You can brown the meat and sautee the onions for carmelization and unlocking more flavor/aromatization other than that you can add raw meat to a slow cooker is what it is for. I keep seeing comments like you can't add raw meat to a slow cooker which is crazy. You slow cook your food/meat for 4 - 8 hours that is what its there for.😂
Cooking from FROZEN is not safe for a slow cooker but yeah you're absolutely right that RAW meat should be just fine! Personally I cannot imagine not browning my meat for flavor at least lol
I personally need to drain the meat, that would be my issue. Keeping the grease in burger when cooking hamburger patties is good and keeps them juicy but when making pasta or any dish with scrambled burger that grease needs to be drained or you end up with oily greasy food.
No chef/ cook would take the time to make it " pretty" in a crock pot. Throw it all in together, so it will meld and flavor up! This is coming from a person who spent 30+ years in the food industry!

Right? I like the ingredients, but I just don’t think this is a crock pot recipe. The consistency was off. You also have to be careful with putting pasta in a crock pot. It overcooks, expands, and absorbs all the liquid if you don’t turn off the heat quickly. I’d season, brown, and crumble the ground beef ahead of time. Same with the pasta, and I wouldn’t add it to the crock pot, I’d serve it at serving time to prevent overcooking. Why not pour the mixture 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧 the separately cooked pasta? Which then defeats the purpose of using the crock pot altogether. 🤷🏽♀️
Yes!! The onions should be browned a little too. Leafy herbs like basil and parsley should be added in the end. Only 'harder' herbs, like thyme and rosemary could be added in the beginning. Also stir it a little before putting the heat on, so the ingredients can work together. Those compartments look good for the video, but aren't helping the flavor. She'll learn with time and practice. I could have sworn I saw a lot of raw pink in that beef when she first started stirring up the food... Never the less, I think the concept of what she did is a very good idea but only I just would've let it cooked a little while longer than just two hours, maybe something like 3 in a hafe hours... I mean it actually takes just 1 whole hour alone just for the crockpot to get going ... So if something takes 3 hours to cook then you're supposed to set your timer for four hours when dealing with a crockpot, and the first hour of the crockpot cooking doesn't count... You never supposed to count the first hour simply because the first hour of the crockpot is when it's just starting to heat up... So many people don't realize that and make that mistake time and time again, her casserole dish l believed only cooked for one hour instead of two hours because she set the time for two hours and not three... Folks remember when you're cooking in a slow cooker the first hour do not count, always put an initial one hour on the initial time that you set on your crockpot...
Interesting base recipe. I prefer to brown the ground beef ahead of time-probably after supper the night before-breaking apart as I go, then drain and store in the fridge till prepping the following day. It looks tasty! I would have used 2pounds of ground beef rather than one, considering how much cheese and sour cream is in there, plus sauce. I also would hv browned and at least partially drained the beef, depending on how high the fat content was. I will definitely try it.
I am grateful that shows cooking the beef in the crock pot. I love it! I think cooking it before is old school. I also use my crock pot a lot because it is easy for a working mom. Crock pot cooking is convenient, but there is a little skill to it. I really appreciate this recipe, especially since we are remolding our kitchen. Thank you very much. Also, I just made your enchillada chicken snd used the hand mixer to break up the meat, love it and super easy!!!!
You like eating all the grease? If you brown even lean ground beef and drain it there is still a bowl of grease. It's not old school, it's just healthy. This is the grossest thing I've ever seen.
I don't believe that this is an actual recipe that anybody cooks for a real family. That big blob of ground beef just plopped in the pot, that sour cream cooked to death for hours, those expensive processed ingredients (grated cheese, cream cheese, bottled sauce) purchased just to make a bunch of glop. This is just clickbait.
Cooking isn’t your thing, Honey. It’s okay, you’re young, you’ll learn, it’s just going to take some traveling to the East Coast is all, where there’s no such thing as “hot dishes” (a/k/a “casseroles” for the rest of us) since the 1970s. That dish of yours is the furthest thing from Italian cooking as you can possibly get, which means it’s for sure a Midwest thing. First, Italians don’t use crockpots…..pressure cookers, Yes but not crockpots. Second, ALL the ingredients can never be from a jar or package - fresh only! The fact you think Rao’s sauce is the best, is evidence enough that you’ve never had real Italian food. Again, all this is fixable. Come East and you’ll quickly see what I mean. Best of Luck - see you soon!!
