forward compartments. As for the front storage, they are big. They go under the floor right to the bow. I would guess depending on the size you could easily fit 15-20 planos in there. Glad you enjoyed!
I sold it 2 years ago. I believe I had a 13p x7 on it and it would do around 2.1 or so at idle. Mercury Vesselview could improve this but it all depends on your prop/weight etc. Thanks for watching!
OK, I enjoyed your video for the most part. I really like your boat! However, as a non-smoker, I don't understand why you need to hold a cigarette while doing the video. Maybe I'm just being grumpy. lol
I have depleted the starting battery once, while I was at a cottage for a week this summer. I don't have the specifics of the cooler brand or electricity usage but my guess was leaving it running while the main motor was off is part of what led to depleting the battery. As for the cooler it was bought for me as a gift and fits about 6 cans of pop. Keeps them freezing cold so can't complain. Keep in mind it was the end of August before the battery finally ran out of juice, and I used the fridge and other electronics all summer with no issues prior to that, so I don't imagine it uses that much power.
@@TheGrumpyFisherman I had an electric cooker deplete the batteries in a semi once too. The guy that I bought the cooler from warned me that it uses alot of juice and to unplug it when I want at work. I forgot.
Great boat bud everything connected nicely and working in sync is priceless. I agree, the deep cycle would be a good option too. How quickly does the solar setup take to charge the batteries and can you get multiple trips in before reconnecting it?
Thanks! I charge it before each day one way or another. With lead acid batteries I wouldn't try multiple days, they have to be kept above 80% I think so you would be wearing them down fast doing that. As for solar depends on sunlight, but on a sunny day they are good by the end of the day, they are 100 watt panels so in direct sun they provide about 8 amps each.
Really well laid out review of your boat. Thank you for explaining the nitty gritty of the pro's/con's of your setup.

Nice rig! I'm looking at getting a 165 as well with the 70 yam.

1000 lbs is pretty light boat. Fiber glass is heavier brother
Looking at getting a bigger tiller motor boat like this sweet baby would you take it to some inshore
Does your motor stay straight when trailering ?
No I used a transom saver on it. Sold this one about 3 years ago, I have a 185 competitor now.
Awesome rundown of the boat thinking of buying one next yr and could take any advice from u possible would be fishing Simcoe mostly

nice boat and motor. what is the diameter size of your propp,(pitch is 13) and what is the max rpm you can achieve?tnx...
Thanks! 14 inch diameter 4 blade Stainless Spitfire, gets up to 5800 rpm.
Nice video and sweet boat!

Slowest with the mercury is 2.7 mph with the prop I have.
You sure your name isn’t Dan Ackroyd?
I really like your boat and thank you for making this video i am really interested in the boat model and i will probably pick one up. Thank you 😎

does the front bounce much in wake?

Great video, great boat. Thats a hell of a set up! Where do you fish and what do you fish for?
All over Ontario mostly Al. Lots of vids on my channel and pics on my instagram as well! Thanks for watching sorry for the late reply.
Just wondering if the rivets on the boat are a problem?
No. It has a lifetime hull warranty as well if there is a problem.
TheGrumpyFisherman awesome! getting one for myself then.
Do 2 12v battery's in the back and wire them parallel
This video is my old boat. I did just that with a selector switch in my current one! Thanks for watchin!

I smoke, I swear, and I barely know what I am talking about. Sorry thats what you're stuck with lol
