I may just be nuts but I fell for this PRS SE 245 even though I already own a PRS CE 245 US-made version. Today we go over just what makes this guitar one of the best-made PRS SE models you can get.

You're so honest there's no bias in your review, well done mate.
I just got one of these today and all I can say is OMG! I’m IMPRESSED! It came perfectly set up right out of box and all I literally had to do was tune it! You can’t go wrong with this one! Like he said, the necks on these play like butter! Extremely comfortable to play!
I actually asked you once on a Sunday live show wether to get one of those or an Epiphone and you said definitely the PRS. Good to see you follow your own advice. Very good guitar. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.
So you are testing me now?! LOL I am enjoying it immensely!
I bought exactly the same one few months ago. Put Seymor Duncan Alnico 2's in. Sounds better than alot of Gibsons!!
Have the same one too, I've been underwhelmed with the pickups also. So the Seymour Duncans are good?
I've been thinking of doing that..thanks for the post.
nice. i really like how the 245 feels, but the pickups sound "unremarkable"
Bought this one a year ago. You're exactly right about the neck, that's what sold me. Nice guitar for the money.
"I wasn't intending to buy another guitar..." This is what I say to my wife every time. Not sure how I'm going to explain this latest one.
I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem...
1. Wife asks....."How many guitars do you need" Just one more!!! 2.I have too many guitars, NOT EVER SAID BY ANY GUITARIST EVER !!!
@@michaelmoore7986 just ask her how many handbags or pairs of shoes she needs.
@@Ineedahandle75 it's gotten to a point where my wife has just accepted it. Actually just bought me a Les Paul Standard for my birthday. but now with 11 guitars, I'm starting to think I have too many... although a Telecaster or a Gold Top would be nice. Lol
Hi I just bought one a week ago love it great guitar and great video thanks
Really interesting review. Thank you!
I have an older one, with the "SE 245" label instead of the signature. I like that signature! hahaha, but this guitar is so smooth! I like that I'm not banging into the knobs at all, like I am with my other guitar. Thanks for the review!
yeah man I just got a 2011 same and I love it
I'm looking at this guitar right now. In fact it's in my cart. Just doing a little research. Thanks man.
It’s great!
Very informative!
Thanks!
Cool paintings you have on the wall!
Hey I got this guitar but with soap bars, just did a review on it. Your original sc245 has really impressed me and my view on PRS SEs in general
Just picked up a used one the other day. Cleaned it up, restrung and set it up. I am loving it!!!
Great to hear!
I bought the same guitar but in the tobacco sunburst. Love it, even my hard core Gibson Lester friends were impressed. I added Mojo Tone 59 PAF, PRS Locking tuners, Fender strap locks, and changed the knobs to the amber / darker edge so I could read the numbers better.
Rock on!
The exposed maple looks great. I have never been a fan of binding. None of my guitars have binding presently.
I'd been researching the Zach Myers and your review was one of the ones that helped cement the idea.
Life got in the way a bit, but I now have a blue, 2021 model coming my way and I'm really looking forward to getting it.
It worked out well as the delay meant the new model got announced and I like the blue better than the old green - and the limited colours of the older version I can never find.
I think you will love it. Let me know...
I bought one a few months ago (the Trampas Green one). And it plays SO WELL that I'm always trying to find ways to make my 2013 PRS Core SC245 (a $2500+ USA made guitar) have the same feel and playability. These SE's are unreal.
if nothing else, even the lowest model PRS plays so easy and well compared to other brands. It's just a pleasure to play.
I bought this one a couple of years ago and love it...I would recommend changing the pickups and nut ( I know..another 200$, but I found the stock pups a bit boxy), but otherwise everything else is perfect. My hummer go-to when not playing my Tele. Excellent review.
Could you recommed some pickups alternative , thanks
Or maybe learn to properly set and EQ your gear instead of ditching a perfectly good set of pups
great video, really helped a lot. thanks, greetings from turkey.
Glad to hear that!
I know I’m late to the party. Bought one recently, as it is just an epic piece for its price point. However, coming back to something you said about coil splitting. On investigation, I’ve noticed mine is actually wired to have coil splits if needed or wanted. Not my cup of tea to split, but was impressed by the wiring.
Great looking guitar Tony!
I love it.
I especially like the zebra pickips,
You aren't going to swap them I Hope? 😁😉
Ummmm... maybe...
The artwork behind you is beautiful. Can I ask where you purchased it?
Nice guitar! Congratulations and Best Regards!
Many thanks!!
Only problem I have ever had with an SE is the solder job was totally hacked…. Took it to sweetwater, and they said it was almost like a 3 year old soldered the guitar lol. Got a replacement and boom AMAZING GUITAR!
