I grew up in Tecumseh. If you go to the west of town you will houses with a look out tower on top of them, well down in the basements there were tunnels that went from house to house their is a whole tunnel system that no one can see. They would move people from home to home to dodge the african americans to protect them. I dont know how far the tunnels go, most of the new home owners blocked it off. Tecumseh was named after an inidan chief so was Clinton MI. They rode down to my Town i live in today in ohio and had a war over the river 1882 ish.
That's fascinating history; thanks for sharing it here! Do you know if any of these tunnels still exist? I'd love to investigate that. Tecumseh is a beautiful town! HMM
Most tunnels probably unsafe to travel but they are there. They would walk horeses down the tunnels so they some what big they would haul supplies to downtown stores. In the basements , if you go to a local shop downtown you can see remanence of tunnel entry, that got sealed off over the yrs. There is miles of tunnels under your feet. @@HistoryMysteryMan
There is a factory named Tecumseh products on south side of town, Its closed nowdays he made refrigerator compressors. He retired from there in 1986. Idont know what all went down in the place I was little kid. I didnt understand at 8 yr. old. He told me he would only bring a check home for $75. He went in 1950's bought a farm for $19500 to raise his family of 3. Local told him he was crazy at the time Now its worth over 2 million minus the crude oil on the land. 180 acres now days.
If people like history in this town, there is a house its white it has 8 ft. tall doors to enter the home people were bigger back then its on the west end of town before you get near the restaurants its right on the curve. That place is awesome I dont know the address you cant miss it. its before the old A& W root beer stand. on the left has tunnels below also. I know this because Ive talked to alot of people when I was young. I dont get paid for my intel. enjoy Ill give you more later.
Another great story and history lesson, Don. The retired RN had a dream come to life. Now that is what small towns are all about for certain. Love that you support those folks. Our world needs more people keeping their dreams alive and being positive knowing they can make it happen. You are a rock star, HMM!!!
X-Lent video again.....Beautiful small town, the kind people are fleeing to from big cities. crime, riots, looting and destruction are the #1 cause. As a result home prices are exploding in the quaint, cute little towns.
You are absolutely correct. Home prices are going through the roof in small town America. It used to be that people wanted out. Having been out, now they want back in. Thanks for your support Bextar636. #YouRock
