I finally got mine and I’m blown away with the quality, sound, and playability straight out of the box! Can’t believe this guitar wasn’t double the price!
It's crazy how much the se line has improved. I've played so many different versions of them. I still liked the 3 pickup Zach Myers guitar but these are really impressive. Same with the tremonti signature. They keep getting better and better
To be honest, I've got an SE254 (the more expensive version of the SE, not the cheaper one, if that matters...think around the £800 mark or something) with the (I think it's called) charcoal burst flamed maple top and I bought it used in maybe 2017 at the latest and even that is pretty fucking nice. Made by World Music Instruments in Korea who make a lot of other mid-higher end 'import' guitars like the LTD Deluxe (I've got an LTD MH400 from before they split that into an Indonesian MH350 and the MH1000 coated in abalone all over as I thought the abalone looked too 'tacky' and cheap so this was basically the same thing without it and it's also a fucking beast), they make Chapmans now, bunch of other things, too. I've never tried one of the cheaper SEs, but I can't imagine they've ever been that bad really and probably in fact are pretty great anyway It always amazes me how fucking amazing 'cheap' and lower priced guitars are now. Even the new Ibanez GIO guitars look great. You can pick up a new guitar for like £2-300, maybe upgrade the pickups to something more of your taste if you want, and you've got a fantastic guitar. Even just like...15year ago and maybe sooner, that just wasn't the case. Back in the day if you spent that much on a guitar you had to pretty much accept that it was gonna be fucking awful haha :D
I agree. I have one from 2016 that I got for almost nothing as they blew them out at GC. Worst guitar I own. I tried selling it and even in mint shape, the best offer I got was $200 on it.
@@rebelcat420 man I think that the first se guitar I played was in 08. Those things are like toy guitars compared to what they're putting out now. It's really amazing to me
I’ve played a few Core models and recently got the SE 277. It’s on par with core quality. Incredible value. Just surprised there isn’t a core baritone model.
@@jaydenfriesen ya from what I can tell Paul used to be hesitant to change much of the core line for a while. It was a pretty big deal when they did a single cut model back in the day. Obviously that's changed now. I wouldn't be surprised to see a baritone core model now. If there's a big enough market they'd definitely do one
Thank you for the tip on the replacement tuners. Had thought about getting one of these and tuners were going to be the first thing to get swapped. Insightful as always.
I saw a review of this guitar on wednesday night, thursday morning went to the guitar store in my town and tried it. Walked out of the store with it and added it to my collection.
I have had my Trampas Green Zach Meyers for a week and absolutely love it! I have changed the strings to D'Addario's 10 - 46, it had 8's on it, I love the way the D'Addario's sound! I love the thicker satin neck and I find it easier to play. Thank you Phil for a wonderful video!
Hello. Great guitar, great review. I bought the same one a year ago. Beautiful, light enough. My copy has a slightly darker tone. The bottom one is lighter. Three parts from which the body is glued are clearly distinguishable. The colorless lacquer honestly shows the structure of the wood. Griffin is perfect. PRS has full control over the quality standards. The setup is good right out of the box. The guitar lies comfortably in the hands. It will especially please people who are not very tall and with not the longest fingers. The sound is excellent. The sound, similar to acoustics, is easily adjusted. Sounds confident on a clean sound, crunch and overdrive. The PRS SE 245 "S" humbuckers do the job with confidence. But the empty cavity adds volume and overtones. Therefore, it will not be very easy to set up a sound for performing, for example, covers of famous artists. Thanks to the absence of cut-offs - even more so. Chances are if you're looking for one instrument for different styles of music, you'll have to do more than just change the tuners and set cutoffs. As recommended by the reviewer. If you want a versatile sounding instrument, you may need to invest in another set of pickups, such as the Seymour Duncan SH-JB Hot Rodded Humbucker. Total 200-250$ add to the price. If you have a super strat in your collection, or a strat and LP, then the PRS SE Zach Myers will be a great addition to the collection. Good luck.
I played one of these in a local music store today and YES, it does look as beautiful as this. I absolutely fell in love with the instrument. Fast neck, great feel.
I totally agree. My 2016 trampas green SE ZM was my third electric and was love at first sight. And helped ease me into the addictive world of electrics.
Phillip, excellent review of the ZM PRS. I fell in love with the guitar after this video and after watching many others (you're review was #1) I purchased one. After an inspection (perfect in every way-thanks for the lessons) and tuning, I put it away until Father's Day, lol. I can't wait to receive it from my kids, might even sleep with it. Your channel rocks, thanks for all the hard work.