Love the colour .and sounds great to my ear...decent alternative to a epiphone lp..cheers tony
More than a decent alternative, superior IMO.
@@shanewalton8888 I’m planning to buy an epiphone LP modern with Grover tuners do you recommend PRS over the Epiphone LP Modern ?
i bought this SE single cut in 2009, changed the PUs, and its as you say...a great and very playable guitar......you deffo get a lot of "guitar" for your money.
I was lucky to find one of these with P90 pick ups. He's absolutely right they play phenomenally. Mine was made in the korean factory about ten years ago. Hopefully the new ones are of the same quality. I love mine.
They had one like it at guitar center but Indonesian made. I wanted a PRs can’t afford the expensive ones, but the strings were high and the tech adjusted them and still they were high. Couldn’t make the decision. Loved the neck and look. Sounded good. Hoping to get a PRs later that plays better. Maybe a 22 or 24.
P. S. Your guitar looks and sounds great. They can hang with most high end guitar. Great sustain. Love the headstock, with the Paul Teed Smith logo. Great color too. Agree the necks are great.
I just picked up a used 2020 245 SE STD. Not a mark on it. Must've slipped through their inspection though- 14th fret visually high on the treble side and fretting out the high E 12th and 13th. Strings hanging up in nut also. Not what I was hoping for, as I have a 2019 SE Custom 22 Semi, and it's perfect in every way. I'd be curious to have a Korean one to compare it with. Thanks for the vid!
I have this guitar. I got a discount because I bought a demo from Sweetwater. The scratch that made it a demo is so minute that if I didn't point it out, I doubt you would notice. It looks stunning, IMO. I find the pickups to be good sounding through my Blues Jr IV, and through my JHS PG-14 pedal. The neck is beefy, but comfortable to me. Mine is an older one with the non-adjustable bridge, and the intonation is spot-on. This is one of the best guitars overall that I've ever purchased.
Sounds like a great find. Congratulations!
Sounds interesting but what about the non adjustable bridge when you want to lower the string height?? That's the only thing that's holding me back getting one...
@@Chris_OConnor What I mean by non-adjustable is that mine doesn't have the ability to adjust the saddles individually for intonation like the newer model. Mine has a compensated PRS stoptail. String height is adjusted by raising or lowering the stoptail. PRS has used the stoptail since 1991. It works very well.
I just realized that mine does have the fully adjustable bridge with the brass saddles. I don't know why I thought it had the non-adjustable one. I wasn't looking at it when I made the previous comment. Sorry.
I have the same one, only difference is it has the adjustable bridge saddles and it's made in Indonesia. My only gripe is I don't really care for the pickups
(Another) Great video, Tony. I still haven’t been bit by the PRS bug yet-I’ll keep looking though...
You've been doing these videos awhile now And your age is beginning to show
Take care of yourself
And hope there's plenty more videos in the future.
Please let us know where you got the five piece guitar wall art. Thanks!
Nice.. I have that same guitar
Great video, I have zach myers se and it's great 👍
Same here. Yes it is a great guitar!
There was a PRS double cut lefty at my local pawn shop, but some idiot switched it to a right and drilled a big fat hole in it. It still sold soon for $400.
Yikes!!
This is indeed an older model. The newest models have the white binding on the body and neck, as well as the adjustable saddle bridge. I just got mine a couple days ago and it is a beautiful guitar. Zero to complain about. The only upgrades I am doing are the lampshade knobs, other than that it's perfect right out of the box.
The ones with white bindings are the standard version, all mahogany, no maple cap. The only difference with the new ones are a bridge with movable saddle.
Are the "new" models then from 2021? I want to buy one but I just want to make sure to get one of the new ones, especially because I want to have the possibility to lower the string height
I bought the exact same guitar twice last year. lol (my Steinberger)
PRS Se's are better with some upgraged parts, the tuner are infamous for loosing tune, and PRS pickups are similar to Harley Benton's i.e better if upgraded.
As Tony said, the neck makes the guitar, all the other parts can be changed if you want to.
Thanks for a great review Tony.
Thanks for watching Allan!
Great video! I'm looking for a Baritone, any review on the 277 ?
Not yet!
Tony... I’ve had an S2 McCarty 594 double-cut for about a month now and I love it...it does everything I want a guitar to do !!!!
Another great guitar!
The guitar is made at their own factory that is outfitted with the same equipment used at their U.S. factory. Key staff have all been trained at the U.S, facilities.
@@richardiii76 Yup. The factory is owned and operated by Wildwood but is designed by PRS and has PRS trained staff. It's the same set up as PRS have used elsewhere.
