    You have the perfect temperament Mark, for taking on hull number 1. It must be your pilot training. You treat every new problem as an opportunity to learn from it. And you exude a can do attitude, with a great sense of humour. Wishing you well on your voyage. And sorry to hear about the passing of your father. Best to you and your family.

    Re:Fueling, do you have a 25 liter container like a Jerry can where you get the truck to pump in 25 liters and a scale to weigh the contents. This will verify the accuracy of the truck fuel pump and the density of the fuel, if they have a water content in their fuel, the weight will tell you about contamination as well.

    • @AwanuiNZ
      @AwanuiNZ  9 місяців тому +4

      They had a container and it was calibrated with a physical scale…no way to verify of course. Problem at the time was it took 8-10 fills of the container to agree with the pump metre. Go figure that out. Anyway problem has theoretically been found….sight Guages were out so new ones on their way currently. As we said in video at least the issue was on the safe side….looks like we have got 300 litres more on board than the guages indicate.

    Yes, It is the video We have been waiting for.... Your videos are food for the soul of all us "Screen-sailors". for myself, I've gone from glaring at all the superyacht videos, to discovering trawler yachts, in the 100-145 feet range, finally realising that what you are doing is exactly the right thing...... and must admit that the N51 do look very good, and has good proportions. I am looking so much forward to follow you onwards - as the previous videos have been very good, sometimes funny, and almost educational in getting to know "how to". Best of luck with getting her to NZ, looking forward to your next video. Safe passages to you and your family.

    HI Mark, very sorry to hear about your Father passing, my most heartfelt sympathy to you and your family. Mark, I too, lost my stabilizers on the first 100hrs. of operation. It occurred at 3am in the morning while experiencing 8ft. following seas. The port actuator failed and dumped ALL our hydraulic fluid in to the bilge, I did manage to pin the actuators in a fore and aft position, not an easy job to do while in a HOT engine room (45 Celsius) and your vessel is pitching/rolling excessively! It took 3hrs. of constant hand steering (tacking) to finally reach the nearest harbor entrance and much needed relief from all the pitch/rolling. Mark, your doing a wonderful job with that steep learning curve, you will be a seasoned Nautical Captain before you know it. Give my best to Fiona and your daughter Rene (sp?).
    Fair winds and following seas,
    Robert

    • @AwanuiNZ
      @AwanuiNZ  9 місяців тому +1

      Thanks so much Robert. Strange thing is we lost boat sides which just does not make sense. To me that is either over pressure or a dud batch of cylinder seals. New ones fitted just waiting to test then away again.

    • @RobertHealy-u8e
      @RobertHealy-u8e 9 місяців тому +1

      @@AwanuiNZ Mark, good luck with the batch of new cylinder seals. It maybe just one bad seal, what are the chances both seals are bad? One bad seal can drain the entire system of hydraulic fluid, a weak point in the ABT system. I would have onboard four end caps for the four hydraulic lines going in to the actuator, that way you could isolate the side with the bad seal, leaky fitting or loss of integrity of the cylinder/actuator causing all your fluid to dump in to your bilge. Once you secure the end caps on the failed side, service the system with 19 liters of hydraulic fluid through the reservoir, restart the working stabilizer and enjoy the best part, you will have 80 percent of your stabilization back working for you.

    My condolences on the loss of your dad. Congratulations on becoming owners and completing the maiden voyage. It looked like a great trip- aside from the hydraulic fluid leak! My first thought was maybe there was an air pocket from filling it up the first time, but obviously that was not the case since you found it in the bilges. 2 things I wanna wish you a very happy Easter and a great weekend and it must be really nice to finally be able to get your own yacht second thing is I would recommend you install a flair system A.k.a. Forward-looking infrared radar and that will help you at night see what's out there and it would be a big help for you also put a center in the engine room that is a temperature probe so you can actually test the air in the engine roomBut other than those 2 items you got a really comprehensive yacht and I would have chosen third screen too but that will run you about 2004 the hollers and I'm talking about US Dollars

