I'd love to see some blooms Anna.....but you know what orchids are like....everything looks good but you never know what will happen.....take care and thank you, Ed.
Hello Ed. Your plants are beautiful and healthy, with many spikes. The blooms will be gorgeous. I'm sure you'll have a video clip of them. I can't wait. Thank you for sharing, and have a lovely week. Catherine
I'm trying my very best to get these spikes to bloom....i'm doing everything I've said in the video so fingers crossed that I am right with those tips. Take care Catherine and thank you for your comment, Ed.
Thanks Mick. The same plant put out 17 spikes lasy year and not one of them opened. Hopegullythe extra light I am giving it will do the trick......thanks for taking a look pal and take care, Ed.
Many thanks for viewing this video Justin. I've only managed to bloom Draculas once....but I hope all the tips I have put in this video will change that......take care and thank you for your comment, Ed.
I will try them again but it's heart breaking seeing them go downhill. I'm trying to figure out how to create a cool environment in my house (also for Masdevalias and Disa's)
I suggest you get a warm growing one Ynse......they do exist and will stand the temp into the 20s in winter and the 30s in summer. Try Dracula lotax. Ed.
@@EdsOrchids I tried the Lotax once but that was a while ago. I will call a Dracula grower tomorrow (just found his website) he grows over 120 species and hybrids, I think he can send me some warm growers
I also wish we could get spongerock. It's strange that it's not sold here. I do have to wonder how much benefit the fan provides. A fan like that on full speed will use 60 watts. Even on the lowest speed they don't use much less. I know they are beneficial but the Mars hydro I'm guessing is using about 60 watts too and the benefit of light is huge. I grow a lot of mine in grow boxes. I have computer fans running in some. Others have no ventilation at all. Just small ventilation slits like on terrariums. Honestly the fans make no difference. They do help maintain an even temperature and in sme boxes I need fans to prevent them overheating. Generally in horticulture you want fans for plants that grow very fast and transpire lots and are bunched closely together. In hoiculture you want to bunch them closely together but you then need to provide more airflow between the leaves. With a small orchid collection we don't want to have them too close together to prevent insects spreading too much. Here I just keep an eye on the overall humidity in a room. I really think the fan is not needed but I don't want to give any advice that might be detrimental. They do need to be kept moister than the orchids I grow and you grow them in moss which needs more regular drying out. They are just energy guzzlers these days. Back in the day not really but these days like mentioned they use as much as a 100w mars hydro led on 60% power. You could buy 5 more draculas a year instead of running the fan if you ask me.
Good evening Tom. The fans also stop bacterial and fungus spores from settling on the plants as well as helping them to dry more quickly and supplying enough oxygen to the roots. I am not a horticultural plant grower so I couldn't comment on your thoughts about these kind of plants. I'd rather look after the plants I have the way I think they should be looked after and the buying of more orchid plants has ended for me. Thanks for the comment Tom which I did enjoy reading....take care, Ed.
very excited to see the dracula's bloom!!! peace and love