I got a deal on a Vintage Sunburst 2019 Zach Myers SE in 2019 from Sweetwater. Great guitar for some reason at the time the Trampas Green was the finish everyone wanted and Sweetwater discounted the Vintage Sunburst. Anyway got a great deal and now it is my current favorite.
So I just got the new 2021 today. I gotta say if you’re on the fence, just do it. This is a great guitar. Not even “for the money”. Phillip’s description is spot on.
Got mine today! Wedge box, beautiful top (pictures and video doesn’t do it justice), nice back and a wonderful sound. Seems like a really nice guitar for the price.
Thanks for this, like many others I’m torn if I really “need” another guitar in the stable. But I tried it out yesterday and wow it’s a freaking NICE guitar. I can see one of these coming for a permanent visit real soon! LOL!!!
I have had this guitar for a couple of months. It has become my favorite. My Les Paul and others are getting dusty. I just can’t put it down . The fret ends are PERFECT. The pickups are articulate. It stays in tune. And the price? Amazing.
Great review Phil. You really seem to enjoy this PRS and I appreciate your in depth report on the set up, construction, and suggested improvements. I really like the blue way better than the Trampas Green. Might be one in my future. Thanks
I ordered mine the day after I saw the PRS new release video. Thanks so much for this review and I’ll address your questions when mine comes in. Again, thanks!
I just got an SE 35th Anniversary in the blue. The maple top is amazing looking. It plays like a dream right out of the box. I love the neck pickup and it has a great sound coil split as well. PRS definitely surprised me.
I love You, man! Your reviews are so informative!! I absolutely adore Your info on frets and nut heights! ... And well done on the sound sampes, too. Thumbs up for no delay!
Awesome review Phil, thank you for this detailed review and your passion sharing all the details. I got two PRS SE Zach Myers (one Korean made and this model from Indonesia) both are great guitars. Two thumbs up and greetings from Germany!
Like a lot of people, I have several guitars, including a Gibson LP studio, an American strat, a PRS custom 24 SE, and this one is definitely my go to guitar. Love it.
Excellent as always Phil. Really digging that new color. The hanging feature of the gig bag is a really great feature for flying if you're lucky enough to get on a plane that 1. doesn't make you check it and 2. still has a garment bag storage closet.
Also, this was my first PRS guitar, and I have to say. Other than the disappointing input jack and toggle switch, both of which I've had to replace(guitar's at my local shop getting the 3way replaced). The guitar's quality is absolutely stunning! Put Gotoh locking tuners on it as well. Will be buying more PRS SE in the future, will be auto-changing tuners, jack and switch when I do tho.
hello sir Phillip. i was the one in your last live stream that asked about the PRS SE 245 this is the one i have PRS SE 245 Standard Electric Guitar Tobacco Sunburst thank you!
Great review, I've been seriously considering this guitar but the main thing holding me back was the lack of coil splitting. To know its an easy mod is very useful. Thanks!
Hey Phillip! Back in December I bought an SE245 Standard. I loved it so much that 4 weeks later I bought a Trampas green Zach Myers model. Both of these guitars are my absolulte favorite. I've owned many Strats, Tele's and Les Pauls and have always liked PRS. I always thought I'd get one someday, but never really looked at them as far as a had to have one right now. Someday... well, that someday is here and I purchased an SE model, which is such a great guitar that I'm only focused on PRS at this time. For an SE... meaning low dollar, these guitars are a lot of bang for the buck. I think the build quality far exceeds the price. This was a great review and you nailed it. The only thing I'm going to do is look into having push/pull pots installed and splitting the coils, which you talked about. I had already thought that same thing when I bought the ZM, but wasn't sure the 245S pickups were able to be split. Great review! Thank you!
Phil your striking is striking you getting it! (right hand) other note I really like how you are putting in even more setup and change the guitar ideas as options.
Nice review Phil! Truthfully, I almost skipped this video, because they’ll never make that in a lefty and I didn’t know who the artist was. BUT, this was a nice, very thorough review. You covered all the bases and threw in some tech tips to boot. It’s a beautiful guitar and it sounds great! You better change those pots and keep that rascal. It would look awful good on the wall. It’s always nice to hear the clean tones in a review. If it don’t sound pretty, what’s the point. Those SE’s are pretty nice playing guitars, well worth the money. And, like you said, with a few tweaks for personal preference, they’re keepers.
