Thank you both for your comments. For the record, Tecumseh did not stop making small engines, rather it sold the division five years ago to another company to focus on its core business - refrigeration and air conditioning. Tecumseh is also a publicly traded company owned by stockholders. In today's competitive global marketplace, having a singular focus was deemed by the board to be the best approach for our stockholders, customers and employees.
That's interesting how companies come to such decisions. There was nothing wrong with trying out a different area and changing your mind. It probably should have been mentioned in the documentary. Kohler, manufacturer of plumbing products makes small engines.
thats because the company bankrupted. Tecumseh DID seize engine production Dec 31, 2008. They sold to LCT, which is a joke really. Nothing in relation to the original company.
That decision result in one annoying issue. The engines that replaced yours are often foreign-made with metric fasteners. well the machines they go on are the same model that previously had to come sit engines and still head standard SAE fasteners on it. It's not a big deal but a mild inconvenience. And I know you have no control over what the manufacturers of small engine products make their products. Not a big deal ons lawnmowers but little annoying on snowblowers many non engine-related bolts are more frequently removed for servicing in they are on lawn mowers.
@@ajwindmeyer2272 100% incorrect. Tecumseh sold their engine division to Platinum Equity. Platinum Equity shut down the engine business and sold the assets to Certified Parts Corp (CPC). The engine division was NOT sold to LCT.
Have it in my 11 year old split ac, gotta admit its probably the best I have seen. Far more better than LG's, voltas and panasonic which are quite popular in India. Quite a proud feeling to have my ac's heart of tecumseh
AJ Windmeyer we miss Tecumseh Power always loved there small engines. But at least CPC is making parts for the engines. Maybe one day will see Tecumseh Products Co make small engines again.
@@nighthawkj30A4 in today's political climate it might be risky to bring back the name to the Tecumsah name. The company is named after to come to the Michigan which is named after Shawnee Chief Tecumsah.
I worked at TP for a couple years in what was known as the cleanroom utility and repair; also the TK room. Tecumseh was known as the refrigeration capital of the world but that is no longer true. Sad
Nobody in Tecumseh Michigan pronounces it "tea-cum-suh". We all say "Te-cum-see" I think Tecumseh Ontario is the same. It may not be correct from a Native American point of view but over 10,000 inhabitants say it so....
Exactly! I was about to write a comment on this, and see you already made the point. It's sad that the company fled their hometown and now don't even know how the name is pronounced.
@workensmart I agree with your comments re the state of the company as it exists today..its unfortunate but true..i've got a few Tecumseh engines (H50, 2x H70s, 3x HM80s, 2x HM100s and a OHSK70) so i'll just keep running them until i can no longer get spares or performance parts (extremely hard to locate these days) I'd rather be running a 10 year old TEC than a new chinese clone whatever.....just my opinion

Wonder if Tecumseh will start making small engines again I currently have 3 Tecumseh engines they run perfect I hate Briggs I've had terrible luck with Briggs and good luck with Tecumseh the protech oil system makes a Tecumseh outlast a Briggs 10 times over versus Briggs splash system which only lasts 1 season
its because briggs is no longer made with american parts they are trying to produce cheap engines like the Quantum engine that thing is a big piece of shit
I haven't had problems with Briggs lawnmower engines yet, but I love the Tecumseh on my used snowblower purchased last winter. Recently acquired a lawnmower with a working Tecumseh engine.
First off General Electric produced the first hermetically sealed compressor in 1927 for their "Monitor Top" refrigerator. Then Frigidaire produced the "Meter-Miser" rotary hermetic compressor in 1933. Thirdly, the first window mounted room air conditioner was made by Thorne Manufacturing Company of Chicago in 1932. I totally agree here! We buy Ariens lawn mower (used) with a Tecumseh engine 25 or 30 years ago and still running perfectly.
