  • In this video, I'll be comparing the PRS SE 245 Standard with the PRS SE 245 Vintage Burst. I'll be also comparing how these 2 guitars sound with different string gauges.

    Man I really enjoy your review videos. Very insightful and entertaining. I like how you don't have an agenda and your not trying to sell me a product you endorse. I recently bought my first PRS SE Custom 24. Always wanted a PRS and this was my step into that pool. Now I want a single cut. I love both of these models and agree the flamed maple top is coming home ASAP. I would really like to see you review the EVH Wolfgangs Special and Standard. Also the Schecter Tempest Custom. Thank you for your time and all the reviews.

    I bought a 2004 USA Stratocaster Deluxe. It had been re-fretted, Plek'd and professionally set up at the legendary Charlie Chandler's in London. It came with 8's. Initially I was sceptical but it sounds amazing and is so much nicer to play.
    Apparently back in 60's and 70's all the best players including Hendrix used 8's.
    8's have more clarity than 9's and 9's more clarity than 10's and so on. You can fatten up the tone with tone controls on the guitar and the amp.
    All my guitars originally set up with 10's I'm swapping over to 9.5 and my 9 guage down to 8.5. I'm not regretting dropping 0.5 at all. I love the feel of lighter gauge strings.

    Nice guitars! Love demos like this that let you contrast and compare. I think the .10s sound just a bit warmer. This could be due to less high end vibration. I've been using .09s for so long, but I may give .10s a whirl and see if my fingers get along with them lol. Great playing as always Jon!

    Both aesthetically and tonally beautiful guitars, was a hard choice for me, but I went with the standard version. Vintage style is great, but just a little too bright tone-wise for me. Standard has just the right amount of brightness. Personally I also prefer to play with .010s. Thanks for the review, Jon!

    I still think it is a hard argument to make because wood density and even the pickups can have slight variations so the real test to me would be swap strings on each and compare all 4 sounds (9s on both and 10s on both). Either way great playing as always!

    Hi Jon, beautiful guitars, I had a laugh in the close view of the standard as the music together with the curves let me think if some movies for adults, haha. Besides, I had a guitar teacher who used a standard in his lessons, saying it was one of the best deal as guitar, he also ran a small music shop. Tonewise, it's weird that the mahogany standard with 9s had a scooped balance while the maple cap vintage with 10s was more focussed on mids: I expected the other way around. On conclusion I prefer the standard finish and the vintage tones: is there a maple caped in tobacco burst ? Anyway, I'm enjoying my Michael Kelly 55 with quilt maple tobacco burst, haha.

  • @robertclinger7351
    @robertclinger7351 2 роки тому +1

    One, you should have used the same brand strings, like the D'Addario 110's vs. 120's(..9s). Two, if the bridge is tight to the body, with the 10's, it will be sharper tone. If you overwrap the strings on the bridge, with 9s, or just raise the bridge a lot, the sound will be mellower. Raising or lowering the bridge will therefore change the tension, if you do a lot of bending.
    I like your videos.

  • @chrisl2285
    @chrisl2285 Рік тому +1

    It took me three misses to get to my 245 Standard but that thing was love at first feel!! It's hard to imagine a better guitar (for me) than the 245. Maybe an S2 594! LOL
    I also much prefer 10's over the 9's that came on the guitar. I'm not sure about tone, but the 9's with the short scale length were just to slinky for me, even as a beginner. Like he said, that little bit of resistance from the thicker 10's keeps me in check. I have some 11's on the way, just as an experiment to see how those feel.

    Hi Jonathan, Like you I prefer the Vintage but my old arthritic hands can’t handle 10’s.. Question - In the PRS SE line, are there any models that can reproduce the sound of an SG Standard? I’m also considering a Relish Trinity but am clueless as to what pair of pickups would best mimic a SG Standard… I thought perhaps some genuine Gibson’s like a pair of 490’s or perhaps Burstbuckers. I’ve also thought perhaps a set of Bare Knuckle Mules… I realize I could just buy an SG but the one I bought arrived with the neck totally broken off at the heel - hence I’m distrustful of any SG neck. I’d appreciate your thoughts.

    • @JonIsJustTooLoud
      @JonIsJustTooLoud  2 роки тому

      In my experience.. nothing sounds like an SG other than a SG. I was in the hunt for one years back.. but decided to abandon the quest as I can’t justify the cost for a really good original SG. The PRS has the S2 McCarty thin line which I think will probably come pretty close. I’m reviewing the guitar soon.. you can make your decision then✌️❤️