Dang it! I was so hoping(not) it was awful. Have to get one now. I love my 2016 PRS SE ZM trampas green with satin neck. But the color, binding, matching headstock on this one ticks all the boxes. Thanks for the locking tuner and other mod recommendations.
Hi @Phillip McKnight, Thank you for the video! I just picked up a MINT 2021 that a guy purchased and played 5-10 times. I am noticing some tuning issues (staying in tune especially after transport) and checked your links for the Gotoh Tuners and didnt see it with the part number you cited in the video. I also have done some reasearch and some people say the nut could need some fettling. Please let me know where I can find that link and part number for the drop in tuners! Thanks again! Chris
OMG, Phil that fret with the tang removed acting as a zero fret to measure nut action is brilliant! Thank you for sharing all this great info, and creating such awesome content.
Great video Phil I really enjoyed it. Very informative , you explained everything regarding this guitar extremely well. Your playing is awesome also. I wish I could play half as good as you do. This video makes what to go out and purchase it. It’s a beautiful guitar no doubt. Thank you very much for this video 🎸🙏
Pre-ordered one last week as my first PRS. I have single coil guitars so I didn't feel the need for the coil tapping on the 24 SE. I really respect your take on gear, and this feels like some great validation. Keep up the great work!
I have the previous Zac Meyers signature model, but I'm absolutely in love with this one and the lime green SE custom 24-08 you did yesterday. My plan this year was to buy a new Gretsch, and I think I'm gonna have to stick to my original plan and buy 3 guitars now
I have two of these (a 2017 and a 2019 limited edition) and they are both fantastic. I've made modifications to both (pickups, locking tuners, etc), but the guitar itself is the most comfortable I've ever played, and (as Phil mentioned) fit & finish is second to none. While I'm not a huge fan of the new color or the headstock veneer (I prefer the natural/mismatched headstock), those are really matters of personal taste/preference. That said, I can't recommend this guitar enough. It is my favorite guitar I've ever played, and not just "in this price range".
Great review Phil and adding my 2 cents seeing as you asked for it. I've got a number of great guitars, US mmade Tele, 60th anniversary Strat, Sire T7FM, PRS Mira, all of which I love, but the Zach, this version, has kind of taken over my #1 choice to play. It's so playable, the neck, frets, fretboard and action. It's also such an incnredibly comfortable guitar in the way it sits, it's light, has beautiful body sculpting. But I also think its sound, with no mods, is just killer no matter what pickup combinatio you are using. It's kind of intangible, but to me, it's got a purity of sound that words can't really suffice in describing. Your suggestion regarding the push pull has mme thinking of adding that too. All in all, I doubt if there are many guitars at this price point that can match the Zach, and I was recording at a friend's place and he was so taken with the guitar's sound he has gone on the hunt looking for one.
I just bought the JM se and it came in tuned and perfect set up even pickups height scary good !!! That’s why seeing this going to buy another PRS, for me more than perfection is the scale length 24.5 ufff perfect!
I had a Santana SE for a while, and it was definitely lower tension, but with 10s I had to bend the strings just far enough that I couldn't get a 1/2 step on the B or a full step on the G bending down, so I had to bend up instead. It was enough of an annoyance that I ended up selling it.
Just got mine a week ago. Yes, it also came in the wedge box. The fit and finish, awesome. Completely agree. It has great intonation and stays in tune. Yes, the tuners aren't the best but not much worse than my Gibson Blueshawk - they'll do since it stays amazingly in tune. I do agree the coil splitter would be a nice addition but, being a Les Paul guy anyway I'm happy with it as is. I have a Tele for the single coil stuff. Bottom line, I have two LPs that I love but this might be my new favorite guitar. It is really versatile. Great review btw. And the blue finish...whoa. It is my most beautiful guitar. I love the light brown mahogany sides and back contrasting against the blue - just gorgeous.
Hey Phil, thanks for another great video. I think the guitar looks nice. The clean sounds were good. The heavy overdrive sounded good with the bridge pickup, but the best sound was when you used the neck pickup with heavy distortion with the volume dialed back 90%. That was sweet!
Hey Phil i got a blonde satin version of this guitar it is a quilt pattern instead if the pattern on the blues one it is so amazing and i will upgrade the tuners and looking at doing the coils splits.
I bought 2 PRS SE’s this past year or so. The Custom 24 and the P90E parlor. I know it’s not the models featured here. But if you’re thinking of PRS guitars. I took both of mine out of the box and just tuned them aliittle and ready to play. Not a single issue on these🎸
Here after watching Mary Spender’s review of this. Never heard of Zack Meyers and only peripherally aware of Shinedown, but that is an amazingly beautiful instrument. I’d be proud to own one.