I would use plant based already browned ground be’f. Since I discovered Gardein ground be’f in the freezer section 2 years ago I haven’t used ground beef. It is so good and easy.

“This looks so good”
Kinda looks like sick.
Sour cream can separate and become grainy. I usually just add it about last 30 minutes. Yours looks perfect though.😊👍
Best thing about this video is the Pug at the end, that recipe needs to be done differently for a crock pot, sorry mate
There are so many ingredients the recipe becomes expensive. For the price of all these ingredients, I could eat out.
This makes a lot of food.
@@anitas5817 Even if the recipe makes a lot of food, it's too costly.
It looks tasty! I would have used 2pounds of ground beef rather than one, considering how much cheese and sour cream is in there, plus sauce. I also would hv browned and at least partially drained the beef, depending on how high the fat content was. I will definitely try it.
Chicken instead of ground beef?
It’s like the meat is not done enough
It's been cooking for two hours on high so it's done, but she didn't brown it first so that's why it looks like that
I ain’t gonna hold you. That looks crazy as hell.
How’s the marinara homemade if it’s sold in a store
Did she add a sauce?
“Oh my goodness every time. “ gonna be so good!
She has such a cute petite body to be making and eating the meals, she prepares.
Ew. This is not the channel for that 😒
I respect how small and petite she is! I don’t see why you’re offended by my comment! Sorry, you don’t recognize a compliment!🤷🏽♂️
@@nancyprovence109Chill!
No!!
Try an instant pot, half the time, also has a slow cook setting, yay❤😊
That's a great idea!
@justineskitchen you can thank me later❤️
Next try ricotta cheese
That would be a much better choice! 👍
Look who's lurking in the background waiting to taste test.😅😂
I don't believe that this is an actual recipe that anybody cooks for a real family. That big blob of ground beef just plopped in the pot, that sour cream cooked to death for hours, those expensive processed ingredients (grated cheese, cream cheese, bottled sauce) purchased just to make a bunch of glop. This is just clickbait.
Use lean ground beef because you don't want to much fat in there 😉 my god I put on 20kg just watching 👍
Did you share some with the dog?
looks great. Will certainly try.
Mm my mouth is watering now👍🏻🍝
I see a cute little pug in the background. I love pugs. I am 70 and I'm on number 15 pug. His name is Willoughby. BTW, I love your crockpot meals.
Judging by these comments you're about the only one. Are you just starving to death or something and so everything is good?
I agree i would have cooked that ground beef first
OMG, are you making a chip dip?
Looks good!!! ❤
Awesome! Love to dump in all and cook- Easy- Hot and Comfort food.
Yeah it's... something
I would use plant based already browned ground be’f. Since I discovered Gardein ground be’f in the freezer section 2 years ago I haven’t used ground beef. It is so good and easy.
That is not beef.
Great recipes Justine 👌
Okay I HAVE to try this! This looks Delicious. I haven't heard about it either but I know I need to make this. Thank you for this perfect and Delicious share friend 🥰💞👍🏻
The hungry pug in the background! 😂❤😂❤
That beef wasn’t cooked 😂
I like ur lil pug in the background 😊
Curdled sour cream and raw beef mmmmm
Ever cook a roast?
@@kathyromeo8547 absolutely, even crock pot stroganoff. Sear the meat then slow cook, but add the sour cream at the end so it doesn't curdle. Just depends on the ingredients and meat.
But raw beef which has been handled multiple times and then ground added with all the other stuff and grease? No thank you. Cook it up a little bit drain it, add the ingredients and toss on sour cream at the end. And you're good to go.
"I love parsley"
...I've honestly never had a dish and thought to myself, you know what this could use? More parsley 😂
Jokes aside, nice recipe, will have to try it
Yeah rite
Looks delicious ❤