This model is made in Korea and not Indonesia
No doubt I was referring to the model in general and at present. I have a cherry sunburst one myself it was handpicked to put in glass case as you entered the PRS booth at NAMM in 2017. You can go over it with a magnifying glass at a mm at a time and it is flawless. I expect a killer set up was done on it in the States.
Tony , do you still have your Zac Myers or this one ?
@@addictedtogear is there some difference, i planed by 254 standard Indonesia made, i already have grover tuners and SD pearly gates to put in it.?..?
I was watching your video and getting very jealous. Weird as it may seem, while I was watching the video, my buddy who is also a complete gearhead, called me to tell me he was buying another Tom Anderson and was going to alleviate himself of his PRS Core SC-245. The rest as they say is history. Tell you more about it Sunday. Must add, he made me an offer that I just couldn't refuse.
The SC245 is a great guitar. One of my favourites! I hope you got it!
@@addictedtogear It's mine for the asking. Just want to check out the neck. It might be the wide fat and I like the pattern regular and pattern thin profiles.
I've already bought two guitars this month and now my wife is mad. (she actually only knows about one of them so far....)
LOL you don’t need that kind of negativity in your life!
Good luck when she finds out about the other one 😆
if buying a couple of guitars is the worst thing you do, tell her she is lucky being married to you
I cant decide between this and the Wolfgang standard
About to throw some Cream T Whiskerbuckers in this puppy.
I love the looks...the neck however is just too wide. I've never been comfortable with the PRS neck.
What are you comparing it too?
My guitars
My collection
I don’t know why but a got it
My American made
I don’t know what they are using but I got this
Improve
Etc
Omg
Where is this guitar made in?
I’ve looked everywhere for any info on a CE 245. I have a CE and would love to find a CE 245. Any info?
I doubt they would make this in CE as they are bolt-ons and Les Paul type guitars have always had a glued-in neck. I think he misspoke and meant he has a core model 245. They don't make those new anymore either, but I always see some on Reverb used. They've been replaced with the McCarty 594 singlecut. There is no CE model, but there is an S2 model McCarty 594 in the $1700 price range.
I went ahead and got the SE 245 in charcoal burst because the build quality of the SE is on par with the S2 McCarty 594 even with the switch from the Korean factory to the Indonesian one. Best value out there right now in my opinion.
Isn't CE a bolt on neck?
Yeah, the necks are key to any guitar.
My Charcoal 245 SE bridge IS Adjustable!
You probably have the more recent version than I
Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates set for these guitars. Trust me. You're welcome 😃
Would have to do additional research lol read the back of the headstock
I have always liked everything about PRS's except the necks. Just can't jive with them. I wish I could!
The 245’s are very different than the other models. Which model did you try?
I was just about to buy this (245)
and then;
NECK; WIDE / FAT
Pass. The 'Fat' part is the dealbreaker
for me, sounds like baseball bat, I realize
that's perfect for a lot of players, just not
right for me. I prefer a 1 5/8 nut and something
similar to a thin 'Wizard' neck, I've never
played a neck that was too thin for my taste.
It is really not that wide
Actually, aren't the CE models all bolt on? Mine is.
You are correct. I must have had a brain fart during the recording of the video because I kept on referring to my SC-245 as a CE-245...
Can’t wait to see it with those nickel covers on the new pickups you’re putting in
Will be posting an update soon!
@@addictedtogear Where is the brunetti pleximan review/playthrough?
Do the Korean made ones seem to be superior to the Indonesian, or about the same?
I think they are close. Too close to tell really.
@@addictedtogear thanks, how does it compare to the CE? I just ordered an SE 245 that's been made in the Cor-Tek factory. Can't wait to get it.
* Oh I watched the comparison video now :-)
Visually, the top is stunning. However I really wish PRS would lose the birds. At least make them smaller. Too gaudy IMO.
It's brand new?
It’s used but mint!
How much did it cost you , and how much are they new ?
Landon Bailey sent me
Thank him for me!
I can't decide if I want a PRS or not. If I get one, it would have a trem and no bloody birds.
Good luck with that champ.
Good luck with that champ.
If PRS did the 245 in a thin neck, I'd be all over them. The pattern neck is just too chunky for me.
They're so fat. I dunno how people play them. Coming from an ibanez neck it's just such a shellshock.
Es mejor que una Yamaha pacífica 120 ?
I would say it is equally as good.
Tonepros ll bridge and PRS locking tuners make a huge difference in tone . That OEM bridge is garbage and robbing the tone rite out of that guiar
I'll have to investigate that
I don’t think that guitar is made in Korea?!?
Yes it is.
Indonesia peeerth
Why buy this guitar and change pickups ? Instead buy an active pickup guitar. Cause whatever passive pups you have, it won’t make a massive difference.
Make a car body is mahogany… Do your homework
