Can we record the podcast outside anchor, edit with audacity and then upload the final output in anchor and distribute to all the platforms??? will it then distribute with our email id?
Funny I actually saw this video before the last one I commented on when I was researching whether or not to use anchor. I think I'm still on the fence, mainly bc I like free, and I plan on doing all the recording / editing off of anchor, and just using it for hosting / distribution. Still having a hard time determining if a paid host is really worth the $$. This was an excellent analysis btw, one of the best I've seen on the subject👌

Great information! I purchased a microphone for under $30 and used an apple cord that comes with any iPhone, or purchase in a store, and used it with my android and it works.
Adding external mics is pretty simple and easy. I just use a shotgun mic. Sometimes I'll use my irig to attach my xlr mic and I don't have any issues. My personal only cons to this is that you can't host multiple podcast episodes, in app "editing" features are pretty weak. Out side of that I love it (and yes the ownership is definitely a big deal). Definitely geared toward beginners

I'm using Anchor for hosting and distribution.. new to podcasting but curious why anchor distributes to most platforms FOR you while pod bead and others has you self submitting your RSS feed.. is there a benefit to self submitting on pod bean or am I missing something? Seems easier to use Anchor. As I'm hear you I'm hearing that on anchor you dont own it and cant see analytics.. So if I wanted to change hosts, would I resubmit my current episodes? Thanks!!
Last Q: no, you shouldn’t have to resubmit episodes. When you switch hosts, 99% of them will simply as for your PREVIOUS RSS feed url, and it’ll pull in all your episodes (I did this 6 months ago and put out a YT video about it). As far as submitting to directories, when you do it manually, you enter YOUR information (email, website URL, etc). When anchor does it, you don’t get to do that (and have less control over things). Note: if I remember correctly, there’s a way to manually submit your rss url on anchor.

Okay, awesome! I hear that it is possible to do all of this from start to finish right from my cellphone. However, my question is this... Can I do all of this from my laptop?! The cell phone is too small for me. I like to see what I'm doing. What are the limitations if I only use a desktop? Also, I didn't quite understand what you were saying about the video. So anchor removed my podcast without any prior warning for music distribution violation even though I only used like background intro theme anchor has on a 30 second trailer . Can I change host ?

Hey Pate thanks a lot for this video! Regarding the lack of editing tools on Anchor, can I deal with that by processing my audio on my DAW then upload the WAV/MP3 file to Anchor?
Another problem with anchor is that if you can't login to the password or get that password wrong it would create a whole new profile instead of trying to help you change the password
Thank you for all the information as I was thinking of using Anchor to start doing podcast! I always do my research as I do not know much about podcasts and I know Anchor is not to be used! I think alarm bells ring when you do not own the work you publish and fact that when put your work out there Anchor’s quality is just not up to standard unfortunately. Last why use easy when you can use better and own your work to!
You should review the updated version! I launched my podcast anchor.fm/selflovewithshar with Anchor and its available on a lot of platforms now. And they allow you to implement background music as well as full songs via Spotify.
I appreciate the review but I think if it’s free but more difficult to do things that other hosts can’t even do is a fair trade off. I think a better and fair comparison is comparing the things Anchor does in comparison with the things others do. So regular recording outside the app and uploading. Just my opinion.
Josh Bauer Thinking about it now, I agree. In my opinion this could have been 2 videos one using it just to upload, distribute and monetizing and one with the recording on the phone, editing and adding effect, etc.
@@RenaldoQuestelles Yes I agree there. I only ever used the online version; never even downloaded the app! A lot of the downsides seem to be with the extra features, like built in recording (that I never even had to use)

@@RandyReviews1990 Nobody wants to listen to crappy audio from your phone. If you want to have a successful podcast, then you should invest in your podcast. Having said that, it’s not a bad idea to use a phone to practice, and see if podcasting is for you before investing. Lots of people discover that it’s actually hard work and stop after a couple episodes.
You mean... You can't just record and edit your podcast in some other softest and just send the fully finished audio to anchor? Why would you need to record on their platform? That seems weird.
You can totally do that! (I see no reason why you would, as the whole Anchor thing is geared towards mobile device podcasting). But you can record/edit elsewhere and upload to Anchor.fm via the browser version.

I guess it's fine if you're just podcasting off the cuff from your mobile device. But if you're doing a podcast with some production value, it would make more sense to use a service that allowed you to upload a fully produced, edited and processed (final) version. (One that I record in Audition or ProTools and produce, and master there, and move TO a distribution network) What I'm more interested is a delivery (distribution) network that will give me access to an ad network (for revenue) for several shows, but allow me full control and ownership of the finished product. (I'm starting a small podcast network, and working on launching with 4 shows). I was confused by the tone and message in your video. You seem like you're recommending Anchor, but when you talk about the limitations, you make it sound like these are deal breakers.
Good show I learned a lot. 👍🏾 The only reason I gave you a thumbs down, and this is the first time I have ever done that btw 🤦🏾♀️, is because some of the things you mentioned as "clunky" etc to be because you didn't do the research deep enough to learn how to use the app properly. But where else can you get fully licensed music if you want to include music in your podcast? I thought that was a main benefit of Anchor.
Saramonic has a mic amp for pro mics for smart phones. It takes a battery and is portable, so it’s not for everyone but it works.

I have a anchor podcast. I don’t understand if it show us when people downloaded an episode or if it just shows us when people listen. Do you know?!?
It definitely shows your "downloads," which mainly means "listens." I'm honestly not sure if they break out ACTUAL downloads vs streams.