    Sorry for your loss and still making a very long passage. We are in the same area at the moment, in Kos, but was wondering why you decided to check out in Istanbul ? Wouldn't it have been more practical to e.g. check out in Yalikavak or even in Datcha ?
    When did you film this video ? Thought I heard you say March, so that was then quite recently.
    I can give you a tip for Starlink, it also works in Turkey as long as you don't go too far land inward. We used it last year in Didim, Torba, Yalikavak, Bodrum, even Datcha without a problem. So chances are you will be able to use it along the Turkish coast as well.
    As for anchorages, you will find some very beautiful spots to anchor. If you come back into Greece make sure to stop in Symi, one of our favorite islands. St Giorgios bay is beautiful and if you come prior to the season you can have the bay to yourself.
    South or Rhodes there are quite a few anchorages, but in this time of the year the ports are mostly free. Kos, Kalymos, Symi, Nsiros etc, don't need to pay anything and most of the time electricity is for free. Currently we have our boat in Kos Mandraki, we pay 5 euro per day during the winter and it is very well protected. If you need a contact I can pass you the phone numbers.
    In the season the marinas can be a bit more expensive, indeed around 100 euro a night, although we paid 70 euro per night in Rhodes marina, so was not that bad. The ports will still be around 30 or 40 euro, also in the high season (at least last season) Just be aware that you don't want to be in a lively city center, the discotheques will go on until 6 in the morning and you won't sleep 😀
    Turkey on the other hand is a different story. You definitely don't want to be in a marina, you will be paying up to 300 euro a night and then you still have a bad spot. It is one of the reasons why the anchorages are so full, people tend to stay away from the marinas.
    Safe travels.
    Beautiful boat by the way.

      @AwanuiNZ  9 місяців тому +1

      Hey thank you so much for such valuable information. Are you currently in Kos? We are heading to Bodrum tomorrow for water maker installation then coming to Kos to check into Greece. We would love to meet you and catch up. We are going to try and do our entry into Greece ourselves. Not sure what happened in Rhodes but we got charged €123 by agent for cruising log which he said was only valid for a calender month which ended end of March so in theory when we come in on Friday or Saturday up for it again as April. Most Google searches and Greece Pilot Book say €30 for 18 months so a tad confused. We may have no option but to use an agent but last time for one night stay the charge all up was €230 +. You cannot help but feel one gets a little ripped off in this part of the world!

    Seem a funny gradulation on the stand tubes ie 1025 and 1122 ??

      I think it was to keep the graduations even and take into account the shape of the tanks. Definately in litres. In the end it was the sight gauges that were wrong. Joys of boat No.1

    Eek! 5000bucks for a tank of diesel! I bought a Hartley Southseas Ketch, and a 50ft Wharram Oro, and tenders for a total of five grand!
    Wow! Have you considered buying used cooking oil? I've run lots of boat and road diesels on that for years. It works real good as long as it's not below freezing. Though 5 to 10% normal diesel or methanol is helpful for cold starting.

      @@AwanuiNZ yeah. They would be.
      Of course you could sell the designed to bankrupt you John Deere motors and put some Isuzu Ute turbo diesels in instead. Get rid of the Seawater cooling systems. Run a ducted fan fed air cooling system with normal radiators, or have the engine water feed through an external pipe to cool it.
      Just use the standard manual or automatic transmission they come with.
      That would improve your economy massively, put a whole lot of cash in the bank from selling the John Deere pig motors, make repair and service easy anywhere you go....
      Check out what the Thai's do with Isuzu Turbo Diesels, in their longtail race boats.
      If you were there, you'd probably pay less than $3g to have them install a couple.
      Warranties are all very well while the manufacturer wants to look good and keep a supply contract with the boat company. But you have engines that will require regular software updates, and as you have found out are chock full of sensors designed to malfunction, and require thousand dollar an hour John Deere company workers with proprietary electronic diagnostics to figure out what's wrong.
      It's a huge problem they are being sued for in their tractors etc in the US.
      KISS: keep it simple stupid.

    Dear Mark and Fiona. I am really pleased you got away on your maiden voyage. You have a beautiful boat with great systems and I am looking forward to your world cruise.
    It is humbling Mark that as an airline captain, you have acknowledged you don't have a clue about marine matters and systems which is refreshing and it will take you Mark many months to fully understand and use your systems. I am a fully qualified Marine Captain in Auckland NZ so I can give you some real advice. It was disappointing that the Nordhaven used such a useless exhaust temperature recording gauge. Those strap on sensors are totally useless.
    You should have a pyrometer inserted into the exhaust BEFORE the water injection part of the exhaust. That is how commercial vessels gauge temperatures. NOT an Apple style wrist sensor which will and did melt and will continue to fail. You want to know the real exhaust temperature just like you did when flying your jet. Think of it the same way Mark. Exhaust temperature is what is so important. The engine temperature is a different thing. That records the water temp of the engine BUT the exhaust temp is the most important BECAUSE that is recording the REAL engine temp as it exits the engine.
    If you want or need further info please ask

    • @AwanuiNZ
      @AwanuiNZ  9 місяців тому +2