Im not even s ZM fan, but i love his work with PRS. You can tell he clearly cares for the customer generally speaking as much as he cares for the fans, cuz as i said im not even a fan but i would buy any of his signatures. This guitar with a P90 on the neck is pretty much my dream guitar
I just bought the new Zach Myers SE 594. The top on the guitar is amazing, as is the fit and finish. Great bang for the buck. If your on the fence, buy it.
Omg…loved playing this guitar at GC that I ended buying it. I got home and the intonation was incredibly sharp on the 12th fret. I adjusted the saddles and they ended up all the way back up into the bridge. Even at this point, it was still a little sharp. I tried to adjust the bridge and then the strings started fretting. I got worried so I ended up taking it into our local guitar tech. I can’t wait to get it back.
Great video!! I bought mine a few weeks back and I did need some small adjustments on the bridge to make it feel better, the strings were a bit higher than 2mm and the intonation was a bit off, but it could be that it's because I'm in Canada, so maybe they don't have the same quality control here. But, it does sound fantastic!! I played a gig with it on that same night after the small adjustments and everyone complimented the sound and the looks. It shines!!!
Beautiful guitar. Recently I have been considering the Mcarty hollowbody in tobacco burst, but this one has challenged my opinion. It sounds fantastic stock, but the push push coil tap conversion would be pretty simple to do. I think you have swayed my opinion towards this semi hollow. Excellent review and tasty playing btw. This will be my first PRS.
I finally got mine and I’m blown away with the quality, sound, and playability straight out of the box! Can’t believe this guitar wasn’t double the price!
I hope your channel hits 500k this year, Phil. Your channel is one of my favorites!
Thank you
I agree! Great presentation without hype. Yet we can tell when you are excited about a product. Keep Rocking.
This video and your comment made me subscribe! I'm so much in the market for a semi hollow
I was waiting for it because with that ocean blue here, I am pulling the trigger fast!! Thank you!!

My plan this year was to buy a new Gretsch, and I think I'm gonna have to stick to my original plan and buy 3 guitars now
That's a guitar player speaking right there folks! haha.
Great pointer regarding the locking tuners. The riff after that pointer was pretty good too!
Yeah, the top on this one and the green one from your other video just POP in the video... amazing!
My 2019 PRS SE exotic spalted maple has matching spalted maple headstock veneer 👍
Same with my PRS SE exotic poplar burl
as a metalhead - thank you for doing a dirty example man! every time people say they're going to try a tone with gain they only add a tinkle lmao
Thanks for this detailed review!
I bought the 24 SE and it came in the same wedged box. I plan to get this guitar too. Case grew in me because of the hook. I'm in love with PRS!
Beautiful production work fender could learn
Phil!! Love the channel. Pumped everytime you post a vid
24.5 scale lengths are sweet. loosens up the string tension just a tad over a Les Paul...
I had a Santana SE for a while, and it was definitely lower tension, but with 10s I had to bend the strings just far enough that I couldn't get a 1/2 step on the B or a full step on the G bending down, so I had to bend up instead. It was enough of an annoyance that I ended up selling it.
My 2017 Custom 24 SE has a matching headstock. Love the guitar.
Great review! And your fingers were flying today.
Hey Phil, thanks for another great video. I think the guitar looks nice. The clean sounds were good. The heavy overdrive sounded good with the bridge pickup, but the best sound was when you used the neck pickup with heavy distortion with the volume dialed back 90%. That was sweet!
Good work Phil! Btw my hoodie came in and I love it!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Not a single issue on these🎸
I’m about to buy one and will definitely be splitting those humbuckers. Thanks
Here after watching Mary Spender’s review of this. Never heard of Zack Meyers and only peripherally aware of Shinedown, but that is an amazingly beautiful instrument. I’d be proud to own one.
I recently bought one... its killer! I like it more than the Gibson Les Paul Standard I had. A keeper for sure!
This top looks awesome. Love satin necks, much easier to play.
😍😍😍H THAT CRUNCH... so impressive! No doubt I would definitely rock that PRS!
Such a beautiful guitar 😍 I can’t wait until I save enough money to eventually afford this beauty! Great review, always detailed and informative!
Just got mine yesterday. This is a fantastic guitar. Looks, feels, plays and sounds like something much more expensive guitar.
Sounds like you've got a light weighted LP with superior tone,I'm getting this guitar soon, enjoy playing mate.👍
Beautiful guitar, but I liked the previous trampas green color a bit more.
